It would be OK if someone said "Hey I don't like TGE but I accept that it's full of good songs, it has an energetic rock production and overall it's his best album of the 90s" but the line "for the life of me I can not understand what people hear in "The Gold Experience" just screams "subjectivity"...

nod

eek you are still here?

at night when nobody else is posting, I sometimes go to site discussion or associated artist, but yes it's rare for me to end up here! Back where I started in 2003 mushy arguing about out of tune vocals on Baby I'm a Star touched

Naw, there is a very vocal little group here on the org that play up that album, but I think you will be surprised if you played it to people not in on the joke, I guarantee you they wont get it.

Someone mentioned subjectivity, I agree, its all subjective. Some are so musically insulated here on the org that opinions tend to to meld together, the strangeness and the smell you once found offensive suddenly disappears, and one tends to to behave like a member of a cult, and just like in a cult, just because it is accepted here by a small cult, doesn't mean you won't get the strange looks from the outside world.

I think it nice that people like "The Gold Experience", but i don't think any people outside the hardcore org cult ever will.

Same with "The Rainbow Children"

I have a friend outside of the org that like Prince BECAUSE of that album eyepop and he is the one that gave me the CD, and I love it mr.green (not because of HIM or anything, if he were HOT, then I could see where it might, but I like it on it's OWN merit! nutty )

Cool smile

But how does someone not into Prince, come across a relatively obscure record like TRC?

Anyway, its just my opinion, no biggie.

B/C it's a great ablum with some real great songs, almost every song is awesome!

I can't figure out why Parade makes anyone's list? confused

Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol

After all these years these have neither become dated or lost their luster, still sound as innovative and original as anything we hope to hear any time soon. The last three ARE Prince albums in every way but name. And it would be a shame not to list them because they are far superior than later Prince labeled works.

1) Sign "O" The Times

2) Purple Rain

3) 1999

4) Parade

5) Controversy

6) Dirty Mind

7) Around The World In A Day

8) The Time

9) Madhouse 6

10) Jill Jones

It's simply because TRC is a brilliant Jazz/Funk/Fusion album, and a really big surprise to people who are into Jazz and didn't know Prince was able to pull that off, too. I know a person who got into Prince because of that record! It's simply about the music, and the music on TRC is absolutely great and inspired.

And about TGE: I know a person who didn't really listen to Prince; he is a producer and a sound engineer, usually arranges the music for records and all that... When he listened to TGE, he said he had never heard a production as brilliant as that, with so many polished details in the background, but for it all to still sound so powerful and "live".

It's not always simply about "getting" albums, having been there and having felt it first-hand. TGE TRC have so much to offer, simply musically, that you don't have to understand Prince and where he was at that time to cherish the fact that the synth melody in P Control is absolutely wicked and still sounds so commercial, that the court-room scene in I Hate U includes one of the best arranging works ever done in modern pop-music, that the guitar solos on TRC (song) are very creative and that the harmony progression in the middle section of Last December is brilliant, too.

^ you are maybe right JoeT., I was so happy to witness Lovesexy back then, the album, the videos, the tour, much better than what has been released by Prince since 1995 - maybe it's nostalgia, but Lovesexy is such an important record to me... 10 / 10.

Lovesexy is my top 5 easily. I just love all about it even the nude cover lol cool

the cover is easily the only thing I truly admire/respect of that album... even if I would have preferred a "nude" pic of Sheila or Cat neutral lol
