i saw him on drums, guitar, keybord, piano, violin and i'm not sure, i think i saw him on saxophone.

You have NEVER seen Prince play a violin or saxophone because he doesn't know how to play them.

I've seen him play piano, guitar, drums, Sheila E's bongo (as I call them) drums.

He have played sax on The Love We Make.

and in the music video to Face Down, you can see him pretending to play a violin. Maybhe he can play a violin ? Why not ? He said that he can play on many instruments, sax is popular, so why not sax ?

You forgot bass and organ. You could argue organ is pretty close to piano, but bass guitar is different from guitar IMO.

And that's about all of the real instruments he can play. I mean, if he plays the piano, I'm pretty sure he knows how to play the synthesizer as well. And I don't doubt he has mad cowbell skills, I don't need to see a video to believe that

Eric Leeds has said that Prince can play the sax, although he is not great at it. I'm sure he can play the violin as it is much like the fingering on a guitar(sound nasty, lol). Prince is one of those musicians that can pretty much play any instrument placed in front of him.

the number of instruments prince plays has been dramatically embellished to say the least. he started this himself with the credits on his debut album, it's obvious that he was eager to push the one man band aspect early on but when you're listing 'handclaps and fingasnaps' or however he spelt it, as an instrument it's a bit ridiculous. he also lists each specific model of keys he uses on the record as a separate instrument.

i've witnessed prince playing guitar, piano, bass, drums, assorted keys, percussion and that's it. i've never seen him play harmonica but i can believe he knows his way around it.

as far as someone stating that he should be able to play the violin because he can play guitar, this is apples and oranges. violin and guitar are in no way similar instruments to play. for one thing the violins neck is rounded and completely foreign to that of a guitar, not to mention bowing compared to strumming/picking.

it is my opinion that prince himself helped concoct this myth and continues today to make silly, embellished statements to perpetuate it.

the instruments he can play he plays the living shit out of, there's no taking that away from him.

yeah, i wonder how he'd be on things like stand up bass... doesn't 'old friends for sale' have fretless or stand up bass on it or am i imagining? i know there's a couple tunes on emancipation with fretless but i think it's rhonda... 'dreamin about u' and maybe a couple others. 'sensual everafter' from rainbow children has fretless too i think... i haven't listened to either in a long time so i could be dead wrong.

On For You Prince boasts to have played the wind chimes, the fuzz bazz, Handclapsfingasnaps, woodblocks, the brush trap and the tree bell, so yeah I guess he can play more than 20 instruments.

Besides these, I have seen him play bass many times, various types of synths, hammond organ, harmonica and various types of percussion instruments.

I haven't seen him play violin or cello nor sax or trumpet. I am pretty sure he can play on them, but that he is not really good at it, which is why he doesn't.
