It's not necessarily Andy Allo. Could be someone else, could be overdubs by Prince, could be the band playing live over another guitar track...

after listening again, my guess is it's Andy Allo.

lol. yea i really think he's been drilling her these past few months to at least play chicken grease & other small rhythm parts.

it's funky whoever the band is.

I like it. Fcuz, it only makes me yearn even more for an official prince on vocals

version of the studio track (the original studiotrack, not a re-recording).

But it's nice to see him actually releasing stuff again. It's a little free bonus sort

of thing. And that's nice.

He's been dustsing off many outtakes the last few years, mainly for live shows,

so what gives? Why his sudden interest in all this 'old' stuff?

It feels like one gigantic prick tease tho. Because in the end, we never get these

songs that he knows we want. It's just a live chant or a one off performance or

a radically reworked new version.

Tell me a song we wanted that we didn't get by whatever means available. Even before the internet the fans were consuming bootlegs and live recordings like there was no tomorrow. Now we don't even have to get out of bed to find the latest bootleg release. Everything is a cursor click away. Prince fans are quite possibly the most spoiled on earth because his recorded output of material both released and unreleased is massive and then you add in protege/side projects and live shows, it's beyond belief.

When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

Those are NOT MPLS synths. Prince's synth sounds used to have balls, not this airy-fairy new age crap you can hear on this bland funk-by-numbers "jam".

Hey Bart. He's playing The Fucking Dance Electric. take a breath and try to enjoy a moment once in awhile.

The jam sounds good, but hardly any vocals. By the time they get the vocals on there, it's gonna be five minutes of Shelby shouting "Put Your Hands Up." Ok, I hope not, but I could barely hear Prince singing at all, if he was. Kind of like Mountains live...just the girls with Prince adding a tiny hiss hear and there.

This.

It's just the Dance Electric intro which then becomes a NPG jam.

Sure it sound good and tight, but I wouldnt want to hear it in one of his shows. This is more Aftershow material.

I hate seeing Prince shows overtaken by NPG members.

Quick and dirty cover for itunes etc:

Edited for original terrible spelling, and an alt:

Speaking of spelling (or maybe that's what you meant), I noticed that "Jam The DancElectric" seems deliberate as the title of the track, in that it's in the heading of Doc F's post, as well as in the blog tags (in addition to "The Dance Electric"). Presumably there's a desire to make a distinction between the two.

Regardless, cool cover art options!

Actual songs instead of a sampled beat from a 30 year old track, "enhanced" by simplistic new age-like synths andf some chants, followed by an interminable by-the-numbers "funk jam" that could just as easily have been tacked on to any other uptempo song.

I'll give you a clue: go listen to the soundboards from the 1980s that have been freed in the past couple of months. That guy is Prince. The guy on this rehearsal recording? A man who's stopped making an effort ages ago. Why should he, when everything he does gets hyped to no end anyway.

Sounds super funk ridden to me!!! It's a jam, not meant to be just about power synths?

Synths sound quite fat in the mix to me.

I keep forgetting that people on the Org replace the music they're hearing by shit they make up, to avoid admitting this is yet more of the same sub-par nonsense Prince has been peddling since 1996.

Wanna hear something amazing? Go watch The Weeknd's performace at Coachella. THAT is funk and hip-hop and soul and dance and rock all in one.

Imho, it is not excellent.. but it's ok.

this jamming is not adding much to what we already know.

to me it sounds like Prince is desperate trying to sound like he once did, without a "succes".

I would not want an album w this kind of live rehearsals.

But a free MP3 like this is ok..

I'll give it a repeat listen today - and a few days more -

but, after that I am not gonna listen much to this "jam".

Great musicianship and all. But. It becomes rather boring quickly.

Anyway, this is more of a "commercial" for the tour down there, right?

Good luck in the concerts, to the australians.. !

I would not want an album w this kind of live rehearsals.

Yet to see an album that all fans agree on, why should the next be any different?

eek wowzers, can't believe that a very small handful are complaining. Really not worth comparing it to rehearsals from 83-86 - i've got loads and some of them are as boring as hell [IMHO!]. Here's the deal:

1] it's free

2] it's a rare gem

3] it's funky [regardless of the synths Bart!!]

4] it's JUST A JAM!!, it's not a lead off single, it's not the centre point for a new amazing album , it's just a frickin jam !!.

Compare it to other stuff that has headed our way, Purple & Gold, Rich Friends etc. I love it, i strogly suspect that other musicians on here will also like and RESPECT it.

I want more.

If it was a losless download, you could call it "free", in fact it's a streaming low-quality mp3 - if you saved it, you stole it.
