It was sooooo funny when Rick came out in "86 with his "Glow" video that he was wearing paisley with the ruffled shirt and even rocked boots. Why would he want to rock the look of someone he hated soooooo much? |

Crazy indeed

I think Prince picked the wrong person to mess with (lol).Sinead is like a little pitbull.
It's a shame that they had this fight.Sinead's recording of "Nothing Compares 2 U" was one of the few bright spots in a year when Prince wasn't doing so well (Graffiti Bridge?).
What hit did Sinead have after "NCTU"? |

I've always wondered if Rick either slept with Prince on the "Fire It Up" tour or maybe approached him and got rejected. I mean, he talked about Prince for decades. I remember a show on VH1 in the late 1990s called "The List" and Rick was one of the guests. Each guest was supposed to name who they thought was the biggest star of the 1980s. Rick named himself. Someone else named Michael Jackson, another person named Madonna, and another person named Prince. When I heard the word "Prince", I couldn't wait to see what Rick's reaction would be. He looked at the woman that named Prince and said to her...."Good choice. She's beautiful, she's talented, and she can rock those heels". Anyway, at the end of the show, when they made their top 3 list, Michael Jackson was named number 1, Madonna was named number 2, and Rick James was named number 3. Now, you know good and damn well they just gave him Prince's slot since he as a guest on the show. Andy is a four letter word. |

Here's a little story involving Jah Wobble
http://percy3.wordpress.com/2010/02/25/last-one-from-the-archives-1999-interview-with-natacha-atlas/
The second story, and this is where I swore, and Nick got really embarrassed, involved The Artist Formally Known as Prince, Prince, who I really don’t like anyway. He had come to see Wobble play, because he was a fan of -Wobble, many people were in the music world, even though he wasn’t wildly popular to the public. He was at the gig, and obviously he had a backstage pass. Prince came up to Wobble and his manager Dave, and he said to Wobble, ‘Oh man, I love your bass, hot and sticky, just how I like it.’ Wobble just looked at Dave and said ‘get this fucking little shit out of here now!’ Wobble doesn’t care, even though Prince was famous. He thought Prince was a pretentious asshole, ‘get this fucking little motherfucking shit out of here now!’ I said this on KCRW radio, and Nick went bright red, I said don’t you beep them out (starts making beeping sounds)? After that he was a bit apprehensive, he was even still Pink when I left.
That isn't what happened at all. Wobble recounted this story in his autobiography. They jammed on stage together in Minneapolis in the early 80's, and Wobble didn't know who Prince was. He thought he was Sylvester.
Oh Lord, I've done heard it all now! Andy is a four letter word. |

Wasn't he locked up or cracked up for most of the 80's? It must have been a courtesy. |

Boy George also described Prince as a midget dipped in a vat of oil and rolled in pubic hair.
I remember some years later, BG remarked about how remarkable Prince's professionalism was. How ever facial tick, ever gesture, etc. was rehearsed. BG seemed very impressed by this. |

That George.
I guess years go down the line and they change their opinion but I can kinda see why Prince would make people mad back then. Even Rick had respect for him despite his own attacks. |

None really, if you consider the charts. She's considered a one-hit wonder here in the U.S. but she had a few hits in Europe and some songs were number-one on the dance and rock charts in the states prior to her version of "Nothing". |

I don't blame Sinead for hating him though, that Paisley Park incident was crazy.
It ties into that whole "I don't want anyone covering my songs (except my proteges/influences/girlfriends)" he was talking about on George Lopez, and she was a volatile, confrontational person who reacted when he was talking down to her. She hit a raw nerve, started spitting at him, and he completely lost it. It's not like she was some innocent little girl, she was Courtney Love level crazy back then.
But had Prince found someone to record it, who's to say if it would've been #1?
Reznor's made comments about Prince.
I think Reznors comments have been bang on the money though, cutting right thru the bullshit artifice that often clouds Prince's judgement. It isn't 1984 anymore, you can't get away with pulling some of the kind of stuff and people not commenting on it.
For the record, he's a big Prince fan and can often be found at Prince shows if he's in town. |

Grateful? She sang the song becausae she liked it, not because she somehow KNEW it was gonna be a hit.
If someone gave my $100, I'd be grateful. However, that gives them no right to talk down to me. Understand? Do someone a favor doesn't give you the right to be an asshole. NOT TO MENTION that he didn't do her a favor. She heard a song by a band and she covered it. The song became a huge hit and I'm quite sure everyone was surprised. Prince doesn't like women who shave their heads and don't wear dresses? That HIS failing, not hers. |

I remember this. It was a joint interview in Entertainment Weekly magazine (I think) with P!nk, Andre 3000, Dave Matthews, and someone else. One of the questions the magazine asked them was if they liked Michael Jackson or Prince better. I don't remember the whole discussion (I read it years ago in a bookstore), but Andre & Dave chose Prince and P!nk chose Michael. P!nk basically said she didn't get Prince's appeal and she tried to listen to his music because a boyfriend she had liked Prince. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton |

Slash. He said in Rolling Stone (back in 91?) that he "hated" him and called him the "F" word.
I remember seeing that VH-1 show with Rick and I thought it was funny. They gave him props only because he was on the show. |

I wasn't. When I read in Billboard that she was going to cover it for her next album, I knew it would be a huge hit. I thought The Family's version should have been released as a single.
I loved it at until I read what Sinead was planning, I was planning to produce a cover of it.
To me, the song has always been a natural hit. Prince, for some reason, never saw it. I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think. |

Didn't somebody from a rock band (I think Guns N Roses) talk bad about Prince after he walked right by them backstage and didn't acknowledge them when they were trying to say hello? Intelligent people talk about ideas. -->Average people talk about things. --> Small people talk about other people. |
