Gosh. There is no differences in tastes. This doesn't come down to someone's opinion vs someone else's opinion. A song, at it's core is nothing more than mathematics. The Dance Electric doesn't exist in our existential belief systems. The song was defined by the recording released 25+ years ago. Prince can't be bothered to rehearse the band and play the song properly, so you get this hodge-podge of a recording, that sort of resembles the track, but really is just a whole lot of noise. Many of us became fans of Prince, because at one time, he was known to work hard on maintaining the integrety of his music, regardless of personnel turnovers within the band. Over the last 3-5 years it's become obvious he doesn't do that anymore. I want better than that from him and I won't blindly cheer his lazy azz bullshit.

So, not only do some on here not know the difference between opinions and facts, but they also don't understand the concept of a warm-up rehearsal jam.... unbelievable! Don't hate your neighbors. Hate the media that tells you to hate your neighbors.

How does one measure 'decent' in this context?
Surely this definition would have to go both ways; ie. anyone who only EVER has nice and decent (?) things to say must be a kiss-ass (kool aid drinker, whatever).
I know a lot of people would go along with that, but I disagree.
I feel people should be able to share whatever fraction of thoughts they have, regardless of how the balance of positive/negative is skewed, without constantly being insulted or having their motives questioned.
I'm more of an 'up' person and I do believe that a community can potentially be lifted through positivity and dragged down by negativity, but I wouldn't want to inflict that belief on a group by condemning those who have a more critical outlook.
In fact, the majority of negativity on sites like this one tends to be generated when the supposed 'trolls' and 'haters' start getting hauled over the coals - if we just let them vent and left them alone (or engaged in a genuine discussion about the track), a lot of these threads would be a lot more civilised.
A troll is someone who is deliberately posting something (positive, negative, whatever) simply to get a rise out of people - in fact, often a troll doesn't even believe what they are saying.
Presumably if Prince suddenly released a bundle of never-before-heard outakes from 1986 in lossless quality, the so-called 'trolls' of this thread would all of a sudden have lots of "nice and decent" things to say, meaning they're not really trolls - they just know what they like. And apparently, it's not this.
Oh, and for the record, I'm pro-whistle

Nice try, but despite what they have said, this is an official release meant to promote the tour. This IS the version they will play live, warts and all. How do I know? Because they took this same approach during the Welcome 2 America tour: jacking up tune after tune, with clearly only minimal rehersal and a mild idea of where they were going with it. But even a warm up rehearsal jam, it would be like, the very FIRST thing you do is get everybody the lyrics, correct sounds and chord changes. Aren't these guys pros? I don't get it. I can't think of any other professional band that is this comical. Even The Truth, playing cover tunes for basicly nothing at the local bar, can get the synth sounds correct.

Your post is well-written but it's still nothing more than your opinion. Some people who listened to the track found themselves grooving to it. Are they supposed to pretend to not like it because you personally don't here elements of the song that you fell in love with 25 years ago? Give me a break. and this is coming from someone like me who does not find anything special about this track either. You don't have to blindly cheer anything about Prince. I just think its silly to assume that whoever likes the rehearsal is star struck. They can equally assume you're one of those trapped in the past as usual.

I'm not telling anyone what to like or dislike. I just wish more Prince fans were truly into the music and not so much the image/persona.

its a funky jam session, Funkenberry's article states rehersed "jam" of the cut. don't get why some are ignoring that.

Life is too short for this nonsense. Like it or not, who gives a flip. Surely there's more important things to do in life than rant/rave about a third tier Prince song. In the words of William Shatner "get a life" "So fierce U look 2night, the brightest star pales 2 Ur sex..."

Always thought it quite a depressing and old track. Except when it was new and it was the 80s. I was only saying on another thread how Lovesexy never sounds old. Well this track makes me want to go and buy a Flock of Seagulls wig.
Nice to hear him releasing something that people like though. Some new material next though please? Nothing bad either! PS: It stops being an 80s track by the end mind you. Quite funky and I'd be dancing my socks off if I was at the gig Lucky bastards.[Edited 4/18/12 1:35am]

And let's hope he never forgets how much our money has given him the life he has lived. It's hard to let go of something that was once so life-dominating. And a person's youth is a special memory. Music plays a bigger part during that period. Crap songs can become great ones as the years increase. Not sure how old you are Spooky but nobody escapes it. We can fight it, ignore it, forget it, but it is always there, just below the surface.
Prince does not have the same impact on me as he once did. That's understandable. Nobody does. I'm not twenty anymore. I'm harder to please, more complex, have deeper desires. I'm also lucky enough not to be lonely or lost. Music takes second stage when your life's like that.

The only time in my life when I am forced to remain on topic during a conversation is during a meeting at work or on similar affairs. Surely a forum is not now a meeting or intellectual scientific discussion? I thought the Org was more than that? Should our conversations remain sterile with no room for banter, adlib and general human behaviour?
It will be a sad day when friendships cannot be formed over the one place where communication, information, openess, honesty and freedom was the sole intent.

Err... because that is not what it is. It is an intentional release to promote the tour. What are the first words you hear on the track? Prince saying "Don't come to the concert". Btw, do you think he means for no one to come to the show, because afterall that is what he states in the song? Of course not, it's just talk. But this "rehearsal" shows how far Prince's standards have fallen. Prince used to be the cat that told Jesse Johnson not to touch his wah-wah pedal. Even in rehearsal. Why? Because you practice the way you play. Prince used to drop fines on people for one bad note. He would have fired somebody for far less than some of the things these cats are playing. There is at least 4 NOT funky pieces of schlock playing during this official release of "rehearsal". Not a good sign, imo. [Edited 4/18/12 2:58am]

- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Right, fuck it. I'm banning myself. This is it Org, I'm off! Please don't bother checking my username to see if I mean it because it won't be there. Unless I forget and start posting again whilst completely ignoring the fact that I'd banned myself. Which never happens. You're all a bunch of freedom haters. I even lied when I used emoticons. I wasn't really smiling. Or laughing. Or being sarcastic. Or fucking a banana for that matter. Yep this is it, you'll be sorry. You mark my words. I'm off to the Take That (and Party) forum. They've no idea what a fucking sycophant is so I'll be a breath of fresh air.
PS: If I don't post again it means I've died whilst going out today. Which will be a right downer as it'll mean the last Prince song I played was from Chaos and Disorder. Ain't that a bitch.
