Swim deep...Several questions.

Hello, Princedotorg--

I got this idea from watching many YOUTUBE videos of musicians teaching how to play gospel music...Would it be against the law to discuss Prince's music in musician's terms?

Say what kinds of chords are in certain songs.

Play examples of Prince tunes on their own instruments.

Show how to play some tunes on guitar, bass, keyboards, and/or drums.

Is it against the law for orgers to upload their versions (covers) of Prince tunes?

I may not like the man.
I may not like his music after the mid 90s.

I respect his current artistry...I just don't like him.

No hate.

IDK about divulging written chords and scores, but putting a cover online is illegal UNLESS you register your cover at, and pay the legal amount of royalties to ASCAP, in which case u're free to do it as much as u want and Prince can't do anything (but you probably won't be allowed to post a link here on Prince.org).

Now I'm quite sure that to SHOW how to play a certain part of a song on a certain instrument cannot be considered a cover and should therefore be protected by the "fair use" law and can therefore be posted online without paying any royalties (unless of course u use this to make money for example by including it on a paying method or publicizing a paying method).

Hope this helped wink

Thanks, databank...

I was a die-hard Prince fan. For a hint of nostalgia, I had personally learned a lot of Prince songs from records and can play them. I figured that it would be pretty cool if fellow org-ers were allowed to play their covers of Prince tunes...and show some skills on their instruments.

I don't want to get the legal dobermans on me. It really isn't worth it.

It was an idea... sad

Ozlem--

I haven't made the videos for those songs...yet. (I still have my charts written down though.)

I didn't want to realize actual revelations (REIT: putting some work into the vids) and then have his lawyers squelch it. (I liked a LOT of Prince's early works up to Lovesexy...and from there...things REALLY SUCK'D.)

If I did something it would be from that funkier era of Prince.
