those boots were like from the dirty mind days.. like high heeled moccasins!! & his skinny lil legs in those leggings kinda remind me of the stocking variety back then too

It was actually painful to watch - a shambles. Musicians who didnt know how to play, microphones not working, Prince fiddling with things on stage and grunting everyother word "time - ha - to get - ha - funky ha").

Is that Shelby? Good on her giving hime the 3 finger salute behinbd his back on 17:40

i must be easy to please then!... the only thing i saw that was really fucking painful to watch was the backing singers dancing & their ugly dresses

Doesn't it just feel stale to you? It's just all so dull now...Prince Playing non-descript tracks that you'll never hear again, on a bog standard Strat, the same 'hits'. In believeit is Jerome Benton who chucks The Kid' cheeks and says, "So exciting" right at the start of Purple Rain.

So excited is how I feel moment. I haven't seen Prince so imaginative in quite some time.

A couple of thoughts occur:

1. Prince is stupid.

2. He ain't as stupid as we think he is.

3. The burqa comment would fly in France.

4. That's quite clever.

5. He's a JW; they would long for the control of Islam.

6. He's not an actual JW; it may have been a marketable comment prior to his European dates.

7. Prince is stupid, though - refer to point 1.

8. Shit, he might actually have some songs in the vault.

9. SO EXCITING!

I always thought he said, "so sexy", not "so exciting". Haven't seen it in a bit, and my memory's fading.

I can't say I care about those minor faults, microphones not working etc....

wtf... this performance was Funky!! music

those minor faults: that is WHAT is happening at a live tv performance, for christ's sake..... all the time, not only for Prince!!

don't worry about these accidents, open up yo ears and mind - and enjoy... instead of looking at some faults.

this Canal Plus performance was magnificent. Simply fantastic, this is what Prince i capable to deliver as a musician in 2011:

These musicians incl. Prince are working hard, their skills oh those are bloody HIGH, and some of you just won't appreciate, can't hear it...?

Maybe you can't see the woods.... is the glass half full or half empty...

OK maybe I am just taking those who feels negative about the performance too near. Cuz I was really trippin'..... biggrin

Sure, different opinions, and you are entitled to have yours.

I was feeling it last night, and IMO this performance was fantastic,

(rant over now.....)

wink worship

I haven't found Prince live engaging for a while now, so take my view with a pinch of salt.

That's the one thing I really hate about Prince's shows these days. Don't just SAY you're hella funky; just show it. Be it!! If you really are THAT funky, you don't need to say it over and over and over and over again, ad nauseam. It's like he's trying to convince himself these days.

Yes, I know back in the day he would say how funky he and the band were, but he didn't beat us over the head with it, in words or boasts. He did it mostly with just bringing that shit LIVE!!!! The legend of his live shows was built on his energetic, brilliant performances of yesteryear. If he started his career giving shows like the muddled ones he's been doing for the past few years, his reputation for being a great live performer wouldn't be even CLOSE to what it is today. Not. Even. Close.

Whatever floats your boat but I've list count of the times I've seen that 'hits set' in recent years..always Ssshh, Peach (why play it if you've got to change the lyrics) and Anotherloverholenyohead.

Although it gives me hope....I can't play guitar either so maybe I could be part of the band. Absoloutely awful...uncharacteristically awful

Don't worry, dude. I DEFINITELY noticed that riff too. I actually thought he was going to do a cover of that when I first heard it at the beginning. And I had mentioned earlier the "The Max"/"Rave" incorporations in his solo.

Stop arguing. American woman's riff has been used about a thousand times in Rock&Roll hostiry.

"You need a real drummer, if you want a good beat" -- really, Prince? I daresay that most of the beats you came up with on a drum computer in the 1980s are far superior than John Blackwell's "I must hit every part of this drumkit at least once every couple of seconds" crap.

Seriously, fire those "backing singers".

Oh, and another song about how funky you are? Hey, here's an idea: SHOW DON'T TELL. Write funky tunes instead of lame ass "look at me I'm so funky it hurts" generic crap.

And FYI: "Peach" is about sex. Stop being a hypocrite. And sweet jebus, that was one weak-ass version. You'd think you'd be able to play that song after it being a regular live staple for the past TWENTY YEARS.

And don't even get me started on "Anotherloverholenyohead". (Seriously? Incorporating Mötley Crüe's "Dr. Feelgood" -- a song about a drug dealer?)

Yeah it was a fun performance. DMSR was a waste..always so lame to hear him change al the lyrics to be "clean"..that goes against the entire spirit of th song. But we are used to this by now...to some degree at least.

Sure it's to bad he wasn't in a different place that we liked even better but good to see him onstage being funky and presumably enjoying himself.

Prince is a musician not a lifestyle.

Looks like it was a technical trainwreck behind the scenes. The mix is screwed, the camera work is no better, they've got security guards in a controlled TV studio environment...then he's visibly unhappy if not complaining about the sound, plus there's the reaching over to Andy's guitar futzing with her in the middle of songs, at least one song is pitchy, and Prince is never pitchy, and songs ending abruptly...

...it's like it forced him to actually work on stage and rock it out.

They're almost the exact same riff, so in the context of a Prince concert, I'd say that you're right if you call it "Rock Lobster" or "Dr. Feelgood".
