Interesting. How come, if I may ask? I mean, I like that album too, but that certain Prince spark wasn't present on there yet as much as it was on Controversy or 1999, for instance... It's a cute little album.

She/He just tries to be different, I mean, he prefers Apollonia 6 over SOTT!! falloff

Apollonia 6 is a brilliantly quirky album. If I had included non-official Prince albums too that one would have been in there. Maybe not above SOTT, but nevertheless I do understand its appeal fully!

Hmmm, not sure how to answer, I just like that album, and the whole pre-PR period in general. smile

Crazy You, Baby, In Love, My Love Is Forever, I'm Yours, the singles - these are all great tracks IMO.

(I have found an old thread similar to this, but it is inactive)

So, fellas. Beating a dead horse? Maybe. But why not once again look at each other's lists and think to oneself "hmm.. I might give that one another spin, if it really is in the top 3 of so many people!"?

So, in a particular order, tell me your top ten Prince albums.

I'll start:

1) The Gold Experience

2) 1999

3) Parade

4) Purple Rain

5) Emancipation

6) Dirty Mind

7) Musicology

8) Lovesexy

9) Sign "O" The Times

10) Crystal Ball

I am bias sp Purple Rain is 1st and always will be .

2. 1999

3. Diamonds and Pearls

4. Sign O the Times

5. Gold Xxxperience

6. Prince

7. Controversy

8. Dirty Mind

9. Musicology

10 .Emancipation

All of these albums were artistic as well as influencial . I was rather young when his masterpieces were released but I will never 4get the Dbl shot of Purple with 1999/Purple Rain era .

I think that, as an album, it's really interesting and strong. It would easily make my Top 20. It's just that the songs alone are not as strong as on TGE, for instance, where they still have a certain cohesion. But the feeling and sound of 20Ten is really top notch, in my opinion.

It has that "shock of the new" aura, in a couple of years many fans of the album will somehow forget it, but I accept that 20Ten sounds and feels like the best he has done since M/3121 ... I predict that it will be appreciated like other B / 3 stars albums of the man: Come, Batman, Emancipation, Lotus, etc.

It would be OK if someone said "Hey I don't like TGE but I accept that it's full of good songs, it has an energetic rock production and overall it's his best album of the 90s" but the line "for the life of me I can not understand what people hear in "The Gold Experience" just screams "subjectivity"...

me neither, but then people like prince at different stages of their lives, and the first album of prince they hear/love influences what they like after that. It's interesting!
