yesterday i was listening to some 'related artists' tracks. mostly from the late 80s

and the early 90s.

most of them are peppered with some nice cloud guitar licks and riffs or a small

solo here and there.

so then i listened to some of his own album tracks from the time and realised he

hasn't used that distinct cloud sound in ages.

i mean the kind of playing he did on "cream".

i love that sound.

he's used the cloud in concert during the One Nite Alone tour for a few songs, if

i remember correct. but it didn't sound the way it did in the early 90s.

so beyond this being a plea to bring back the cloud on some new songs, do you

have any examples of associated artist songs that feature great cloud guitar?

I think the cloud was used on Sugar Walls, love that solo.

i love the clouds,and blue angel. i even got tattoo of one..and the white cloud as a keychain. what a gorgeous guitar.

The Cloud is arguably the coolest personalized, custom guitar ever made. I don't know why he doesn't just have a few made with locking tremolos and ditch those ironing board lookin' Strats. The Hohner is great, but the sustain is non-existent. Purple Rain needs sustain.

I agree with Squirrel; the fenders take away from his look considerably. The clouds and even the symbols are stylish enough to match his look and mode of dress. The fenders look like a guitar you can get at Sam Ash and Guitar World nothing special at all. He can bring back the One Eyed warwick bass and Model C too while he's at it.

what about the symbol ones? where'd they go?

Is it my impression or the Cloud body is too thin, like a SG, and that would make it harder to install a Floyd Rose?

Anyway, Prince´s having lots of fun with the Fenders, but I really miss the Cloud. Love it.

I've been waiting for him to bring back the Cloud for years! And it should come back in Purple!

also Purple Rain was recorded with his Hohner. (as far as I know it is the same one he has had for 30 years and the one he used in the recently discussed Purple Rain concert clip.)

i think once we see him hold the cloud again his transfrormation into the P of old will be complete. BTW , don't you think his use of the Fender sends out a great message i.e. buy an off the shelf guitar, practice like mad and you might gte as good as me?.

Yes there was. I can't remember what the video was though. Andre was playing it. Sonny T also is playing a cloud bass in the My Name Is Prince video.

Is this about looks or about the sound quality of the guitars (or basses)? I don't care what kind of guitar or bass he uses, as long as it sounds good!

I actually like Fender guitars (I own two Strats). To me, they have a distinctive sound (clean or distorted) and one of the most copied body shapes for other guitar companies.

Yes, you can get a Strat off the shelf at Sam Ash and other music stores (but not at Guitar World, because it's a magazine: www.guitarworld.com)

Has anyone noticed that the customized Strat from the Tonight Show is set up like the Cloud and Symbol guitars with a bridge humbucker and neck single coil pickups, but the Strat has Floyd Rose tremolo:

I like the red Strat from the Target commercial, too (and it's another customized one like from the Tonight Show):

i suppose it's hard to have anything against his use of the strat when you watch

clips like the "guitar" performance at leno. i remember watching that when it was

posted on lotusflower. wow.

shame we never got to see the entire "dreamer" video, if there ever was one,

because it looks very cool from that snippet.

and Prince's strat sound is nothing less then amazing.

Prince's whole career was also built on the image/visuals

He's a rock star so in most cases what he wore wasn't weird lol

Prince can't be a normal regular guy

and when he had the normal regular guitar he danced around in bikini briefs

He did have a cloud guitar until 1984 his career started in 1977/78

And for the purpose of putting on a show, nothing wrong with nostalgia

Prince was using the cloud guitar up until ONA which is in the 2000's 2003? just 7 years ago
