One reason I was willing to pay that price is that I expect it will only continue to go up in value. They are selling *fakes* on Amazon Marketplace for more than $100 each. The guy selling the 1987 longbox CD on eBay right now may get thousands of dollars for it, but he might have gotten even more if he had sold it before the 1994 reissue. I wish I had a real crystal ball (not the one that comes in a plastic petri dish) to see what records or CDs you can buy cheaply today that will be worth big bucks in the future. Not so much because I'd want to sell them, but because I'd hate to pass on something now and later find that it's prohibitively expensive.

Just 5 minutes ago I thought (inspired by this thread) that my family might just throw away things like my Apollonia 6 CD and tons of stuff like that when I die . I have friends who should know that certain things are worth a lot, I guess I should tell my family they should ask them then .

As an investor, I guess I should be rooting against a remastered version now, because I think the issue of a remastered version would reduce demand for the original (even though it would still be a unique item). But as a fan I do hope we get a remastered version of that CD and the other associated artist CDs (not to mention Prince's own stuff). But I'm betting that there will be no remastered version, or that, if there is one, the sound quality will be inferior. I hope I'm wrong.

I have no idea how many were pressed. I'll bet there are a few sitting in peoples collections over the world (especially Japan) who have no idea of it's value.

As for remasters, I think we will be very lucky to get Prince albums remastered, never mind associated artists platters.

You never know though, maybe one day.

The ironic thing is that you can get the vinyl record for $5 or less, and it probably sounds better than the CD. Same is true of most of the Associated Artist albums.

I found Jill Jones on vinyl (in great condition) at a local wrecka stow. I could have ripped it, myself - but just went online and found a lossless torrent (which was undoubtedly taken from the vinyl) for my iPod. Best of both worlds.

Having owned both the CDs and vinyl copies of the associated albums, I think the vinyl editions do sound better. Record labels hadn't yet perfected CD audio in the 80s sadly.

I don't know. If the sovereign debt crisis takes down the global economy, your associated artist CDs could be a hedge against inflation. But if The Digital Gardener is right, the Apollonia 6 bubble could be about to burst, in which case you should sell immediately. In any case, the next person who sells their copy should thank me for setting a new eBay price record.

I had it back when it was released and lent it to someone and never got it back. In recent years, I got a copy for 50 cents at a thrift store and it was still sealed and had never been opened.

Does no one have/had the "My Name Was Prince" Japanese promo? It was released to promote The Hits/The B-Sides and is worth several hundred £/$/whatever.

Eil had one for an age, they kept reducing the price gradually, but it still sold for several hundred pounds.

As you can see, the tracklist is nothing special at all, but this has to be one of the most collectable and valuable cd's out there.

We should start a derivatives market in Prince and associated artists CDs. For example, I could (hypothetically) promise to buy both of your copies in 2022 for the price of $1,000. If it keeps going up in value, I'll come out really well from the deal, but if the Cherry Red remaster comes out in the meantime, you'll win the bet.
