Remember, Prince was criticized by the black community for playing music that was too white. It was bullshit, but he responded to it.

In the end, Prince makes everybody better, even Wendy and Lisa. They never made their own music that was as good as the stuff they made with Prince.

Prince might have been jealous of Lisa and Wendy. Who knows what was going on in his wacky mind at the time. However, he had no reason to be. Wendy and Lisa had the biggest impact on Prince's music. Their imprint is all over Parade and Around the World in a Day. Nevertheless, to say he owed his success to them and was a shell of his former self when they left is wrong and revisionist.

Every artist has a creative arc if you will. Prince was hitting stride with Controversy and 1999-- many including myself would argue this as his greatest album-- with minimal to no W&L input. Then came Purple Rain which put him on the map worldwide. Prince knew what he was doing when he put that band together. To that end he probably wanted them more for image than he did for musical input. He probably got more than he bargained for with W&L in the process. ATWIAD was a step or two down from PR, like it or not. Parade and SOTT are artistically on par with PR and 1999. Then from there you get peaks and valleys up until the present.

A man in his mid to late twenties is usually at his creative peak as an artist-- Prince was no exception. It's a time when life experiences, drive, and proficiency in technique usually come together. Wendy and Lisa were there at the right time but had it been anybody else we probably wouldn't get work on par with All My Dreams and Power Fantastic. So, in that respect giving the girls their due credit doesn't detract from Prince's unless one were under the illusions that Prince was/is a god. God, or circumstances, brought them all together and in a design that goes beyond one man, great music was made.

A lot of people in his camp claim that not everything that we hear that comes out a prince record was composed and perform by him. So if you want to call people names call them a troll not me.
