I wonder if they have not all broke or otherwise stopped working and it was too costly to keep them working? I am sure the guts for his Horhner are much easier to buy if needed than what may be custom guts of the cloud.

not true. i agree that the strat sounds amazing, but the cloud has a very

distinct, different sound.

i'm not saying i want him to exclusively and only play the cloud but it'd

be cool if he brought it back for some new tunes and to play in in concert

on the songs that were originally recorded with the cloud guitar.

in recent years he's been using a lot of his old instruments on record so

the cloud would be a logical next step.

I was never a big fan of the tone of the cloud. I guess he used it as his "rock" guitar and the tele is more of the funk guitar, and I know it's also about what effects he uses, but the tele sounds better to me than the Strat, Cloud, Symbol combined

The Tele has a unique look, too, with the leopard skin print, despite basically being a knockoff

I doubt that, guitar electronics are pretty interchangeable. The bodies, on the other hand...

i'd love to see him whip out his cloud guitar again.. just for fun & nostalgia. i'm certain he would make it sound good whatever was going down. i was watching a clip from lovesexy tour & thinking how small these cloud guitars must be.

I wholeheartedly agree, man.

Clouds had killer tone. His playing on them tended to be, at turns, frantic and pretty. I wonder whether the necks' scale affected his feel on them. He hasn't sounded, tone- or scale-wise, like he did during the Cloud era in many, many years.

It's a great look. But I always thought the Telecaster sounded the best, for both rhythm and lead.

- Correct me if I am wrong, but I rarely saw him playing cloud, symbol or even his Strats for (clean funky) rhythm. Always wondered why...

Maybe it's because cloud have different rock sound not suitable for funk guitar.

From what I understand this purple cloud guitar was comissioned by Prince but I don't think I've seen any photos with him using it. The letter had the year 1999 on it so maybe he might had planned on using it for the Rave 2000 show but for some reason he used the Rave blue cloud instead but thats just a total guess on my part. I have always thought it could have been the one he was holding on the cover of Guitar Player because the cloud in that photo the cloud looked blue and purple so I'm not 100% sure. Like most of you I think I've seen just about every cloud photo out there but I have yet to see him holding this or any other purple one. This may be like the infamous orange cloud that was said to be made for his Superbowl performance but was never used. Well....if this cloud was his or not it is a very beautiful and well made cloud and it's out there somewhere!

There was a letter attached from Paisley Park Studios that read.......

Enclosed per our agreement is a Purple Cloud guitar....the guitar has been used by Prince in rehearsals and photo shoot in Minneapolis. We have packed the instrument securely for a safe journey to you. We trust it will be happy in it's new home, and appreciate our exclusive arrangements with you.
