Yep people have such a sense of entitlement... you can already read the comments calling Prince stupid.
I read that shit and thought Prince is right. We do need boundaries... we don't live in a world where anything goes and everything is ok. There are consequences for our actions.
The United States is such a fucking mess right now politically, culturally, religiously, socially, etc...
Everyone at each other throats.... Chaos and Disorder everywhere... Look at the responses to an article that we don't even know that it’s true. A Prince board no less
Too many of you want Prince to still act he is 20 years old wearing high heeled boots and singing about bangin his sister like some cat in heat
Let this dude do his thing or bounce... I have no idea why most of you even post on this board with the rude and obscene things that many of you say about him.
I understood exactly what Prince was talking about. Some of you need to get out more… there was nothing negative or stupid or foolish about his comments. The reaction to them without the kind of serious introspection they deserve is disgusting Dance... Let me see you dance

Prince is not the President of the United States. He has a right 2 speak what he feels. People act like he said he wants Bin Laden back alive or something ....Lighten up! Its just an interview. Not the end of the world. will ALWAYS think of like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that wasn't of this earth, would not have been that surprised. R.I.P.

The only thing missed by many is that this is the very reason why Princey doesn't allow his interviews to be recorded...that way, he can always claim he was misquoted/misunderstood.
Despite his exquisite talent and grace onstage, he knows that he's awkward and abysmally gaffe-prone in interviews, so plausible deniability is an old trick he uses.
Some purple musings from planet Paisley...with a few Gemini mind games thrown in. No big deal. Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

Musical genius. Social simpleton. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

You are so right SquirrelMeat. I noticed most of your posts here regarding Prince (in spite of my love for Prince trying to win over), are accurate when it comes to his own advice and "Morals". THE man is a walking and staggering contradiction...He seriously is. It's Button Therapy, Baby!

I think it's very telling and symbolic that this is the picture that is running with this interview:
The LARGER THAN LIFE Prince that I will always know, love and remember fondly...is fading away. What's left of him...is that smaller, barely recognizable guy with the cold eyes and the "Leave me the fuck alone!" stance.
I finally get it. LOUD and crystal clear! I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

I'm posing this question not just to you but to everyone who is up in arms about this interview. Did this change anything for you personally on a real level or is it just another bump in the road? I ask this because a lot of orgers have chimed in who claimed to have written Prince off before but he still registers on their radar to this day. When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

Recording is always gonna be in Prince's blood, like he says. Without, he'd die. Direct quote there besides pronoun. I'm not worried about it, we'll see another Prince album Yes, at 19, I finally saw the Revolution, a legendary band. And I talked to Wendy!!! In addition to seeing Prince, I have now lived life. Thank you Purple People!!

I feel a bitter undertone to that interview. The part about choice of religion is just scary. That's what a lot of religious people start to forget, free will, a choice, and a right to choose. We all need laws and guide lines but he seems like he went from one extreme to another, seems like people with controlling attitudes either want to control or be controlled, no middle ground. Oh well he has enough good albums to listen to, we can use a break from new material, no biggie.

I thought his words were particularly interesting in this regard:
"The new pushes the old out of the way and retains what it wants to. Don't ask me about popular acts. Ask Janelle. Doesn't matter what I say. We ain't raining on anyone's parade. I ain't mad at anybody. I don't have any enemies."
He seems to be acknowledging here that he is old and getting pushed out of the way by younger, edgier, more daring artists. I sense a level of resignation. "That...magic, the start of something revolutionary-the Minneapolis Sound, we should cherish it and not punish prince for not being able to replicate it."-Dreamshaman32

LOL, that's why I give about as much thought to his view of the world as he would give to my musicianship.
It's fun watching everybody's head explode over his views though. He sure knows how to keep the tongues wagging around here. Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

AND the last thing I am saying to all of this is.."Controversy". Prince I believe is fully aware of the reality that he will be taken out of context. Sometimes I am not aware of it,but this is the mystery and genius of Prince. I can never dissect what he is really saying, but that is not my purpose. The man has been like this for a long time, so this should not be as strange land to me. ( The more I think about it, it's just another level of paradise insanity & Genius) I will be expecting something new from Prince as with all things from him...SUDDENLY. BOOM! Just like that he comes with something new. He will say all of this NOW and then prove something differently LATER..(Without the illusion & non existence of time.) His controversy speaks and I accept his mystery and controversy..REGARDLESS! Eye wish U heaven; Prince. Because we are definitely seeing different numbers here..Yours might be 11, and mine's 7, I wish you love!
"I don't want to get up on a soapbox. My view of the world, you can debate that for ever. But I'm a musician".
This pretty much should sum it up for everyone, it does for me..So in terms of him being an musician is a untouchable, and simply one of my favorites! He is a genius, and there is enough archive of material that will still have him as one of my favorites..FOR ALL TIME! He is still sticky like glue to my taste...Haha [Edited 6/23/11 20:49pm] It's Button Therapy, Baby!

Me personally I am detached about his views, my response is more like an observation. I would say he is becoming a very interesting case study. Control seems to be a recurrent theme in his life. But it doesn't run that deep.

There are times when Prince says something interesting, even profound...this isn't one of those times,
Does it change anything or bother me? Not particularly. I might feel different if he ever decided to run for office though,
The thing is, the people leaping to his defense are just as funny as the ones who are up in arms. Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

He also let U talk 2 him face 2 face & this is how U repay him? He is just imagining how he wants the world 2 b. But he can live how he wants. No one else have 2 live that way. What is wrong with him wanting the world 2 live by one religion?
Prince's songs has always toyed & hinted @ him wanting 2 b in "The New Breed" & creating a peaceful environment 2 live. But that is his dreams that he wants 2 happen. His opinions. People r 2 uptight.
"Open ur heart open ur mind, A train is leaving all day A wonderful trip through our time And laughter is all U pay".......
"PaisleyPark"
There is a park that is known
This is how Prince has always thought. Its how he wants the world 2 b. Its not reality but there his dreams...Don't U want 2 live life in his shoes?.
"I don't want to get up on a soapbox. My view of the world, you can debate that for ever. But I'm a musician"And I also am music. Come to the show for that.".
That is Prince in a nutshell in his own words.. [Edited 6/23/11 20:36pm] [Edited 6/24/11 1:43am] will ALWAYS think of like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that wasn't of this earth, would not have been that surprised. R.I.P.

The Interview itself is not the truth, it has been fabricated, this is one of the reasons why Prince stayed away from them. If U've followed him as a musician over the past 11 years even, U'd know that interviews used 2 b a NO, NO. Instead of speaking bad about him, try and take a deeper look, its simple really. There's NO WAY, nothing in life, that will keep Prince from making more MUSIC..it is who he is. If there were NO music/Albums coming from him - he wouldn't xsist. Think about it. Peace!!

People on here slam him for seeing the positives in creating boundaries while claiming they are all about freedom of choice. So, he is not entitled to choose to think a certain way if it conflicts with their thoughts. That somehow makes him stupid and them enlightened. The very people who whine about freedom attempt to oppress those who have dissenting beliefs by calling them names. Oh, you have to love the maturity of that. No wonder these people want a 53 year-old man to think and behave like a 23 year old. perfection is a fallacy of the imagination...
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
yeah but making music and releasing it is two different things. this the guy that has a 100 unreleased songs for every oone song that is released, and the last album didn't even hit the states. I can see him rebelling and not putting anything out for awhile, then boom a record with a major distrubutor hits the states.. he changes like the wind, we know him by now.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
But therein lies the problem. Why is this kind of talk not OK? Because you don't agree with it? The very idea of stating that a counterview is flawed because it is not alignment with your opinions is flawed. In fact, to use your words, it is contradictory to what you appear to be asserting.
At the end of the day they are OPINIONS!!! No matter how much you THINK you are right, it is your OPINION. Is Prince or anyone agrees with him (not all adoring defenders by the way) not entitled to an OPINION? Is it flawed simply because you don't like it? Where is the logic in that line of "thinking?" perfection is a fallacy of the imagination...

We all kno that if u don't understand Prince when he talks, one can clearly miss whatever point he's tryin to make...therefore, I'm taking this entire article with a grain of salt & imo, most of us should do too. Look at how many times interviews have been purposely skewed & tainted just to make it 'jump' out at the audience and get reviews. I'm not buyin it Don't get me wrong, I'm not sayin it's impossible that he made those statements, but I'll quicker believe that he didn't than swallow all what they said he said. I swear the words "HATER" is wayyy over-rated...smh

Contrary to popular Fam beliefs...I, personally, am an eternal optimist. In spite of what has been repeatedly "labeled" as my pessimistic vocal views on Prince over recent years. I have managed to hold on to a mere sliver of what's known as hope...that if I held onto that...things otherwised deemed as impossible and highly unlikely...COULD...somehow change.
Slightly off topic but relevent to the point I want to make...
In 2003, I was a long time viewer of the soap opera One Life To Live. My favorite actor Roger Howarth who portrayed the character Todd Manning, decided to leave the show and move on to AsThe World Turns. I and many other fans, weren't happy about that. Eventually, TBTB, decided to recast the role of Todd Manning with someone else. I didn't like that either. So I stopped watching Soaps, altogether. I hadn't watched nor supported the Soaps in years. They still moved on and did what they do...as did I. Yet I held onto a sliver of hope that things could somehow change.
Eight years later, suddenly, when I hadn't even thought about any daytime Soaps...I was tickled to hear that the Soap, that had been on and thriving since I was born was being canceled.
However, before I could get my gloat on. It was announced that the reason I stopped watching in the first place...was returning. I've been eagerly and happily watching...again...ever since.
I've said this to illustrate for you...that it was that same tenancity...that's kept me holding on to that sliver of hope that things would change...in spite of ALL...that's happened...concerning my love for Prince.
Unfortunately...there wasn't another someone standing in for Prince. All along...it's been what's left of Prince, himself...daring, egging and begging...me to leave him alone.
Ironically, or purposely....I'm watching Stephen Colbert at this very moment...as I type this...singing a song called...I'm Over You! [Edited 6/23/11 20:59pm] I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.
