I also remember a friend back in the 90´s asked "when is THIS gonna end, what is that??" refering to the second part. It really kills the flow and power of the first part!!!!!

Maybe he should have made 2 songs; The Continental and How U wanna B done..everybody pleased wink

They practically are two songs already, though.

I guess it matters if you're making a mix tape and only want the first part, but otherwise, it just doesn't bother me.

Actually, I much prefer songs with bad endings to songs with bad beginnings, such as The Flow. I can skip an ending, I can't skip the beginning as easily.

Haha, someone who also ff the first part!!! Played the flow often when prince was released..the horns part lol

Pop Life. As much as i love this song, the ballgame break at the end has always bothered me. Wonder if a version exists without it. And no the extended version is not the same.

The 9:00 version from the UK 12" is spectacular and not as "over produced" as the US 12" single. Plus it doesn't have the "ball game" part in it.

Thanks for posting this information. I don't have the album and the first time I heard the "ballgame break" was on The Hits & B-Sides. I've always heard the extended and edited versions on YouTube.

'Can't stop this feeling I got' has one of the best intros then the actual song is a bit limp to me. It sounded dated to me when I heard it as kid. Still can't get into the song at all

I wouldn't say they "end badly", but those extended sections of "When Doves Cry" and "If I Was Your Girlfriend" are a bit unnecessary. I have nothing against them, but the actual songs are so strong that the last minute or two of both feel a bit directionless.

I always have to laugh when I hear WDC played in a mall somewhere and hear Prince screaming his ass off though. It always sticks out from the rest of the "classic stuff" they have on their playlists. lol

Go sit in the corner and think about what you said. And don't come out until I say you can. hmph!

lol

for real though

I probably would like the second half more if I hadn't heard the intro first.

I do appreciate the idea that the begining is devolved in sound, or attitude, or in some other aspect I can't put a finger on...then springs out of some muck and gloo into the sky like life spring out if the primordial ooze.....

I get that and appreciate that....but ghamilla was enuff schmaltz for me for a good bit.

No waaayyy!!! I think "Can't Stop..." is a great track! The only weak element that lets it down I feel is the drum machine which sounds real tinny & cheap. Had he recorded live drums for it the song would sound even better & have more live energy. Still a great song though, starts great and ends great if a bit early as it fades out just as he tears into a killer lead guitar part

I remember hearing it as a kid thinking. "This must have been a Lovesexy hold over" The song sounded dated then. Maybe had he used some other drums or something. I can't stand the song as is.

Not really a "Prince" song but...one of his protegee acts so not terribly off-topic...

"River Runs Dry", by The Family.

I've always really really loved the beginning of it when it goes slower, but then it speeds up into this bad techno/R&B/new wave shit that I just can't handle cuz it sucks. I've always wished the entire song were like like the first 30 seconds or so.

I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man... Love the solo (one of my favs-especially live!) but once that is over the song goes slow and loses all of it's steam. It picks up briefly at the end but it dies for me after the solo, at 3:50 (on the SOTT version) or so.

The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. (www.amazon.com/gp/product/1538114623/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i0) or www.facebook.com/groups/1...104195943/

You should be caned...

although I don't think I'll get any prizes for saying "The Exodus Has Begun" seems to turn into one grand unnecessary clusterf*ck...

I'm with the "Daddy Pop" camp, as Ice Cube had a residency at Glam Slam around this period (according to MTV Europe reports at the time), Cube and Da Lench Mob should've found Mr. Mosley and jacked him like they did for beats...

EXACTLY how I feel about this song.

Same goes for the Planet Earth title track. Bridge ruins the song. I edited it out and it sounds a hundred times better.
