hhhhhdmt you mention on another thread that you have been into prince's music for a year and a half, so how can you tell me anything about prince and his music? i been following his career since 45 of soft and wet came out in 78. This information about prince and the band contribution to his music is not new information. prince is able to tackle different genres of music because of certain musicians in his band. do you honestly think that the under the cherry moon soundtrack would be a classic without eric leeds matt blistan, and wendy and lisa who brought a jazz and pop flavour to the group.

thats it, power fantastic. Did she claim to write when doves cry, lrc , adore or anything else? go on, provide some examples of wendy and lisa claiming prince "stole" from them
Prince can do different style because:
1. he has a versatile voice 2. He plays many instruments
fact is he has written 99 percent of his best songs by himself
I can tell you plenty of things about prince's music. My opinion is certainly more vald than someone who thinks bobby brown was better than prince.. You simply cannot handle the fact that his band had nothing to do with actually writing most of his songs, that he has written them by himself.
Anyone who claims that it was his father who wrote "most" of the music on purple rain and parade is an obvious troll since it was P who wrote it himself. His band members have always been credited for the songs they co wrote. You will never hear any of them claiming to have written or co written his best songs because they didnt.
Anyone who claims all prince can do is watered down funk, well his/her opinion shouldnt be taken seriously. You have repeatedly lied in these two threads about numerous things such as his father writing "most" of the material on the two albums, and so on. You're just a hater who simply cannot handle that he has written most of his best songs by himself and that he is widely regarded as a genius by music critics. Nothing you will say will ever change that.

and yes, eric leeds brought in a jazz flavour and he deserves credit for that. It doesnt change the fact that prince has written 99 percent of his best songd without anyone else's help

yep... Hey... | |
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
hmmm 99% of his best songs. What songs are those? Because if Kiss is 1 that messes up your whole arguement. Point is a large number of his songs and best songs also were a collaboration.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
i meant in terms of writing a song. Most artists use studio musicians, that doesnt mean the studio musicians actually helped write the song. Kiss isnt #1.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
again, I don't think we fully know who actually helped or collaborated on which songs that we call hits. Like Susannah co-wrote and collaborated with Prince on a good number of songs as well. Cat & Sheila too 4 the Black album & Lovesexy. If you wrote 5 lines and I wrote 1 does that count? Writing music versus actually creating the music. The Revolution did a lot of that with Prince as far as actually taking part in the creation of the music. Lisa created Power Fantastic, Prince wrote the lyrics. Prince did more studio jam times/creative process with the 1999-Lovesexy bands. Jill Jones also wrote a lot with Prince especially for her album

Was he jealous of Wendy and Lisa? I doubt it. Did his songwriting decline when he no longer had any serious collaborators to push him to a higher level? Well, take a look at the poll results from earlier in the week:

Seems like the albums that were at least partially written when he had Lisa in his band dominate the top of the list. (Note that I didn't say "Wendy and Lisa.") Sure, he's written some great material since then, but nothing to match his output from 1980 to 1986. And this is a poll of the org, not casual fans or critics.
The Census Bureau estimates that there are 2,518 American Indians and Alaska Natives currently living in the city of Long Beach.

You asked for an example and I gave you one. I can't help it that you are denying reality. To a lot of people "Power Fantastic" is one of his very best songs, it would have been nice if his ego had allowed him to give credit to the people that wrote it.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
i am not in denial about anything. Jackson35 is which is why he keeps accusing prince for "stealing" from wendy and lisa despite the fact that he wrote most of it himself. Yes they should have gotten credit for power fantastic. Thats still one song and doesnt change anything about the rest of them.

if prince wrote all of the hit songs then why are his former bandmember say that he did not properly credit their contribution to his music. wendy melvoin says that she contribute a keyboard line for computer blue and she got co composer credit, yet he took the credit for the guitar solo for when doves cry and that really wendy killing that solo in the studio.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Wendy is listed as one of the co writers for computer blue and it was prince killing that solo, wendy was good but she couldnt play like prince Besides name me which band member claimed to have written or co written which hit song? Please go on.

Why are you so fixated on "hit songs?" "Hit songs" are only a very tiny portion of his output and I suspect that at this point most of us are a little tired of him playing the same fifteen or so songs on every tour since Musicology.

omg I really feel like we should hunt down Maytiana and slap her for starting this stupid thread.
Where does she live?? | |
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I never heard about Wendy as the guitar soloist on When Doves Cry(studio) Yes she did kill the solo live though.
Computer Blue has Prince & Wendy heavy on the guitars. The opening guitar we hear is by Wendy on CB

the issue of who did what on a prince album was always debated back then when prince was at his peak. prince's father was on a talk show called a current affair hosted by maury povich and he stated that father song and purple rain was his song and not prince's song. he played the demos of the song on the air and he played both songs on the piano live to indicate that he was the author of these songs.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
once again you're repeating nonsense. Prince is the author of these songs. Prince has written most of his hits by himself. Wendy and Lisa have never claimed to have written or co written his hits, and they were given credit when they deserved except "power fantastic". You simply cannot handle the truth so you make things up. His band were good musicians, not great musicians like prince and they had nothing to do with most of his work. Nor do they claim they did.
Then again this is coming from someone who claims "most" of the purple rain and parade were written by prince father (a balant lie) and wendy was the soloist for the stuidio version of when doves cry. Comical stuff jackson35. There is no debate here except that you are making things up

They weren't a band with Prince just happening to be the frontman, it wasn't The Revolution, it was Prince AND the Revoltion. Wendy and Lisa were employees.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
The When Doves Cry thing is especially comical, because the story's been for ages about how Prince recorded the song in a night after Albert Magnoli told him he needed an emotional song.
There's also stories from bandmates like Fink about how he recorded it overnight and asked him where the bassline was because he had taken it out. JERKIN' EVERYTHING IN SIGHT!!!!!
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Actually, Purple Rain is based on Father's Song and John L is the composer of Father's Song.
And, in fact, W&L griped about the fact they had worked so much on the Sign o the Times material and Prince didn't release the album as a Revolution project despite most of the material being recorded while the band was together.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
fair enough. But wendy and lisa have not actually claimed to writing any of the 13 songs on sign of the times where prince is listed as a writer. The other three songs (which were co written) had the co writers name on it.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I don't think any of them were going to claim anything. No matter what they may have written co-written added etc They and others did parts to songs and lyrics for a lot of the 1986 music especially:the Flesh, Dream Factory Crystal Ball etc... fact is we know Prince during the Controversy-Parade/Dream Factory & Black album-Lovesexy had the band at his home studio the warehouse and just long late into the night creating and rehearsing and jamming of music and songs. The band members were not trying to steal Prince's spotlight. Like when I listen to the studio rehearsing of Screams of Passion w/the Revolution, the band is following Prince's basic foundation for the songs but coming up with pieces and musical lines as expected. No different than when Prince created the basic of Kiss and David Z & Mazarati took it and added their own pieces. [Edited 4/26/11 17:05pm]

i agree that wendy and lisa wrote some magical songs with prince and added bits and pieces and deserve alot of credit for that. But its trolls like jackson35 that are irrating and who claim that wendy and lisa co wrote or wrote most/all of his best songs in the 80's, which is simply not true since he wrote them himself.

Even W&L are laughing at the silly comments by Jacka@s35.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Yep, some jealousy, probably (we're talking about Prince, a truly flawed human being), but also because, possibly, he didn't want to spend the rest of his career with the Revolution or W&L, just as Bowie got tired of the Spiders quickly...
Things like the BlackAlbum, half of SOTT, LoveSymbol, TGE or TRC would have never happened with the Revolution...
| |
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Right, none of the Revolution members claim that they did either. They all believed in Prince and his vision and worked in the place they were in. That's why even visually they just caused Prince to shine. They & the proteges reflected Prince well.
