Interesting to also read the anecdote shared in another recent thread suggesting Prince once either jammed, or approached as a fan, Jah Wobble of PIL.

That one surprised me.

you know what? > WaterInYourBath ..i think that the majority on this forum...really don't give a shit about what you think!!

and you, Lovetothenines2003, are rude and uneducated.

Thank you Joe, indeed, and he/she is greatly confused. lol Especially since his/her own post with that clip of "Replicas" from YouTube I quoted on page one explicitly concurs with my sentiment, LOL. If I hadn't watched that video and read the other comparisons posted here, I wouldn't have even discovered just how much Prince "borrowed" from Numan, hence my subsequent "James Richard Numan" comment. To say Numan also influenced that 1999 photo may be somewhat farfetched, but other than that, I wasn't exaggerating.

So yeah, re-read this thread real quick, go over your own replies, and get back at me love2thewhatever. You'll find you're barking up the wrong tree with that weak retort.....Try again.

No! I l love a good debate!

Let's continue!!

....It still is.

lol

Nope. lol

But seriously, how though? Explain that to me, 'cause it's obvious Prince blatantly took a lot from this guy (as he did James Brown, Little Richard, as well as Hendrix). The evidence is all over this thread.

This isn't the first time I've heard about musicians raving about Gary Numan - which has always been kinda funny to me because I'm always like, "...They're talking about the guy who made that song 'Cars'?"

It seems weird to me that people see him as a genius. Although, to be fair all I've ever heard from the guy is that song, maybe he's done some really epic shit I've never even heard before.

You gotta check out Ice Man by Numan! As I said before, "Music for the Gods."

I've always said that "Automatic" was "Cars" influenced. I love to play those two back to back.

just reading some more of the 'prince in the studio' by jake brown.. and near the end...the engineer told of one of the few times that prince would indulge in some small talk with him during the graffiti bridge sessions...

.

'do you like gary numan' ?...prince asked him...'you know, his album replicas never left my turntable...there are people still trying to work out what a genius he was' ....

.

well this is certainly news to me....i liked numan's big singles in the late 70s ...need to dig out that album and give it a listen.....i must admit i always thought numan was a david bowie wannabe...

.

although i did think that 'are friends electric' was ahead of its time...maybe there is more to him than i thought...
