Early headphones were crap, and I loved that raw real feel you had a boom box (Well actually a borrowed tape radio).

To be honest, I'd say Stevie Wonder. That's all I can think of NOW. Michael may be my favourite artist, but I will definitely say that Prince is way more well-rounded than he ever was.

Lol. I would have to concur on the Stevie Wonder being competition talent wise as well. I think I never included MJJ because they were going after two different types of audiences in reality. Prince was always more adult than anything intended for teens. More rebelious and on edge that Jackson but Wonder would put a lot of imagery in his work not that Jackson didn't but I really didn't like the constant comparison between the two and it put a wedge up against Jackson which stayed there until he passed and I missed a lot of his music enjoyment during his life which I have looked back on now and actually enjoy his stuff more now which is kind of sad to me.

I wish Michael could have grown more as an artist in the 80's and stopped worrying about record sales. I think we saw more of that growth in the 90's on Dangerous and especially on HIStory and Blood On The Dance Floor. Yet it was always stuck in the middle of very commercial songs that gave the illusion of an attempt to recapture the glory days of Thriller. The difference between him and Prince and Stevie is that Prince and Stevie didn't care what the public said, they continued to make whatever they wanted to. Of course, Stevie later sold his soul in the 80's (although most of the music was still great) like Prince did in the 90's (although some of the music was still great), but they still grew artistically. I mean, even after years of being in the business Prince can still churn out a Rainbow Children (great music, questionable lyrics), while Michael was doing Invincible. I think by that point that he was just tired of it all...
