Tom Jones ruined Kiss for me for years, but it's a great track, the entire album is just brilliant...but it's all about Mountains, Anotherloverholeinyohead and Girls and Boys for me...fantastic stuff!

OMG!! NPG vandals polluting the org.

For what it's worth here is my opinion in brief..
PARADE is so much more than ONE album.. it's about an era in time that was more than just one mere record.
It was artwork, concert, 12 inches, b sides and anything extra and so much more inbetween.
I never actually went to the Parade tour, I was only just getting into Prince at the time and that amounted to knowing the song Kiss. But over time I have come to idlise that era more and more.
Try watching the Under The Cherry Moon Premiere, or listening to the 12 inch version of Mountains..
Get some records so that you can properly look at the beautiful artwork. Maybe feeling like you were there at the time will give you a connection to the album. For me it has.
It's funny though because if Prince plays Mountains in his concert these days the reaction is always so much more muted than it is to a song like Peach. That always upsets me but I guess it just shows how old the album is and that some Prince fans or people just going along to the concert might not even know it?!
Shut up already, damn. | |

EVERYTHING WAS GREAT ABOUT PARADE!!!! SERIOUSLY, WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU?!!!
It still sounds like nothing else and should be in Prince's top 5 best albums. NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

I think Parade is a great album, but very difficult to get into on the first listen. The first couple of tracks are far from commercial. To full appreciate the whole Parade period, it's worth obtaining the extended versions of mountains and Anotherlover... they are amazing. Then pehaps throw in the full version of Love or Money. Then have another listen.
What I like about that album is that after the curveball of Around The World in a Day, prince didn't listen to critics who wanted him to go back to the Purple Rain sound. Parade was a very brave album considering.
