Do you think Prince should or will ever make another major motion picture? And no, although he was supposed to release a 3121 documentary I mean a movie. Do you think he has it within his interest to actually find the actors, create a decent storyline, and release something that can and will be well recieved. Or after Graffiti Bridge did he shut the door on making films all around? your thoughts..

If he did, it would just be way too preachy... and I couldn't handle that!

If he did it probably wouldn't make any sense.

No and no. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I knew I'd get that answer eventually To Sir, with Love

I should qualify that to say that I think he could do another concert film successfully. But something on the order of Purple Rain? I'm afraid those birds have flown. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Exactly that.

Only if it´s something very, VERY unusual....some kind of movie where he´s neither vain nor preachy, something totally unexpected. And it would have to be a movie that is totally unrelated to Prince, his music, his stage persona, his past and his band. And it would have to be a movie that is directed by someone else, and of course written by someone else. He should´ve done a movie with Quentin Tarantino when Tarantino was still cool. Either a Tarantino flick starring Sylvester Stallone and Prince or maybe some kind of deep drama by some underground cult director. Or maybe a Jim Jarmush movie. These days, I could imagine him in a cameo in some Spike Lee movie, but other than that, I think he´s burned too many bridges. I don´t think that he isn´t talented enough because there are far worse "actors" out there, untrained and making shitloads of money, and also because I know he is a very determined person with a very strong work ethic, and I believe that the right director could create a decent movie with Prince. Don´t forget that he´s a film afficionado. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

Exactly. Maybe even like Rattle and Hum or Truth or Dare. "New Power slide...."

yes, with a good director in control of editing interview clips mingled with concert footage
that is a guaranteed hit. My Legacy

Did anybody else see Listen Up!, the Quincy Jones documentary that came out in the early 90's? Something like that'd be so awesome...
[edit: or something like Chuck Berry's Hail! Hail! Rock & Roll would be great, too] [Edited 3/21/11 15:54pm]

I started a thread like this a long time ago. I said if he never makes another film again then I'm fine with that. But if he should decide to then I would totally see it. NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

I think he should do a starring role or maybe cameo appearance in a movie. Play something out of his character. Not another The kid role.

Well, if I can recall the interview he did with EBONY magazine last year he did say that he wouldn't mind playing in another biopic about the great Little Richard. NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

If he was to do another film, it should be more "Sign of the Time" and less "Graffiti Bridge or UTCM". Sorry, but Prince needs direction (oops guidance) and as we know he is not the one to accept either. Therefore, in my opinion, he should do only "concert" films. Like some of the above comments, the possibility of him doing another movie that equals PR is very unlikely. The only way that would happen would be to re-release Purple Rain in either it's original or better yet, uncut form. And I don't see neither of the above happening.

lolz him doing another UTCM now would just be scary.
Mary: "Christopher, do you love me?" Christopher: "Mary the only love I feel is the love for the almighty Jehovah. Let's do the bump while I play piano, the music business is corrupt and will die soon, everybody needs spirituality why don't you find some?" time flies.

I would tend to agree with G, but with the right director and script. We could have a comeback film featuring a musician who was down on his luck and finds success again (fictional). But would Prince give up control?-probably not. 99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

I say yes, so I can actually be around to see it in the movie theater. I'm sure it would be good with the right script, music and director. First concert: January 18, 2011 & then February 7, 2011 at MSG. Best concerts of my life.

What about that rumor from a few months ago, about a new Purple Rain sequel? Pure bullshit i guess? A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

I wonder how much the movie-making process impacted on Prince's output around the time of his films, particularly PR and UTCM.
Does being involved in a larger creative project inspire Prince in a way that simply recording for an album does not?
Or are albums like PR and Parade more a product of where Prince was in that time period, rather than anything to do with the movies they are connected to?
For Purple Rain, if I understand the history correctly, he presented 100 (?) songs to the director to choose from, and still several of the songs, including PR and WDC, were not on that list (wasn't WDC written overnight to suit the montage?)
If he was working with a director whom he trusted and who understood his music, is this a way for his music to be focused and "sifted", so to speak, without needing to directly involve a record company again?
Then you've got Parade, which is an amazing album, supporting a movie that was a lot more controlled by Prince than PR, suggesting that perhaps the outside parties are not as essential as the overall creative process itself.
I guess what I'm saying is that I'd totally support the idea of him doing another movie, regardless of the quality of the flick itself, because the potential by-product is a much tighter, more inspired concept album.
(Don't bother pointing out the graffiti elephant in the room - it doesn't help my case much so I'm choosing to ignore it for the purpose of a little afternoon musing )

I say a reboot of the movie: "Crossroads" w/ a better script. Prince would be playing the role of Jack Butler. It would be a movie where he wouldn't have to act much as it would be a cameo part, play a role none would expect since it would be on the side of the Devil, & showcase his guitar skills to solidify his legacy on the instrument.
