I am hope Prince and his band keep making new albums. Keep making music from the vault. He said he has a lot of music his written. Unless he gave the music to other musicians, and singers.

Everyone's been saying Prince should take a year or two off before releasing another CD. So what's the problem now? When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

Well from the beginning Prince has said a many-a-thing that has left me looking like and yet here I sit, so this, right here, doesn't faze me a bit, if, after all this time, anybody is expecting anything just simple, straight forward and normal to come out of his mouth, keep holding you breathe, off to the side is how it is with him, deal with it, at this point in his life it's religion. Of course there have been those rare occasions (well I can only think of one interview, actually). Butnot releasing another album/cd (whatever), I think my heart just stopped. Heck just last night I was listening to one of my least favorite album of his while piddling around the house and was surprised how much I was actually enjoying it. So honestly I don't care if whatever he does isn't a monster or commercial success or even if a lot of org folk don't like it. Personally, at some point I find enjoyment out of it.

Yeah, I said the same earlier in the thread, although they're not positive in the sense they're agreeing with his comments - they're positive in the sense that everyone pretty much agrees he's a has been who's always said crazy shit, but he get's a free pass on his dumb-fuck comments because of his awesome 80s catalogue.

Once again much to do about nothing.

don't c anything wrong with the interview. like it. Most geniuses think out the box.
2 b an entertainer & in the industry U don't think like every one else that is not naturally gifted like Prince. Its a gift & a curse. Prince has found inner peace in himself 2 deal with the real world that has put him in a place that most will never be.
Give him a break! He has been a superstar practically all his whole life. So of course he is going 2 go by his own rules, Because he can. He will always be misunderstood. Anyone that calls themselves a Prince fan should already know this about him. George Lopez thinks he is cool & so was the interview.

You don't see the issue with him saying people are happy with being told what to do? "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

More in-depth version of the interview, as many of you go nuts reading the summary

Hmm...maybe we really do just get too caught up ("Maybe??!!" I hear you say )
I mentioned the article to my trainer today who's a very casual Prince fan (ie. knows some songs because his partner has a couple of albums, etc...) and he couldn't see the big deal.
His POV was that Prince was basically just saying that it would be nice to live in a place where there was no religious conflict because everyone held the same belief and followed the same rules.
When I argued that saying that any country, including Muslim countries, was a representation of that was a gross oversimplification, he just shrugged and said, "That's why he's a musician, not a politician. He should probably just stick to talking about music."
It got me thinking. I wonder what would happen if we found a journalist (probably retired) who had way too much time on their hands and got them to organise interviews with a handful of orgers. The interviews would have to be over an hour and the journalist would be deliberately guiding the interview towards getting a "headline", or at the very least, something juicy.
What would the resulting articles look like? How much would the interviewees protest that it wasn't quite what they said, or it was out of context, or it was not what they meant, or it was too hard to explain?
I certainly wouldn't be volunteering.
Definitely this seems to be one of his more notable political gaffes, and perhaps it speaks of some deeper issues, but we can't hope to analyse his intentions and motivations based on a newspaper article.
I just hope the music industry comes up with a way of releasing music in this technological climate that he's happy with, because I suspect he's been sitting on some A-grade material for some time now, waiting for the right time/format to release it.
The moment brilliant new music gets released, these interviews are quickly forgotten.

George Lopez is a toadie on the same level as Tavis Smiley, although at least Smiley does some good stuff for the world when he's not kissing Prince's ass.

My thoughts on the full article are no different than with the summary.
Prince not recording another album, from my understanding, due to piracy: Don't care. Haven't cared in years. There has been enough of a back catalogue and bootlegs to keep me interested in him as a artist. As a person, I think he sucks.
He continues to punish his fans for the bad behavior of some. Even when I have heard projects on the evil internet, I have continued to go to the store and buy them, and in the case of the Lotusflower site, I paid my money. He punished those of us that did join for the ones that didn't. I thought it was funny that he now says he hates digital music when money of the hits he's had have been "masterpieces" due in part of digital music and the music offered on his sites was offered digitally.
The rest of article I found myself . Them using his name to sell Glastonbury. I never, ever heard that before. The BS on Islam, which he shows his complete ignorance on. The stuff about Glee and Kiss. They would have had to have his permission to perform it because they were recording it.The noise he can't escape. He's freakin' Prince. Even in the suburbs of Chicago, I barely hear car alrms or planes flying over head. WTf is he talking about? He has the means to make any reality he wants appear.
My opinion on the matter: he's committing career suicide. On purpose. He's tired of it all. I think he realizes he has hit his creative peak and simply wants to be left alone. And what better way than to continue to alienate those who have supported you?
I figure he's going to move to Abu Dhabi or somewhere far away from the states.
And for those who would defend him even as he is looking you in the eye and stabbing you in the back, if we are misinterpreting what he is saying, then he needs to stop the double speak and talk to us like the adult he is. I have a feeling though, that there is nothing he could say that some of you would have a problem with.

Ok now that I've read the whole thing...
Initial reaction!
Then after reading it I was more like The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.

my back is seared with scars from the stabbings of much more powerful men than prince.
petty gripes over prince's struggle with the english language make me feel sad for 'those who', after how many years? still dont realise what he's really saying.
should a poet change the way they communicate just because his readers dont understand poetry?
i think not. but thats just my opinion. "It's time for you to go to the wire."
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Or maybe they just don't give a fuck what the hell he says.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Wow this is just ridiculous.
Petty gripe? It ain't that deep. When prince wants to be understood and not misunderstood, he speaks clear as a bell. When he doen'ts, he speaks in Princespeak. Poetry to you, total BS to some. Maybe it was cool and deep when I was 15 years old but i'm over 40 now and don't have time to waste trying to figure out what someone is trying to say/saying anymore.
Mine is also an opinion. Guess you missed that part.

Prince just isn't that sophisticated. That's all that's happening here.
It turns out his core fans love parts of his catalog, but probably wouldn't want to be the guys buddy, and show for lycra together.
As for the Islam topic - I almost wonder if this possibly maybe might have something to do with a loan. A Michael Jackson style loan from a Saudi Prince. Or maybe he just wanted to say something positive and didn't have a fully formed thought he was able to articulate.

It sounds like saying: "Hey man, if you really give a toss about what I have to say, YOU are the one who is crazy! I may be here on the front page trying to stir up shit but don't blame me because I'm just a musican.
Tho' I am THE ARTIST! don't you forget about it...."
