I thought the same thing when I read the interview. I am glad someone else did and mentioned it. Prince should just shut up and if he doesnt want to release another album then thats fine. No big deal

I can see it now. Prince at a Whitehouse function:

Prince: "C'mon Barack U-da-Bomb-a - if the whitehouse is black, let us take the radio back!"

Obama: "Say what?"

Prince: "20 churches in a one mile radius brother, we need to champion our similarities, not our differences..."

Obama: "That's all very well Prince, but what has that got to do with..."

Prince: "It's all about 'dem chemtrails, you know..."

Obama: "Chem what?"

Prince: "You know, the ones that are spraying for dog meat to use in hot-dogs ..."

Obama: "...err... well, I don't know anything about that, but hey, we've got this new proposal we're working on for artist rights..."

Prince: "Nah, we don't need that - the prefix to 'contract' is 'CON'. It just makes things smaller"

Obama: "Hmmm... Well, thanks for coming then Prince. You're looking great by the way."

Prince: "Thanks - it's those years of playing electric guitar I tell ya. The electricity keeps me from going bald... and Bible study, and..."

Obama (butting in): "Righteo. Thanks Prince. I got stuff to do now. Later"

Prince: "Owah!!"

Obama:

eye hope so...with this being such a huge issue, we need someone focused like Prince 2 discuss and raise awareness with key leaders in the WH, including the President. the more ppl filled with love and honesty that go to DC and visit the Prez, all the better. and, eye hope that he kicks off the re-entry of the Welcome 2 America tour in DC with the visit 2 the WH.

Him actually going to the White House is like finding Sasquatch coming in your home and eating your food. In other words, you're dreaming if you think he's actually going to be there. lol

The president is the president of all United States citizens - whether they voted for him or not.

C'mon, we all know that the only demographic that politicians care about are the elderly. Maybe when Prince enters his golden years he will find that he has some pull but until then he's just a schlub like the rest of us.

Sure, but it is still hypocritical.

Exactly. It's not just that Prince didn't vote for Obama . . . it's that Prince didn't (doesn't) vote AT ALL. His beliefs keep him in a world separate from the American political system, but yet he wants to "use" that same system for his own needs?

However, as a tax-paying citizen (he does pay taxes, right?) he's entitled to all of the same rights as anyone else.

On another note: with all of this unemployment, national debt, and wars in 2 countries, does anyone give a rat's ass about rich musicians not getting richer?

A lot of musicians get invited to the White House, and I'm sure the Obamas wouldn't mind having him as a guest. He is prob. just going to make a comment on behalf of recording musicians and maybe getting some federal influence in blocking file share/download sites.

Even if he didn't vote, he still gets taxes taken out of his publishing, tours and property.

I actually think if he paid attention to what's going on over the past couple of years, people have been buying music over trying to track free copies down. People bought millions of Beatles downloads the week it went online. They've been pirated plenty, but they still make hundreds of millions a year.

It's up to him how he wants to sell and distribute his music. Piracy is only affecting his Warners era because people want the old stuff, but some of them might be trying to gather all the stuff he's done since then just to have everything up to date.
