Just heard these new(ish) outtake snippets - Blown away! 1. Cosmic day
2. Everybody want what they don't got
3. Hard to get ('81 version)
4. Adonis and Bathsheba
5. Big house
6. Traffic jam
7. Go
They are all FREAKIN' AMAZING...definately need a release. It's like being a kid in a candy store to hear these for the first time and to realise there are even more classic songs hidden in the vault on top of the hundreds of unreleased songs I've heard already....
Hard to get '81 and Everybody Want what they don't got especially blew me away.....!

Yeah those have been circulating for a while now. You have good taste as Hard To Get and Everybody Want What They Don't Got are also my favorite two. __________________________________________________

I have a thing for "Adonis & Bathsheba". From what I understand, Susan Rogers didn't fancy it too much. "Cosmic Day" reminds me of the big haired arena rock records. I always think, if Prince wanted to sell out and get some of that Bon Jovi money, "Cosmic Day" would be that track. I like that one too. "Everybody Want What They Don't Got" sounds like a Billy Joel track. |

Don't know if you know the story behind these clips since you only just heard them, but they come from a Paisley Park cassette compilation of songs that Prince was willing to offer various other artists that had expressed interest in working with him.
There's speculation "Cosmic Day" may have been for Madonna.
And yeah, the clips are excellent. Would love for full versions to leak. |

Mmmm...just listened. If anything, they show the extent to which he's surpassed (musically) where he was in the '80s. I found most of it painfully amateurish, with splashes of the brilliance to come. "Hard to Get' was pretty solid. [Edited 9/24/11 0:20am] When you don't have a case, yell RACE! |

Hmm...now was this Go the same as the rehearsal version? To me this sounds like a studio version, because back in 2000 I came across a full version of Go that sounded similar but W&L were slightly out of tune..making me think that was a rehearsal....I loved it though. |

Thanks, yes I had heard that but they sound almost too good to be from a casette don't u think?
It would be great to hear full versions, wish he did release these on CB II as was planned about 10m years ago!
Still more to look forward to later i think. |

They are definitely from a cassette but they may have been cleaned up a bit with some pro audio plugins (ie to remove tape hiss etc) |

I think if you did take some new stuff, made it sound bootleg quality, and then edited it down to a snippet and floated them around, it would sound exactly as tantalizing if not more so. |

I'm not convinced, you can hear the raw power from those songs regardless of the sound quality...the new ones just don't have that pace and energy and special melodies displayed. |

What would you think if you found out that a few of the new tracks were just old songs he pulled out and changed lyrics to and remixed to update them? |

^ Not sure....Details from the DL I have:
PREVIOUSLY UNCIRCULATED PRINCE OUTTAKES 1. Cosmic day2. Everybody want what they don't got3. Hard to get ('81 version)4. Adonis and Bathsheba5. Big house6. Traffic jam7. Go lineage: ? > FLAC These songs were all previously uncirculating among the vast majority of collectors (to the best of my knowledge anyway). The only exception is "Go", though the sound quality here is to my mind superior to that previously available. Unfortunately all tracks are "snippets" of just over one minute in length, but given the rarity of the material it's nice to have even abridged versions. Enjoy!

Indeed yes.
Those snippets are not the only thing that Eye plundered for that release, as you are probably already aware.

Yeah but I like the mish mash!
Hard To Get '81 needs to be released in the form it is, no updating needed as well as Everybody Want What They Don't Got. __________________________________________________

Spot on. I would give my house to see this place if Sticky Like Glue was put out as an outtake from 84-86 with the quality treatment as you said....i truly would. This Post is produced, arranged, composed and performed by WetDream |

Yep, Sticky Like Glue is a great example. Killer catchy melody and funky tune. And completely minimal. |
