Songs That Start Off Great & End Badly I could have sworn this was a topic here but it may have been from way back in the 'Quake days...
Prince has done some songs that were slammin' along but were trainwrecked by questionable endings. I'm not counting live versions, extended remixes or extended jams that went on too long; I'm talking about songs that take an unfortunate turn off the cliff. My top two:
Temptation Nice underworld funk jam until the "conversation" at the end; cool the first time you hear it, a little less cool every time after that...
Rock & Roll Is Alive... Serious party jam, hot groove in the middle, smokin' bass breakdown, and then... well... kind of a Las Vegas show tune disaster

I thought the Super Bowl press conference started off killer with Johnny B Goode/Anotherloverholeinyohead, and then ended badly with Get On The Boat "So fierce U look 2night, the brightest star pales 2 Ur sex..."

Beginning Endlessly
Starts off like it's going to be an interesting song, and then just meanders into boring repetition and stupid lyrics.

Love 2 The 9s We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

White Mansion
I love it, but that whole end part ("Check out that ass!"), which may have been fun and fitting in a different song, seem really out of place.

S.E.X i like it till the part where he sings the word "sex" 3 times or so after that, i usually turn it off
Shy you'd think there is going to be a part that changes but it stays the same
can't think of anything else right now Check out my Youtube!

Yeah, that was unfortunate. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Seriously? I love that part! We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

The Continental - It's only listenable when you cut off that whole "sexy" telephone conversation part with Carmen Electra.

R.A.V.E. on the Rave album. Kick ass opening, then the song goes off on some weird Egyptian tangent.
I think I'll write a song that takes that opening and does something with it.

While I found that part humurous at first, it did take away from the replay value of the song.
Fortunately, if you have the song on itunes, there is a very simple way to end the song before that part.
I have mine set to end at 4:19, the original length of the track is 4:28. 4:19 is a very comfortable and natural spot to end the song, if you listen to music on loop a lot (like I do) you'll notice that the 4:19 back to 0:00 transition is seamless.
While it may be considered sacrilege to fuck with how Prince intended the music, this small edit exponentially increases the replay value of the song.
To change the start and end times of your songs in itunes, simply left click on the track and proceed to the "get info" tab.
Then under the track info proceed to the "options" tab.
From there you can select what time you want that particular track to begin or end.
Try it out! It might save the song for you, it did for me.

I never thought of doing that! We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

This is a great idea; thanks for the suggestion, MarquessMarq.
Actually, I'm more eager to edit some of the poorly done album tracks that I've imported from CD (i.e., A Love Bizarre has a snippet of Dear Michaelangelo at the beginning; Anotherloverholenyohead has the last bit of Kiss; and there are other sloppy ones).

Pop Life. As much as i love this song, the ballgame break at the end has always bothered me. Wonder if a version exists without it. And no the extended version is not the same.

While I wouldn't go so far as to say that it ruins the song, I find the phone conversation at the end of Joint to Joint to be several seconds I'd rather spend having root canal surgery.

My Name Is Prince & Daddy Pop Both great tracks with endings ruined by horrible rapping courtesy Tony M The rap at the end of MNIP in particular is really unnecessarily long

The Sun, Moon and Stars
Love it until he starts clucking like a chicken
Now
The screaming is unneccessary
Extralovable (first edition)
The rape discussion/reference is unneccessary IMHO
