Prince and Warrant? Seriously?!! I don't know if I'm reading this right, but it's on the biography at Jani Lane's official website - see link: http://www.janilane.net/about/
In his official bio Jani says that Prince gave Warrant $7000 to produce a video because he was considering them as a new Paisley Park act. Prince saw the video and passed on it because "the singer can't dance" but said the band could use it to get another deal...
If you're like me, you read this and go....
No disrespect to Jani (I know he died yesterday, sad, may he RIP) but is he for real? Or maybe I'm not reading it properly. If I am and this is true, how come noone knew about this before? Stand at the crossroads, and look, and ask for the ancient paths...(Jeremiah 6:16) www.ancientfaithradio.com

This is the saddest thing ever. When I grew up I was more like a hard rock fan. It was a strange mix but I had only posters of all the hair metal bands on the wall, except some Prince Posters. Since the SOTT Movie I am a huge Prince fan. Anyway, Warrant was always one of my favourite bands, still listen to their records and always loved Jani Lanes Songwriting abilities! I even own his Solo record. So it is strange, that I read in a Prince Forum about the death of one of my heroes!
I definately see why Prince considered to sign the band. I see the the perfect craftmanship in so many Songs Jani wrote. Listen to Songs like "I saw red" or "Stronger now". Ignore their image, their haircuts and the 80s hard rock production and you´ll see the amazing talent Jani was.
I am definately in shock. Jani will always be one of my all time heroes!

whoa...Jani Lane DIED??!! I had no idea!
I used to go to MetalSludge.com years ago, and they never ceased to rail on the guy. It was sad. And kind of hateful on the part of the hair metal crowd, a mean spirited group if there ever was one.
Rest In Peace, Jani | |

Maybe he was after some of that 'Duran Duran money'. I dunno, it's seems out there, but this is post-G'n'R, so maybe Prince was looking from that angle and thinking he'd like a piece of the pie for the label? | |

I had no idea that went down!
Prince sure has some strange ties to two recently deceased artists, the other being Amy Winehouse.
