Okay so we somewhat agree on some things here, and thanks for sharing that info. My point was that often I hear or read so much misinformation about Black Americans, and what some think they are suppose to look like, when in fact, there really isn't one "specific" look. They can be very, fair-skinned to dark-complected, with various facial features, and come from various cultures/sub-cultures.
I am also aware that there has been race-mixing in Africa since ancient times, so when I speak of Africans from Africa today, living in America, my point was that they, as well as Black Americans (native to the U.S.) also have various, facial features, and often times, that is based on their specific ethnic group. I can actually tell someone who is from Ethiopia compared to someone from the Congo. I have a family member who has a child from a woman who was born in what is now referred to as the Congo, and left there when she was 4 years old with her family who moved to the U.S. years ago. People often forget about the Black Caribbeans and they too, have various ethnic groups among them.
Like you said, if you would like to discuss this further, you're welcome to orgnote me or start a different thread in P&R since it is race-related.

I agree Cam. He was in the NYC/NJ area since December performing, and only now the media paid that much attention to that particular concert, and the one on 1/18 when that gossip girl chic was onstage, and what was so important about giving her media attention? I've never even heard of her before then.
Then when Kim ot on stage with him, the same thing. You would think she actually madde some major and important contribution to society, yet I couldn't find the same amount of coverage on the money he donated to those 3 organizations. I guess Kim is the new Paris Hilton to the media.

There's nothing "nasty" about Reggie because of his darker complexion and many women find him "special", at least Kim did. Maybe you just have a taste for a lighter shade of chocolate. I'm sure Prince has relatives Reggie's complexion. They're just two brothas of a different shade, that's all. [Edited 2/10/11 8:27am]

lol Prince was alway very fair complexioned. I'm that color in the Spring & Summer and lighter in the Fall & Winter. Prince was probably in the sun a bit when he took this pic.
no, its a misconception the being Vegitarian will cause your skin to lighten. But having iron deficent anemia can make your skin pale, and you are suseptible to getting anemia if you dont keep an eye on your iron intake, which vegitarians have to deal with.
thats all I mean this is Prince from the same time and he's as light as the host. And they didn't use much make up then or would have definately used a wrong tone on him and Prince probably would have looked darker if they did...like on Lena Horn

Power 2 the People sista!!!
I know Italians Greeks Asians and Native-Americans the same color lol
Prince didn't go from dark to light, and we don't even have to address a persons racist remarks by identifying skin tones, If Prince was the same color in that photo as he was on the Lovesexy album it's still ok

Not trying to be funny but besides his genes the climate/area that he is from has alot to do with his color I'm originally from Michigan and my mother/family is the same compexion as Prince My complexion was light also, but when I moved to the Southwest I got darker Just saying that climate has alot to do with it

Most definitely it's okay.

Wow we all must have different taste. Reggie is fine as hell and Prince was always a cutie to me.

Yes it does.
There are some people it doesn't matter though. Some 'white' people tan easy and others 'burn' get red.
I work with 2 people 1 Italian the other for French heritage on both sides (NY state) in the winter time they still hold a tan coloring. In the summer time they are seriously the same color of that darker scan of the Prince album.
My god-brother is biracial 1/2white1/2black and he now lives in Tenessee(military) and he just doesn't tan. I can show you pictures of him from year around and he's the same color.
For me I can get a nice tan, and then go to a lighter color in the Fall/Winter. But the only parts that tan of course are the exposed parts. When I take my shirt off my arms/forearms are reddishbrown and my upper arm and chest area are yellow lol

On top of that, who the hell needs to go to the freaking jungle to catch a fever to love a Black man regardless of his shade? Just being wrapped up in the arms of one that treats you good, is fine with me. Just sayin' [Edited 2/10/11 9:18am]

Just shows the diversity in our heritage, Actually, in the Summer I have the same issue my hands, arms and legs usually tan, but when I take off my clothes my skin tone is still very light giving that two/toned effect Dammitt! the stuff we go thru But like I was saying it's cold as hell in Minnesota and Michigan and those northern states and it does have alot to do with complexion. Just as a sidebar, when my son was born he was so light he looked white the nurses were like is this your baby When people come to my house and see his baby pic they can't believe it's him He has grown into a nice caramel complexion now some Old ladies dream

yeah that's always the interesting stuff when dealing with people of obvious mix ancestry
a guy I know, who by visuals is dark skinned married a biracial:1/2 whiteblack woman they had 1 daughter who when born was very brown very smooth coloring and within a few years she was maybe 2 shades darker than her white/pink colored mother

I was gonna make a comment but then I saw this last pic ^^^ and forgot what I was gonna type.
I'm not a fan of Kim or Reggie. He likes what he likes and I honestly don't find him all that attractive, he looks like a regular Black man, that I see every day.
Everyone has physical preferences and they shouldn't be knocked for that. It's when you decided you're NOT gonna "date" (for lack of a better word here) someone or a group of people based on stereotypes of what you THINK they are like.
**distracted by the zebra print bulge again**
Um...
Oh yeah. As far as Prince's skin, let's keep in mind lighting, which folks seem to forget about. Not every photograph has the same quality or is lit the same. Also, P wears makeup which can also slightly alfer skintone. I doubt it has anything to do with his diet.
And Shelby's outfits are hits and misses. I have no problems with her bald head, many Black women sport that style and I admire them for it cause it sure takes balls in this day and age where every Black woman is sporting a weave down to their asses.
All I know is that her boots on Monday night were rocking and they HAD to have been custom made, I'm thinking by the same person/people who make Prince's boots. She ain't no small girl (neither am I, so I'm not trying to be offensive, it's just a fact), and she was stomping and jumping in those boots like they were sneakers. I want me a pair. Shoot. The upper part of the ensemble I coulda done w/o, it kinda looked like she wrapped herself with a bedsheet. And honestly, I don't remember what the other two were wearing, Shelby is honestly the only one I notice.
I feel like they kinda pick out their own outfits... but then again John Blackwell had on one of those Chinese pajama looking things with the matching hat and I don't know ANYONE who would PURPOSELY pick that to wear on stage.
[Edited 2/10/11 9:13am] Prince esta muerto...

prince is black.. end of story Black people /WHITE ppl and eventhing in between come in different shades
i seen a dark fullblooded white person and ive seen a light as fullblooded black person who is much lighter than prince
i wish people would quit this race breakdown it only gets worst the more we break it apart the more we are heading down ethnic -racism in a couple years it wont be all kosher when people start hating you because ur white person from the north europe or black person from north africa and soon c-section babies vs natural birth babies to --Gattaca now ... that would be a pretty picture

I was wondering how this thread spiraled out of control like this over skin color.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
LOL you made me laugh
Yes lighting affects people differently. But Prince was always very fair complexioned. He's probably not in the sun as much as he probably was in his younger years. But you can see in early pics around the same time as the album that make up or not he's very light, cause you can see his whole body for the most part and they don't put make up all on his legs and stomach and what not
but I always wonder does Shelby have some kind of condition or something because her head looks really huge. Was she always bald and just wore the hat scarves on her head to cover it up?
