I love the deep voice narration, it's very cult like. The narration helps the story flow, could you imagine how stupid it would be in a regular voice?

Out of those you listed, I've always been fond of "Last December" and "She Loves Me 4 Me".

My favorite is probably "The Sensual Everafter" though.

yes it would sound stupid in a normal voice but the album would have been amazing with no voice at all!

If I ever even listen to this album, it's always at Halloween time for some reason. Between the deep voice & "Wedding Feast", I look at this album as more of a gothic album somewhat..... neutral

الحيوان النادلة ((((|̲̅̅●̲̅̅|̲̅̅=̲̅̅|̲̅̅●̲̅̅|)))) ...AND THAT'S THE WAY THE "TITTY" MILKS IT!

Because The Wedding Feast is so dark and haunting?

Those four songs are, by a very wide margin, my favourite tracks on the album and some of the best stuff he recorded post WB. If the whole album maintained a similar level of quality The Rainbow Children would be one of my favourite Prince albums. I don't really dig much of the lite jazz sound of the first half of the album.

^Funny, it's the opposite for me! I could do without the last 3 tracks of the album. "The last december" is cheesy as hell. The grooves and melodies of "Everlasting Now" and "Family Name" don't get me excited at all.

IMO TRC would have been much stronger if Prince had finished it with "She loves me 4 me"!

Who would have ever thought that there would be two Prince fans that had wildly different opinions about his music? Usually we are a very agreeable bunch. lol

"Family Name" and, especially, "The Everlasting Now" really bring the funk. "Last December" is cheesy but sometimes a little cheese can be good for you. wink Plus it has some very tasty guitars.

I find that a lot of the keyboard sounds are a bit of a turnoff on the first half of the album.

Even the twists of "Last december" can't save this anthem from clichee ridden songwriting.

Tunes like "The everlasting now" are often praised as incredible funky by people who aren't really into funk as a genre. They just love to jump up and down, I guess. wink

There may be some truth to your "jump up and down" comment but I find it impossible not to move when I hear that song.

Only care for She Loves Me 4 Me. And that is a GREAT song! I put it on one of many Prince mix cds, but I probably can't even find TRC or Planet Earth cds.

Does anybody know you're here? This house of ill-repute...

Good call. Thanks for pointing out that there aren't many great songs on the album. 4 out of 14 is an awful percentage. This really puts it into perspective.

Everlasting Now didn't hit me until I heard it live.

The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. (www.amazon.com/gp/product/1538114623/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i0) or www.facebook.com/groups/1...104195943/

Madhouseman the reason i asked about this 4 songs is not because i think those are the only good songs.

Dogmatic concept of the album ends with Wedding Feast

and this 4 songs belong to the concept of album only in a sonic way,not in an overall concept.

Best Prince for me is Prince doing raw synth funk from 1982-1984 time period.

but i do find The Rainbow Children to be one of his best albums. Why?

Because Prince is in the zone on it and he sounds very inspired.

It isn't true that album contains Jazz noodling,

jazz overtones yes but it isn't jazz.

I find every song to be great on that album.

even Wedding Feast which is a joke

made to make you laugh and never intended to be serious.

The production is amazing, some of his best

,very heavy very hard hitting.

Some people say that album suffers from Loudness Effect but i think somehow it works.

Really amazing album and ignored by fans because of some deep voice narrations which again sound cool to me.

oh sorry. Glad you like the album. I've tried it on for size every time and the music gets lost in the message and the story. I enjoyed a few of the songs, but just can't get past the heavy handed preaching behind most of it. Since Prince has about 46 discs of music and dozens of tracks that went to associated artists and hundreds of unreleased songs, I find that I don't have much interest in going back to disks I haven't liked after several listens, but I'll give this one another listen soon.

Wedding Feast heart

but to be honest,

I really like the album, I think it's great musically (Digital Garden).

just like: forget the rules and music of the past, start making a new feeling on this record.

(Yeah and I also hate those kids from the neighbours)
