Cheers, databank!

Although we should consider how many albums were at no.1 and so on, because no.1 should count more than the other 9 top ten inclusions... but it would be very difficult mathematically to do that.

You guys are absolutely right about it, but i couldn't find the time nor the courage to get into this ;-b

Besides, i'm waaaaaaaay to busy these days working on this: https://sites.google.com/...iscog/home cool

Diamonds and pearls, The Truth, Old friends 4 sale and One Nite Alone are ranked too low. Musicology, Emancipation, 3121 and the Symbol too high.

So to this day, we have:

I have to admit that i'm a bit surprised to see Controversy and Dirty Mind being so popular because they're "pre-stardom", but still they got many votes.

Good point, but I think its because these albums contained so many of the ingredients that would eventually make him a star. Controversy in particular sounds a lot like an earlier more immature version of 1999 (And pobably funkier too), whereas Dirty Mind is a favourite as its the first in which he displays his highly original style and indidviduality, despite the songwriting, sexy lyrics and dress to kill looks, fans love Dirty Mind because it sounded like absolutely no one else when it came out. It just so was entirely Prince and so revolutionary when it came out. No one would dream of putting a song like Sister on album aimed at the general public and at the same time the liberating sound of Uptown and the firm Partyup were also two highly intelligent statements that proved he was more than just some sex crazed pervert. These songs contrast heavily with the teenage humpa humpa and crass hedonism of the rest of the record and proved he had an agenda as well. Controversy he takes it further, by putting Annie Christian with the superb Do Me Baby and the tight funkiness of Controversy itself. Not as good as DM, that album showed us he was on his way, and the next release would prove that, the brilliant 1999. I think they love too was the idea that both albums didn't really take off until the 1999/Purple Rain period where many new fans got into his back catalogue and discovered these albums. But at the time of their release, they were huge in underground and punk musical circles.

***

THE NEXT 10:

11) 3121 (21)

Definite proof that of all his recent albums, 3121 was the closest he came back to his old form, although not a classic album like Purple Rain, Sign or 1999, it had some classic moments and some excellent numbers, also the vibe of the album and the fact there was some assured songwriting there. This is definitely the best of a mediocre decade. Most importantly 3121 showed he was having fun again and not just churning out albums.

It is to be noted that each and every "Prince" studio album received at least one vote except for the 2nd disc of Ultimate, The Slaughterhouse, The Chocolate Invasion and Mplsound (even though some people might have included it and Elixer in their vote when they voted for Lotuslow3r).

The more I think about it, the more perplexed I am by the lack of MPLSoUND showing up on lists, particularly when some many people were voicing their opinions of liking it better than LF itself on prior lists.
