To me it is the most sophisticated Prince album. To me it comes off as the "high end" Prince Album.

Experimental, funky, and sophisticated. Like "fine art" of pop music.

And it's not just just the music and production that feels like something special, but everything about it. The fonts, the photography, the art direction.

I totally agree. Parade is my favorite Prince album because of that element of sophistication meets pop. Also, it is such a coherent album. The progression of the songs really makes sense. He really outdid himself on that one. He also reinvents himself and forces his audience to see him in a way they have never seen him before--both musically and physically.

Actually, I do agree that Kiss is not the best song on the album. Though it is outstanding and certainly progressive for its time, there are several songs that I like better. My favorite is Anotherlover...I also love Venus de Milo, Do U lie, I Wonder U. Sometimes it Snows in April is very beautiful also, and would be my favorite track except that it actually makes me sad upon listening to it, which is not my favorite emotion.

I don't know that age has much to do with whether or not one likes this album. This has been my favorite Prince album since I was 8-years-old. It is unlike anything he has ever done, and yet it is simply brilliant.

I do have to add the disclaimer that though Parade is my favorite album, SOTT is his best ever. Just my opinion though.

Do this:

Arrange to be in Wisconsin on the first perfectly warm, totally sunny, just-slightly-breezy day in the spring. At noon, get in your car, open the sunroof, slip Parade into the CD player, and drive Highway 23 between Dodgeville and Spring Green. (The prettiest drive in the state - one that takes you past the home of Frank Lloyd Wright.)

I have done this every spring for the last 15 years. It never gets old - and it has solidified Parade as my favorite Prince album ever.

That sounds lovely. I think I'm going to try that!

And that's the truth. I think some orgers have gone to some length to explain exactly why this album is indeed a fucking masterpiece. But if you dont dig it, you dont I guess. That's okay but I think you are missing out.

I think Kiss is absolutely fantastic, one of the gems of the disk. It just suffers from the same condition of taking for granted things that we have, enjoy, and consume on a regular basis.

Everything about Parade is wonderful! Its a total total trip, on a whole other level, and fits into many music genres. A playful time too, as evident in many of the concert footage from that era. Oh how I love that CD. Time to revisit and give it another spin!

I had to get used to Parade, I am liking it more and more each time. It took me like 4 times to like Anotherloverholenyohead. Best songs on that album for me are - Sometimes it snows in april, I wonder U, Girls & boys, Christopher Tracy's parade, and Life can be so nice :)and mountains ! lol.

While there are many reasons to love Parade, I think the song that sums it up for me is "Do U Lie?"

This song, IMHO, perfectly represents what so many other orgers are recommending - top down, spring day, Parade on loud in the deck. The first time I heard Do You Lie, I was both in love and WTF? at the same moment. All I could think of was Paris in springtime and how versatile and ballsy Prince was.

Parade is whimsical, strange and saucy with bad ass funk layered just below the service - not in your face like some of his big hits, but there all the same. And did I mention the style?

The differentiation in the sound themes of different tracks is quite unusual. You can listen to the songs indivdually on their own at different times and they still sound great. But if you keep them together, they seem to be a series of waves, that by nature, must follow each other, one after the other.

And u can only really do them from Controversy - Batman, because you have the protege bands, and most outtakes from this time period

I love doing 1 for the 1st 3 album + his outtakes and pre 4 U music like Leaving 4 NY

But I love you collage cover & the Paisley Park logo

This is what makes Parade tolerable for me!! Hmm, Hmm, Hmm, Prince is/was one fine man. Love the Kiss video, and that song is too funky, one of his best!!! Other than Kiss, I really could do w/o the album. Well, I do like CT Parade and SISIA, but the album just still hasn't "got me" yet..

Parade, as released, is a very unsatisfying album to me. I can't explain what it is, but some of the tracks just leave me cold. I am another of the Org's playlist geeks, so I decided to make my own configuration, which I vastly prefer to the released version. That said, I still wouldn't put either version in my Top Ten Prince albums.

Prince and the Revolution - Under the Cherry Moon

1. Girls and Boys (version from Work it 2.0 with clean ending - no segue into Life Can Be So Nice)

2. New Position (doubled to create a longer track)

3. heart or $ (Extended Version)

4. Alexia de Paris (Extended Version)

5. Under the Cherry Moon (abum version)

6. Mountains (12" version)

7. Kiss (album version)

8. Anotherlover... (12" version)

9. naM tsenoH nA (segue - "An Honest Man" from Crystal Ball, played backwards)

10. Old Friends 4 Sale (original version)

11. Sometimes It Snows In April (album version)

lol I know but Mazarati was a part of it, those songs I picked I really do like

But 100 MPH & Champagne Saturday I know Prince wrote 4 Mazarati

100 MPH has an outtake with Prince on it too ... Just like he styled them

Prince did write some of the song on that album. I think Suzy is one of them too

Those others U put up are the Dream Factory music ... THAT in itself is a playlist lol

I do love 2 listen 2 In A Large Room back 2 back with Life Can Be So Nice

But those 5 I usually keep with my Dream Factory playlist

i think its an ok album, and i dont see why some people put it above all his others. i know everybodys gonna say the best part about it is kiss... but id like to know what else everyone loves about it so much? its just such an odd sounding album to me. maybe thats whats so appealing to everyone?

and kiss makes me cringe eek

but then again, lots of my favorites seem to be the ones that everyone dislikes the most. so maybe im just weird? is there anybody who actually doesnt like parade? or dare i ask (again..) kiss?

Parade is greater than your parents.
