Throughout the late 80's, every wedding do I went to, there would be my Aunty Margaret on the dancefloor, having drunk too many G&T's. She'd do that odd leg rub dance that accompanies Wig Wam Bam, did all the actions to Agadoo & then when Housequake was inevitably played*, she'd adopt Cat's trademark stance and perform the titquake movement for the happy couple. Happy days.

*this never happened.

falloff I think we went to the same wedding receptions back then lol

It wasn't the Twist - It didn't exist outside of Prince world.

Lol, this is so true.

The only copying I remember doing in the 80s as a teenager was trying to do the Girls and Boys dance a lot, walking around dressing like him from Mountains, with the wide brim hat(that kept on blowning off my head) and outfit, looking like a complete twat.

You wore the wide brim hat??

hah!

I know I know lol makes me shudder with embarrassment. Prince looked hot I definitely did not. shake

Well, here in France, in the south, people have been doing the Horny Pony, or le "poney en chaleur" for years.

I remember once, about two years ago, I was on holiday just outside of Pau and a group of high school students were doing it in the school yard.

First they had to kiss their enemies like they knew they should and then they would jerk their body just like a "poney en chaleur" would.

This was followed some some "buckin" pf their body and some "turnin' around".

It was a lovely scene

Articles of this dance being popular. biggrin

I said what IF the dance was popular in the UK etc... They could've been doing the dance in the night clubs or something. We wouldn't know.

I'm tickling 37 and although I was only 13 or 14 at the time, I had my head heavily lodged up his purple arse and I can tell you for free, the dance was not big 'at all' in the UK. To be honest, most non prince fans don't even know the song. The actual fans mainly wouldn't be seen dead dancing such a crap dance, if you could even call it that. Iwas just a teenager, and it looked really lame, even back in the day. I reckon even Prince knows that, so he usually just gets everyone to jump up and down to it these days. Far better idea lol

I'm nearing 38, no Prince dances have really been a craze. I did try copying some stuff in my bedroom, never in public.

In my opinion, Prince's dance moves are amazing, but only when he does them.

Spinlight said: Wait, your only 28, how would you know?

Well, I'm 40 - so I'll back him up. No.

I would say the same amount of people were doing the Housequake as were the BatDance, or that Thieves in the Temple Dance, etc. zero.

But I don't think starting a dance craze was Prince's intention.

Come to think of it - I do remember Bono saying something publicly positive about the Housequake, so maybe he was doing it. I'll correct my earlier statement - 1 person.

HA falloff I just imagined how that would go down at a party and can't stop laughing!

.......Oh-oh-oh, by the way...He plays guitar.

I've been a Prince fan my entire life and never met anyone in the world who even knew the track "Housequake". I never knew the dance until Prince started touring the States in the 90's.

The Housequake

Horny Pony

The Detroit Crawl

The Oak Tree

That "Parade" Concert Wooden Leg Dance (name completely escapes me at the moment)

The dance Morris and The Time did (and even Janet did)

And any dance The Game Boyz did...

etc...

All VERY popular dances.

As a matter of fact, any time a Prince song comes on...

you know that scene in "13 Going on 30" at the dance?

Yeah. That's how popular they were if you were to do them now.

bored2

Honestly, though, 95% of those dances were showmanship, plain and simple.

Maybe an ATTEMPT to create a new dance, but the "pimpness" of it all was meant for either the stage or for the select clique and fans who dug it. Not meant for mass public display. If everyone did it, it wouldn't be "cool".

Example: can you picture Prince trying to moonwalk or pop-lock? Exactly. biggrin
