Anyway, family and friends view my enthusiasm for Prince with puzzled looks. I don't push too hard, but if a person gives me an opening, I know what music to pull out to convert them, or at least make them respect him. I'm breaking them down, one by one.

Edited to say that I see in your profile that you live in Columbus (nice area). That's about 2 hours away from here. It's soooo hard to meet other Prince fans from the Cleveland area. I see tons of people at Prince concerts when he does a show here, but I don't know if many of them are on the org. They probably are; I just never thought to ask them.

A good friend of mine (who also lives in the Cleveland suburbs) and I have gone to Prince concerts. It's a lot of fun to have someone to hang out with who likes Prince. Most people I know either love him or hate him; there seems to be no inbetween.

I'm SO excited to "meet" another Ohioan on the org! Just yesterday I posted in the "Fan gatherings" forum asking who is from Ohio. There is only one response from a person just north of Dayton -- so now for sure there are 3 of us. I feel the same way you do -- there's always a ton of cool ppl who go to the Ohio P concerts, but it seems like they only come out when there is a concert. I would love to find more of us and maybe we can organize a happy hour somewhere between Cleveland / Columbus and all meet.

They all know I adore his music.. besides I am to old to care what they think.

My friends and family don't understand why I've been a fan for so long (since I was a teenager in the late 70s). Prince, of course, is my all-time favorite musician.

I was at a Christmas party last week, and asked the host to play some Prince -- he looked at me like I had lost my mind. Most of the people I meet emphasize that they think Prince is "not very masculine".

The bottom line is I don't care what they say. I have always loved Prince's music and will continue listening

And I guess they like him a bit more...I got almost all Prince related Christmas stuff (only thing not Prince related was MJ's new cd!)- ONA book (finally!), Purple Lavender body was set, Purple Tee that says "where's my Prince?", 20Ten cd(another copy), Prince poster, purple manicure set, and funky outfit that "Prince would definately dress you in." I love it! They totally indulge me lately!!

My family has been...tolerant of my musical tastes. They like the music and so everything is peaceful on the homefront.

As far as Prince goes...mama says she don't trust a man who has his business hangin' out the way Prince does. Apparently, that was her first memory of Prince when she first immigrated to North America. Prince in realllly tight pants.

I live in Northern KY just across the river from Cincinnati...its good to see there is some Prince fans in O-HI-O!! Its been way too long since Prince has come to Cincy....my family thinks I am nuts and most of my close friends like "the Hits".....my daughter likes all kinds of music but I cannot even get her to appreciate that most of the music she likes was influenced by him in the first place....my son when he was little I would get him to point to the computer and say Prince is funky but now he has been converted by his sister....LOL!! I do have my very best friend in the world that shares my Prince obsession and we have gone on many roadtrips together including the nite we met Prince...

Don't I know U??? I think we met at the last year of Prince fest in 2001 my friend Eric was the DJ??

I am the biggest Prince fan in my family. My cousins think I'm foolish for getting giddy when I listen to his music and/or talk about him. My mother likes Prince (a 5 on a scale to ten) but she lost cool points when she backed out of going to the concert in December. Coming in behind me is my 17 year old son for being the biggest Prince fan. When I exposed him to Prince he liked him just a little bit (throughout his childhood), but over the past year he has really delved into who Prince is as a musician and he REALLY looks up to him. Even took up playing the guitar because of Prince:-D My brother went in my mom's place to the concert and he steadily complained that he didn't want to be there to see Prince in no butt out pants. He was trying to dampen my spirit but I didn't let him steal my joy! By the conclusion of the show he smiled and said, "That little man can play that guitar." That won him cool points and a ride home because he was about to be left in New Jersey.

As far as concerts, I've been to one so far (Dec.15th at Izod) and I surprised my kids and took them. That was my first Prince concert but it is NOT my last! I will be at MSG on January 18th, GOD willing!

... not to start an argument but, a lot of people who 'label' themselves typically 'label' other things. I see Prince as being off-center and going against the grain and yeah, back in the day when I was an admirer or his art I thought he was Homosexual but, not now. did you past on prince to your kids? I don't have kids...and if I did I would not introduce them to a guy like Prince as I feel he is a bad example to children. Well I've been lurking on this forum for months now...I discovered it by accident. I just became a member here a few days ago. I've always liked Prince, but I wasn't a die hard fan of his until NOW! I've been exposed to his music ever since I was little though. One of my old guy friends was OBSESSED w/ Prince (I'm not sure if he still is since we've lost contact) and I didn't get his obsession w/ Prince. Also, one of my ex's I think was a Prince fan. I remember a few yrs. ago he was going to go to the video store to rent Purple Rain so we could watch it, but we never got to it. I think my uncle is a fan of Prince too. When my mom and I were on our way to the 12/29 MSG concert, he called and told us to tell Prince to give him a call!!! (He's crazy...<3 him though.) My brother likes nothing but rap music, so Prince is out w/ him. My mom is a casual fan. I took her to the Dec. 29th show and she enjoyed it...not sure if she's any bigger of a fan of his now since she's seen him in concert already.

I am the only one in my family that is a true fan.

I have taken several family members to concerts.

Musicology tour. I took my son age 12 at the time to Dallas show, my wife,Dad, and stepmom to San Antonio., My brother to the Houston show. When he did another show in Dallas, I took my mom.

I went to Xenophobia with my wife, who tolerates Prince, but gets sick of me playing his music so much. She actually left early the night he took us to see "Minority report" and missed that cool experience.

I am always trying to show people how amazing he is.

I ask them who they like first, usually whoever they like really likes Prince or they think that Prince is a Genius. (Examples like Ozzy, Robert Plant, Eric Clapton, No Doubt, Sheryl Crow, Blackeyed Peas, and almost all serious musicians. )

I truly believe his combination of talents as a musician, songwriter, performer, band leader are simply better than anyone who has ever lived.

I have had a couple of friends that were really into him in the past.

I haven't had anyone else, really in the last ten years that I talk about him or his music with.

I live in Round Rock, Texas and I don't think I know anyone that has a Prince album.

Except for copies of Musicology that I gave away. I had about 10 of those.
