before i came to this site i thought i was a big prince fan, i am at least one of the biggest prince fans i know (besides maybe one other friend). but since i came here, i see i had no idea about what being a prince fan was. i didnt have any bootlegs before i came here abt a year ago, had not even heard of even the dream factory (its now one of my favorites). this site really educates me a lot and first off i wanna thank u all for DF, electric intercourse, and countless other P songs i either had never heard or really didnt pay any attention to until i saw your commentary ('Girl' and '17 days' immediately come to mind)...

that being said, i still havent heard a prince album after 'emancipation', have no desire to look at prince pictures (maybe cuz im a straight male), and i still think a lot of his songs are complete garbage (7, arms of orion, my name is P, and anything on 1999 besides the title track, LRC and LPWM all make me want to heave)...BUT i do now own almost every available song from the 80s and i am seriously contemplating ordering the DMSR book, and i think he is AT LEAST top 5 musicians of the modern era, so im still a bigger fan than average

6.5/10

Every other day, my rating changes from 8-10. But no one else can get a rating anywhere close to that. He's mezmerized me for over 25 years. Honestly, I don't have the same enthusiasm for his music as I used to but I sitll support him and nothing can change how much I love him. Prince FOREVER bishes!

.......Oh-oh-oh, by the way...He plays guitar.

The more these Purple Rain fair weather fans who were crapping in diapers when Purple Rain was released turned their backs on Prince, the more I love him as a fan who has been there since Soft n Wet and never faultered.

I guess I would be a 9 out of 10...just because I don't care about the live boots at all.

Prince is a fascinating piece of work. Always has been, always will be.

Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

I too have been a diehard fan since Soft & Wet. I rate myself an 11 until he became a JW. I think he lost his freakin' mind but I'm still here waiting for him to wake the fuck up. evillol

I have every released album, soundboard live recording, some audience and studio bootlegs
I travel across Europe to see his concerts, if he's not playing in Belgium
Every playlist I make, for every occasion has a prince song in it

Everyone I know, knows how much I like his music

BUT

I hate 3121, planet earth, his late announcements of concerts, promises that he can't keep (Extralovable 20 minute version? 20ten Deluxe?, ...), his Jehova shit, too many covers on live shows, Shelby J on live shows, his vault, the stupid things he says like: "the song 'the divine' is too good to put on my album", "chemtrails", "contracts are bad", playing short shows in Montreux for €130 a piece with almost the same fucking setlist, and most of his interviews.

So far, no one was able to answer my previous question (and even less, the OP).

Maybe 8.

I'm nearly 32 and I've listened to about 5000 records in my life. I've also been involved in music genres that are as far removed from Prince's type of pop / funk stuff as possible. I don't think I am that interested in his persona and can't really relate to his world view, but I just love his music. I could easily recall all the songs in correct order from his official records if asked to, which I don't think I could do in the case of any other artist. I have pretty much every bootleg outtake out there and I've played them so much over the years it's silly. Prince's music has been a part of my life for 18-19 years and I think his music fits whatever mood I happen to be in.

I still get those moments when I am speaking about Prince to someone and realize I'm probably embarrassing myself by revealing how much I am into his stuff. lol

After coming here, I became less on the fan scale than I previously was. A lot of it had nothing to do with Prince or his music but from seeing how a lot of his other fans are which I had never encountered until joining this site. I ran into people on this site that are absolutely obsessed with Prince who think that Prince has absolutely no flaws whatsoever both musically or personally and I had just never been around loony toons like that before. It made me stand back and take a look at myself because I used to give Prince "passes" on particular things also but never to the extent that they do. It helped me to put things more into perspective because I didn't ever want to become as loony as they are.

Hard 2 say, possibly impossible, because 2 be honest im not even sure of my level as fan, i mean i really love his music, and i find him very interesting as a person. but ive never been the kind of person to camp out for a show, get a love symbol tattoo, drive pass paisley park a billion times, are make an idiot out of myself @ a show 2 gain his attention. but musically im obsessed, i can talk about my appreciation 4 the man all day, i jus dont fit the fanatics persona however

I'll say 7/10 maybe, im sure my family would say 8/10 and my friends/coworkers would say 6/10, so 7 is about right i guess

Funny, I thought you were going to say you became less of a fan because of the haters on this site. Happened to me...until I realized some people just like to hear themselves whine out loud. And yes, there are those who won't criticize him at all. I don't criticize him personally. Because I don't know him personally. And he's never done me any harm - and to be fair I don't bitch about people who have done me harm(and there are plenty of them), I confront their lame ass to their face.

Do I love every album, every song or every movie? Not even close(I still can't watch Graffiti Bridge without cringing at the awful background). But I do love a lot of, or even most of what he's produced, written, and performed. I've seen him live over 50 times, and I can only remember 2 or 3 bad shows -mostly because of where I was sitting, but one time it seemed like he was really pissed off. But either way I know he's got that thing that 99% of artists strive to achieve, to convey, to inspire...and he pours his heart and soul into everything he produces. That's all I ask of any artist.

That's difficult to answer.

I listened to Prince from Purple Rain to Diamonds and Pearls but didn't have Come which I think was earlier. I was a music listener, not "fan fan" I saw him once in concert and I had one video.

Then I left commercial chart music and returned to Prince for a brief few months in 2007, just listening to my old 5 cd collection. I found a black screen, on 3121 I think it was. I didn't do any real Prince research though, i.e. new albums etc or the org.

Then in 2009 August I bought a stack of cds and now have 23. I also about 3 dvds. So a lot of his old output is "new" for me. Since then, I've seen him twice in concert. If he came to town again, I'd go of course.

I'm probably now, more than a casual fan but if I compare myself to other hardcore or big fans, then I'm just casual. I'm interested in the music, lyrics and the person behind the music. But who he's collaborated with, when, where and how is not important to me. I like the basic facts not the detail.

I have listened to some bootlegs but barely the tip of the iceberg. I mostly just don't like the quality and also I don't need to hear every song in 20 different versions. I generally like the album version and some in concert, yes. I like to watch recent snippets of concerts but I get them delivered via my settings so don't often have to search.

I dig to see live performances on tv and am happy and excited if something new comes out.

He is, I must admit, the only artist I follow and that is because despite the gap in between my listening periods, I have a great respect for what he has added to my musical enjoyment. But hardcore? Never, it's just not in my personality or character to follow anyone to that degree.
