Thanks to Javi's hard work, the Condorcet polling I started a while back has continued, and we're now about halfway through the officially released Prince albums. (For the latest poll, click here: http://prince.org/msg/7/364184.) The goal is to compile the winners into a final poll to determine the top 25 Prince songs of all time. As part of this project, I started a thread to solicit nominations for songs written or cowritten by Prince but never officially released on his albums or U.S. singles. That thread (which has now expired) is here:

The idea is that, since some of Prince's best songs were either never released or given to other artists, we should try to figure out which of those songs might plausibly make the top 25. Looking back at the original thread, I see that these songs were nominated:

It is, another Prince verse and chorus as well as a verse from Windy and Lisa, and it clocks in at 14 minutes!

"Computer Blue" made the top 4 in the Purple Rain poll, ahead of "I Would Die 4 U" which ranked #12 in the singles poll. So the song ought to be in the poll of Prince's greatest songs one way or the other. I think the greatest songs poll should only list each song once, since so many live, extended, alternate, and remixed versions exist of his most popular songs. After the greatest songs poll is conducted, we could do separate polls on the best version of each song for those who are familiar with all the different versions.

The extended version not being included on the album is almost criminal. By far one of his greatest extended songs. take the passion and the power of the released version, inject it with steroids and light a fuse on it. would have been the best song on the album

I wonder if "Tick, Tick, Bang" should be added to this list? The 1990 version came in at #9 in the Graffiti Bridge poll, not a great showing. But I like the original Controversy outtake a lot better.

I also prefer the original version, but, in my opinion, the difference between the original and the released version is bigger in other cases, such as We Can Funk and Old Friends 4 Sale.

Is this topic (or the one it's linked to) supposed to include fan releases like Chocolate Invasion and Slaughterhouse? Not sure I've seen any song nominations from these. Also, what about N.E.W.S., One Night Alone, C-Note and Rave In2? I certainly didn't see these in the official album poll.

Do I think anything in this thread will end up in Prince's top 25? Nope. Will it be fun to rank his better fan releases and outtakes and see where they end up? Yup.

It's difficult that fan releases, outtakes and related artist's songs will make the to 25, but who knows? Many people love (just some examples) The Family tunes, or outtakes like Moonbeam Levels, All My Dreams and Old Friends 4 Sale, which are classics between fans. Maybe we'll see some surprise! Even if they don't reach the top 25, it'd be interesting to see if they are near.
