Incense & Candles was probably one of my least favorites from that album... But I never thought it was bad or anything.

Change it one more time..

I LIKE it! I find it a little weird though lol

why is he looking for the milky way? wacky

why is she sitting on her dinners? giggle

why DOESN'T he want her to take off her clothes if he's seducing her? confuse

"...the price of Prince's candle"? he being naughty? eek

It's OK but no masterpiece....it'd have been better without the crappy autotune vocal effects...

I second that smile Always hated that Prince used autotune on some tracks...

This is one of the skippers on the album for me, this is one of the reasons i like Musicology more. Musicology has 2 skippers, Pimp and Life o the Party, 3121 has this, Love, The Dance, The Word which i do not like.

cool

She Believed in Fairytales and Princes, He Believed the voices coming from his stereo

I like both versions of "The Dance" but the 3121 version gets the edge due to the screams at the end. Anytime he screams it is a good thing.

You picked 3 of the best tracks from the album.

The only ones for me that should go are Satisfied and blab and maybe get on the boat.

The purple fake drama on this one is a joke. Totally overproduced. The NPGMC version would get my vote, if I had to choose. It's the honest one.

It's a GREAT song but far from being the 'When 2 R In Love' of the 00's. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Haha

I do remember playing this song in repeat for the longest! It has an addictive beat, and a sexy groove. His rap is not bad here either, BUT...It is weak compared to many of the other songs he released in the '00's' SUCH AS:

FUTURE BABY MAMA (YEP! I SURE NUFF SAID IT! This is the JAM!)

MELLOW (It took me a while to realize, but I dig this!

"Learn the rhythm & play, the only note you want me to...I'm a good learner, but once I understand, I'll stand under you, and let you show me, how you want your man to be. If you desire, I'll shed my attire, ANYTHING..to get you WET! eek SHOWER MY FLOWER..SO much to do, and little time, find me in the mellow of my mind" (I MEAN SERIOUSLY? eek STUDY that lyric! It's just GENIUS! Haha

ONCE AND FOR ALL...

WHEN EYE LAY MY HANDS ON U (How can we forget this sexy track..I mean it generally murders Incense and Candles.

There! Now those are some songs that really show his skill in the 00's! smile

It's Button Therapy, Baby!

I have never understood why so many orgers dislike this song. Then again I like autotune when not overdone. I also like satisfied. Its so princeccentric.

I prefer the NPGMC version as well. It's very understated and suited to the song. The 3121 version is drowning in layers of staged melodrama from the latin jazz tinges and orchestra to the screaming. It's fine, but I find it completely insincere compared to the original release.

I don't usually mind it, but in this case, where we have an A/B comparison, released only 2 years apart, I prefer, for this song in particular, the more understated of the two. He needed a track like what "The Dance" turned into for 3121 for that position on the album, and so he re-worked it. It just feels like he needed that kind of track, so he dressed up something to fit that mold and it doesn't work organically.

It's not really all that different than the endless number of posts around here pissing and moaning about how he ruined Extraloveable. Except I'm just not going on and on and on about it in every thread in the forum.

And you're right, I don't enjoy music the way I used to. I'm older, more experienced, been exposed to more styles and life experiences that have changed the way I listen to and evaluate music compared to when I was 15. Then again, when I was 15 I felt like "3 Chains O' Gold" was an overblown steaming pile of nonsense cashing in on the resurgence in popularity of "Bohemian Rhapsody" and I still do at 35.

Sure, it sounds like Queen but I don't think it is "cashing in" on anything. The song was far from popular and never released as a single. Did the album move more units because it had a song that was inspired by Queen? Seems unlikely. Besides, it is an awesome song!

the song mixes the old sexual themes of the Prince we know and love with an excellent 00s production, modern hip-hop, funk, and dance

it IS a masterpiece...

And I still say that it is annoying. razz I never cared for "Incense and Candles" and "Love." For me they completely derail the momentum that the first four songs built up.

I do rather like the acoustic version of "Love" but it is quite different than the album version.

Black Sweat is the cocky jam in the club, I&C is the sex during that same night, and Love the relationship gone wrong which should have been just a one night stand

perfect trilogy
