I think it would be cool and totally feasible for Prince to make a cameo in a movie like the upcoming AVENGERS movie. There could be some sort of superhero celebration scene and Prince and his band could be the entertainment. Kind of like how DJ AM was in Iron Man 2.

Or Prince could star in some artsy movies the way David Bowie now does.

I wouldn't mind seeing Prince make a cameo appearance in a movie, but it would have to be brief as well as an important small part. As far as him making a movie as the star, no way! Those days are long gone. I wouldn't mind some kind of documentary, but I highly doubt he would do that either.

If he was to do another film, it should be more "Sign of the Time" and less "Graffiti Bridge or UTCM".

Sorry, but Prince needs direction (oops guidance) and as we know he is not the one to accept either. Therefore, in my opinion, he should do only "concert" films. Like some of the above comments, the possibility of him doing another movie that equals PR is very unlikely. The only way that would happen would be to re-release Purple Rain in either it's original or better yet, uncut form. And I don't see neither of the above happening.

lolz him doing another UTCM now would just be scary.

Christopher: "Mary the only love I feel is the love for the almighty Jehovah. Let's do the bump while I play piano, the music business is corrupt and will die soon, everybody needs spirituality why don't you find some?"

I wonder how much the movie-making process impacted on Prince's output around the time of his films, particularly PR and UTCM.

Does being involved in a larger creative project inspire Prince in a way that simply recording for an album does not?

Or are albums like PR and Parade more a product of where Prince was in that time period, rather than anything to do with the movies they are connected to?

For Purple Rain, if I understand the history correctly, he presented 100 (?) songs to the director to choose from, and still several of the songs, including PR and WDC, were not on that list (wasn't WDC written overnight to suit the montage?)

If he was working with a director whom he trusted and who understood his music, is this a way for his music to be focused and "sifted", so to speak, without needing to directly involve a record company again?

Then you've got Parade, which is an amazing album, supporting a movie that was a lot more controlled by Prince than PR, suggesting that perhaps the outside parties are not as essential as the overall creative process itself.

I guess what I'm saying is that I'd totally support the idea of him doing another movie, regardless of the quality of the flick itself, because the potential by-product is a much tighter, more inspired concept album.

(Don't bother pointing out the graffiti elephant in the room - it doesn't help my case much so I'm choosing to ignore it for the purpose of a little afternoon musing razz)

[Edited 3/21/11 22:10pm]

I never really understood nor did I really believe what Albert Magnoli said in that DVD bonus interview because, as far as I know, there weren´t really 100 songs to choose from, so I don´t know what Albert Magnoli listened to,really. Bobby Z. was once interviewed by Uptown magazine, and when the interviewer asked him about outtakes from the Purple Rain era other than the usual ones that we´re so familiar with (Wednesday, G-Spot, Electric Intercourse), Bobby replied that there weren´t really THAT many other songs simply because they were so busy shooting the movie, learning their dance moves and taking acting lessons.

Maybe Al is right and maybe he was given a tape with 100 songs but, according to Bobby, they didn´t have much more than we already know.

You mention Parade and UTCM , the album´s greatness and the whole creative process but remember what Prince said back then when the album came out...he felt it was too rushed and that there wasn´t really a lot of strong material on the album, and that he needed to take more time for his next album. Of course, this was just Prince´s opinion at the time and it doesn´t take away one bit from the greatness that is the Parade album but, I´m just saying, he didn´t really consider it a great album back then, and he only liked a couple of songs on it when it came out.

And we all know how he felt about Under The Cherry Moon. And if you don´t , you just have to read DMSR by Per Nielsen.

Personally, I really, really like both ...the album and the movie.

Oh dear god no, it would be all preachy and boring rather than the vanity/self indulgence flop we all expecting. It would be called "Prince brings u the luv of Jehovah" and all he would do it is read passages of the Book of Jehovah, Watch Tower magazine articles, and to make it exciting a few snippets of a rehearsal or jam session. In fact it would be straight to DVD.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

And no, although he was supposed to release a 3121 documentary I mean a movie. Do you think he has it within his interest to actually find the actors, create a decent storyline, and release something that can and will be well recieved. Or after Graffiti Bridge did he shut the door on making films all around? your thoughts..

I think he should do a starring role or maybe cameo appearance in a movie. Play something out of his character. Not another The kid role.

I think instead of the kid role it would be "the old man."

Instead of Purple Rain it would be Purple Sunrise

The Old Man aka the Kid inherits First Avenue from Billy. He never makes the stardom he wanted and works with two new revial groups who remind him of himself and the Time.

Like in GB Morris Day owns a chain of revial clubs that is more commerical driven and sucessful.

The Old Man lets unique original groups perform as his club struggles to survive.

He married apollonia, the divorced and after the angel died in GB he became gay.

Somewhere towards the end he brings back the revolution to capture the magic they had made 30 years early.

I think he should stick to making music. He couldn't play anyone outside of himself, so the whole Little Richard biopic should be left alone. Anywhere, Leon did it already and he did it well. That, imo, would be the equivalent of remaking Purple Rain and having Trey Songz as the "The Kid". confused

I like where Muskiediver was going. But pretend like GB never happened (that really wasn't a sequel anyway folks. Prince just played it that way to get it made) But where Muskie is wrong is saying the kid never had success. The next film should b a PR sequel where the Kid did have success and now he is a has been. He lives in L.A. now and is a recluse that hasn't made an album in ten years. A young woman comes to L.A. with a dream to work with him and makes it her mission to find him. She makes it into his LA mansion (Hi, Ke$ha!) but gets booted out by body guards. But not before leaving her demo. Act 1 ends with her being led out of his pad while camera holds on the tape she left on his coffee table. We see a bony, guitar fingered hand enter frame. We know it's the Kid's. He picks it up as camera reveals The Kid. He had aged gracefully and looks amazing. He smiles and considers her as she leaves. Cut. That's all u get til u see the finished film.

I'm trying to come up with a concept here. Because I actually would love to see dude in a movie again.

This one's pretty cheesy and I kinda can't believe I'm writing this. But here it is: He and his band are doing a benefit show in Africa, way deep in the bush. Part of getting the entourage there is a journey of a few days by bus. Lots of philosophizing, pretty birds and waterfalls, and some adventure (bus breakdown, dealing with locals, maybe some rogues causing trouble, elephants in the road sort of stuff). Successful music guy from the states in his fancy suits gets a little dirty and finds himself again. Epic, right?

I'm thinking Purple Rain meets Steve Zissou. Even though it sounds more like Snow Dogs.

I would LOVE to see Prince do a type of documentary. Of course, have it produced and directed by someone else. Have it with full access to his daily routines when he is not touring. Going into the studio, rehearsing and creating new songs. No silly scenarios or silly cameo's of other celebrities. Just Prince being Prince... and no following him to the church. He would most likely lose even more fams if he did that.

Any movie by Prince would most likely not be succesful. When we were younger and Purple Rain came out it was an entirely different time than now... kids want to see Bieber or Lady Gag... why, I can't tell you... but people would not understand that new Prince.

Wait - didn't he already try to do the documentary thing with Kevin Smith?

And that turned into him pretty much trying to control everything, like he tends to do.

FAIL

We will never get to see Prince the real guy.

We may get concert footage, but it will only be of Prince the performer.

I like his persona on stage much better anyways.

Give me a new (good) album, a tour where he isn't just playing his oldies but goodies, and then a Sign of the Time type DVD release of it.

RETURN TO GRAFFITI BRIDGE

after prince wins morris days club, morris disappears into a life of booze and hookers, prince becomes obsessed with owning the town and its people and buys several more clubs. soon his songs are no longer filled with poetry and love, but instead take on morris personality of a playboy egomaniac who confuses his women with his wealth. his fans still come see him but slowly one by one disillusionment sets in and they see prince for the shallow materialistic vain man he has become. he finds himself in his fathers purple rain mode, love sick crazy, depressed, and abusive and lonely. no one digs his music anymore, no one buys his records, he comes up with clever schemes to capitalize on the "prince" brand by getting advances and giving away his music in newspapers, but with such poor product even these methods are no longer available. he has totally run the prince name into the ground where even his die hard fans cant be bothered. eventually his unpaid bills catch up to him, he tries to pull off one more "hits" tour to save his lifestyle but no one shows up. one day instead of his usual 6 painkillers, he takes 12, hoping for inspiration and a hit record, instead he over doses and ends up in the hospital. while there having his stomach pumped he finds morris day is in the same hospital from his hard partying and a bad accident as a result. he doesnt recognize morris but morris recognizes him. prince snubs him and on his way out of the hospital gets hit by a car, breaking both hands and his jaw. apolonia hears about it and visits him in the hospital, she gave up drugs a decade ago and has started an organic farm and land share commune for poor people. prince loses everything left after the accident so when he heals enuf he visits her farm. there as his hands and jaw heal, he realizes that his life has been a shallow delusion of grandure, he begins to write music again. not in a studio but on a farm, with an old acoustic guitar and piano. he falls in love with apolonia and writes his best record ever ... many of the organic vegetable farm hands also play music and together prince and his new friends record a masterpiece on an old analog reel to reel 8 track recorder

the record sells millions thru word of mouth and a simple snail mail address. people trade money, food, arts and crafts, music for a copy. even so millions come in. prince is tempted to take his money and run, maybe buy a big mansion and paint his name so big on the outside a satellite could read it, then he gets news that morris has died, he goes to the funeral and sees all his old school friends, the revolution, etc.. everyone that helped him come up. he starts to tell them his big plan for his big comeback but before the words come out of his mouth he changes his mind and instead tells his story of selfish ego maniacal materialism. he reflects on how lucky he was that so many people helped to the top and how his pompous addiction to wealth and ego led to his downfall .. he writes a huge check to each person there, because most were struggling to feed and house there own families due to his short changing them in the past, he then uses the rest of the money to make food/ art communes all over the world, where poor people can learn to grow food, build homes and make art and music.

this trend catches on and soon people all over the world walk away from their jobs of selling hookers and weapons, they turn of their tvs and and their computers and their cellphones, they stop fighting for oil and power, they stop romanticizing murder, every poor person is fed so there is no more violence, no police, everyone eats real food, organic fruits, vegetables and grains, and are no longer cracked out on drugs there doctor scared them into taking because they arent sick from the meat, dairy and drug industries. those who once worked on building atom bombs and stealth bombers now work toward developing sustainable social structures that ensure health warmth, food and mental sanity. egypt has water routed, the pyramids become the free energy source they were designed to be and prince and apalonia have 7 kids who grow up playing in the sunshine.

yay!

I think he should get into making an animated feature film or an animated miniseries.

Filming the "Welcome 2 America" shows in 3D for theatrical release, and maybe incorporate rehearsal footage & interviews into it.

I don't see him doing movies unless he's appearing as Prince, or in a supporting role. I can think of 4 or 5 singers who took on small/supporting roles and it worked in their favor.

Thank you. I'm definitely on to something with this. I'd write it on spec (for a WAG minimum advance) if Prince was serious about making it. I think it would be huge. I didn't say Prince was a has-been btw, I said The Kid (the PR character) was a has-been--In the world of the movie. The movie would assume that Purple Rain the album was a massive hit for the Kid and then the Kid went into hiding because all the money and fame freaked him out, but he still makes millions from royalties. So he hides out in his L.A. mansion as this legendary recluse, kind of a rocknroll Willie Wonka. The Kesha reference was from a story she actually told about breaking into Prince's house. But the character of the girl would have to be a talented knock out of a female if she is going to be in the film.

Prince if your reading this, we got a hit here. You write the music, I'll write the script. (I might just write it on spec anyway as an excercise. It would be a labor of love.)

I wish u heaven
