Have you ever felt bad for Prince?

Do you feel bad because he's ridiculed most of the time about his music..which is all he lives for?

Do you ever get sad because he's really talented but no one outside of prince fans notice him or give him recognition he deserves?

(my friends don't even know who he is eek )

Do you feel bad that he doesn't have a family?

or anything else?

Clarifying

Im not saying these are facts but just perceptions.

I doubt very many people on this site do, based on all the nastiness they send his way.. but I do hate that his music doesn't get the attention it deserves, but I don't really feel bad for Prince because most of his problems, including his music not getting enough attention, is his own fault.

Let me first say that I am not one of those that hate on Prince. I am also not one that is caught in the clouds and don't think he can do any wrong.

That said, generally, I do not feel bad for Prince. Regarding his career, I think Prince is quite proud of his career. He is known as a musical genius by fans and non-fans alike, he was inducted into the RRHOF as soon as he was eligible and he still draws ridiculously huge crowds all over this world.

Regarding his personal life, I don't feel any worse for him than I do for any other human being navigating through the challenges of family, love and life. We can never assume that he wants what we want out of his personal relationships. He may be quite content with where he is in his personal life. If he is not content, then I pray he finds contentment just as I pray that we all do.

How would someone who is "ridiculed most of the time about his music" be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? confuse

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

He isn't ridiculed for his music where I am, he is heralded. He's incredibly talented, and a musical genius. He's attractive, still has sex appeal even at the age of 50 plus. He's famous worldwide. He's wealthy. This man can go anywhere he likes, do whatever he chooses to do for the most part. If he really wanted a family he could have that. No, I don't feel sorry for him at all. On the other hand, he may feel sorry for some who don't have it like he does.

edited: I do feel sorry for the loss of his baby. How sad.

Yes I do. His music has brought so much joy to many, but every move he makes is scrutinized. He is by far the most talented musician on the planet, but only his fans really know this. He experienced the death of his child which no one should experience-its not supposed to happen like that. When he tries to bring dignity to being in his 50's and not cursing, etc. And giving his life to God he gets ridiculed for that too. Yes he had made mistakes, done some messed up stuff, but we all have.

nope just our money.

(i was thinking the other day... how many of his albums mention money? Nearly all the WB albums (or their b-sides). for a man that don't care about money he sure sings about it a lot. )

1) No, because he's not ridiculed. Most think he is a legend.

2) No, because he gets a lot of attention from millions. Look up attendance at his 2011 concerts.

3) Maybe, but then again I do not know what is going on in his personal life. Married to his music?

4) I felt sympathy and sadness around the time I read about the loss of the baby, Boy Gregory.

Prince is forward thinking. He has a fabulous life. He lives in the present.

I rather doubt that, at this point in his life, he cares what high schoolers think.

Late 1996-1997 was Prince's happy peek. And slowly it all went away. Poor Prince. I'm fee so sorry about the baby. Expecially considering he cared so much about it he put the heart beat of the baby in Sex In The Summer. Poor Prince

It's tough to feel bad for a multimillionaire who has sex with lots of beautiful women...I mean in general.

But of course I felt bad for him when I heard his parents died and when his baby son died and when he was having those hip problems. He has given us a lot of beautiful music and poured his heart out in his music and in his live performances. I love him for that and feel bad when truly bad things happen to himn.

I can't believe it when people ridicule Prince for his religious beliefs. Let him believe what he wants. Why does religion bother people so much? Some would say: we only can't accept him being an intolerant Witness. But there are many fans who simply don't like Prince being religious at all.

I'm glad if religion is bringing him some comfort and peace. He deserves it. And it brings a depth to his music that I appreciate.

I'm a casual fan, so I don't really have an emotional attachment though I don't remember a time when I didn't know of him. But awhile back I was a little defensive when someone around my age wasn't getting him and another time when a coworker said he's not original..... at least give the guy credit for doing something outside the mold! I feel sad people miss out on great music, his included cause his performing is more underrated than I thought and I know I have to see him before he retires. Also, I'm annoyed he doesn't let his work be on youtube, or he would be getting attention from more people who need to see him.

Hardcore fans sometimes don't have an emotional attachment either. I guess it all depends on one's sensitivities. When an artist's music has been an inportant part of my life and has helped me get through difficult times, I do care about him/her as a person. That's why I care about Prince.

I get really sensitive over two of my other favourite artists of all time, especially one of them, so I can certainly empathize with you on that smile I love a lot of Prince's music though I don't own all of it or know every single song though I'm sure I will catch up someday, but feel like he's one of the first artists I knew, so he'll always have my back in one way or another, and he's definitely inspired me too smile

vitriol

I can only think of 3 things that make me feel bad:

-the loss of his son.

-the Jehovah embracing (even if he's only an hypocrite).

-his chosen lifestyle, in his ivory tower, with no real contact with the real world. Hence the poor music he's been releasing since 2004.
