You did, and I feel the same way when I support Prince. I don't mind spending money because I know that he has ALWAYS given back. I also LOVE LOVE LOVE that he supports our children. The $250,000 to Uptown Dance is fantastic as well!

Did anyone see this?

I love this:

"Onto the most exciting part of my evening: I met Prince. I. Met. Prince. I had a conversation with him about varied subjects, inlcuding politics, the music industry, his dedication to the arts and desire to help children of color succeed. His eyes are beautiful. I looked in them. I imagine--and I mean this in all seriousness--that Michael Jackson was trying to attain this same look artificially. He shook my right hand. Something about it seems strange today, as if it is aging backwards. In any case, I have never been more in awe of a man's clothing and hair in my entire life. Everything was impeccable. Please forgive me for my unelaborate sentences. I am still in shock."

one thing tho, well 2...it was not a "tour", he only played at 2 venues (excluding any aftershows). Also 4 shows @ MSG over a 7 week or so period does not make it a "residency".

Just saying.

I'm just glad to hear something positive concerning Prince for a change. One thing I really love about him is that he does stuff like that all the time, he's just low key about it. To me that just shows its truly from the heart. I don't care what no one says about my favorite entertainer. At the end of the day he's a class act.

The thing about it, he only did shows in the NY/NJ areas and it still ended up being "one of the highest, grossing tours in the country" so far. If he continues to keep this concert series under the same name, and decides to take it to other cities within the U.S., imagine how much he would make from it.

Yes Prince, Way to try and save face after your cancelled superbowl concert that was supposed to be for charity. You wanted 1.5 million for a charity concert? Come on, its charity!!! Word is; you cancelled because the ticket sales were too low, and you did not want to be embarrased by the low turnout. Well when you charge from $1500 to $25000 for a charity concert in which only 15% was actually going to go to the charity! And you wanted 1.5 million to be paid for a CHARITY concert plus your long list of ridiculous demands! Then you whine that no one arranged to pick you up at the airport? Well guess what? For charity call a cab!!! People here in the Dallas area know the truth, and soon the truth will spread. It is unusual for you to publicize a donation such as the one for the Harlem Children's Zone. I applaud you for this, but I feel this was a disingenious attempt to save face.

In the future, an apology bare minimum would be nice. Your made up excuses were lame. If its charity; take your medicine and honor your word!!

Sorry I do enjoy Prince's music; but he needs to be held accountable!

Your post will no doubt be followed by several defending Prince's right to get paid for his performance in Dallas, had it occurred. I'm glad he is giving money to these worthy New York charitable organizations. I'd just like to know how much of that $1.5 million he actually got from the Dallas fiasco, if any.

I'd also like to know what Prince makes of this passage from the New Testament (I'm quoting what I take to be the New World Translation, of which he is a fan):

Matthew 6: 1-4. 1. Take good care not to practice YOUR righteousness in front of men in order to be observed by them; otherwise YOU will have no reward with YOUR Father who is in the heavens. 2 Hence when you go making gifts of mercy, do not blow a trumpet ahead of you, just as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be glorified by men. Truly I say to YOU, They are having their reward in full. 3 But you, when making gifts of mercy, do not let your left hand know what your right is doing, 4 that your gifts of mercy may be in secret; then your Father who is looking on in secret will repay you.

Not a JW myself, so I don't know what they make of that one.

Not sure if you're aware of this, but in October, 2010, there was a press conference open to the public, that was held at the Apollo Theatre in NYC, in regards to the W2A concerts where Prince specifically stated donations from those concerts were going to that specific charity (HCZ). So this news was already expected, and there was a special ceremony planned at MSG, before the last MSG concert in NYC on 2/7/11, where members of the 3 organizations were present at the ceremony, as well as, 30 students from the HCZ project. So I doubt this was to "save face" regarding the situation in Dallas, since the announcement held in October, regarding the donations from the W2A concerts, that would be given to the HCZ project (including the other 2 organizations), has nothing to do with the Dallas situation.

Discussion on the Dallas situation took place in this thread on 2/4 on this thread link:

http://prince.org/msg/7/352263

Prince specifically stated during that Press conference, that at the end of the W2A concert series, held in the New York/NJ areas, that his gold guitar would also be auctioned off as well, The Dallas event was announced almost 3 months later, which was set to happen 3 days before the last W2A concert in NYC. I blame the Dallas event fiasco, on the unprofessional handling of it by Chris Arnold and the River Group. Lack of ticket sales should have been the hint that they could not afford to pay those involved, including donations they promised from this event, to the organization and students, they named would be the recipients of the donations, as well as misleading the customers, by not being honest with them, when the low ticket sales was an indication that the event could possibly be cancelled.

I think the New York donations and the Dallas mess are totally unconnected. It would not make any sense for Prince to get paid for "the Event" and then give that money to other charities. I do hope that, if he takes this tour to other cities, he shows a little love for Dallas when he can. One of my friends went to the last MSG show and keeps rubbing it in by posting clips on Facebook. disbelief

There's been more on this thread about the Dallas contract, which paints Prince and his manager in a less favorable light:

I can hear the groans already. Can't we just give Prince his moment of generosity? Why do these annoying Dallas people have to keep harping on what happened there? err

Well, hopefully things work(ed) out for you and you got your refund from "theEvent" guys, and yes I agree neither the Dallas situation or the donations made to the HCZ project, and other 2 organizations have anything to do with one another.

Also, not trying to rub it in your face, but your friend was right, the 2/7/11 show at MSG was awesome, and hopefully Prince does a string of shows in other cities in the U.S, so other fans can get a chance to see him perform.biggrin

Not really. The thing is, because Prince was the special guest and people bought a ticket when they found that out, it's no surprise that some who did come out for the Event, were upset because they found out at the last minute that the show was cancelled, but you can't deny that the people handling the event should have informed their customers that the show was going to be cancelled, based on low ticket sales and other issues that could not be ironed out in time for a show to take place.

But I don't want to make this thread about the Dallas situation, especially when there's about 2 threads on it already, and the main topic of this thread, regarding the 1.5 million donated to the 3 charities mentioned in the first post of this thread, deserves recognition on this thread that the topic is about.

It makes sense that he would start this tour in New York and honor local charities there, because it is called "Welcome 2 America" and so many people came to this country through New York. So I think it is a very nice thing for him to have done. It sounds like there may already be plans to take the tour to California. If so, I hope it is a success there and that he is able to do things for local charitable organizations in California as he has done in New York.

I do hope you get your refund and the chance to experience what we did here in NY. I have a good feeling this tour will expand to other cities.
