Would 20Ten Be Viewed Differently if it Were Released in the 80's?

I wonder how Prince fans would react to this cd if it had been released back in the 80's, perhaps in '85 instead of the album ARTWIAD. Do you think it would have fit in, with the exception of "Laydown"? Put yourself in the frame of mind you were in back then and ask if you would have thought it was incredible or not. If Prince and a record company promoted it like they used to. Prince making videos like he used to with some of these songs. I think some of the songs would have made cool videos, like Lavaux; Compassion; Future Soul Song and Sticky Like Glue. smile Seeing Prince being woken up on a plane in the early morning would be funny! What do you think?

I'd think "what the hell happened to Prince"?

Why is he writing pretty songs w/ the POV of a mature, rich, boring, pious 50 somethig year old?

As it is, it's interesting in its retro-ness, the mature international celebrity reinvestigating early 80's sounds w/ 2010 themes.

It's missing all the energy, fun, and passion of ATWIAD. Also, hooks? Also, doubts?

For those of us who didn't love it, the issue wasn't the release date.

I'll say it again, I really like 20ten. Now, if Wendy and Lisa had been on it too, I would probably LOVE it. I miss their voices and textures in Prince's music. Best album since Lovesexy.

I'm just saying...

No, he means the way they turned Parade into something interesting and good. They were given strict instructions on Planet Earth to only add the parts they did and no other input was welcome.

Honestly if it had 'Irresistable Bitch' or 'Erotic City' on it, they wouldn't really stand out like sore thumbs. Musically, it captures the essence, minus the immature, attention-seeking lyrics of back then.

That's as much credit as i can give. I LIKE 20Ten a great deal.

I've got my tin helmet on, ducking and covering as i type.smile

You do, actually. But go ahead, keep trolling. So much for the truce. Your word is not your bond.

Listen back to it closely. I never agreed to a truce. I don't know where you got that idea. You proposed it, but I said if you kept doing what you're doing, then so would I.

btw, if you're going to do another one of those podcasts and call out people by name, at least alert them before hand, coward.

troll, actually what you said was you were going to patrol my spelling. I just couldn't care less at this point. Cowardly would have been not taking your bitchy phone call or hanging up on you. Now stop hijacking the thread.

I could give a damn about your spelling as long as you're not policing others on it. It's your personality that needs patrolling. To quote you from earlier in the thread, " You're welcome. It's a free service I provide. razz"

Bit of an inslut to compare a classic like ATWIAD to 20Ten.........Unlike say Chaos and Disorder which if it fell from the sky and fell on the floor from an un named artist......people would rave bout it......while 20ten would go down as average at the very best........so sad that wheneer he chhoses to release an album free he gives so many people cack.........both albums predecessors(lotus and 3121) were far superior and would have gone down loads better with the general public....................both albums (planet earth and 20Ten) have been a massive wasted opportunity to get recognised by potentially so many new fans and old ones that think he ha completelty lost his touch......which he so hasnt but those albums dont show this

Well, I wasn't really comparing the two albums. I was merely putting it in that era because I've heard many people say that he made this album which sounds a lot like the 80's. Take your pic of which album. With the exception of the raunchy lyrics, I wonder how it would have held up if he and a record company had promoted it with videos, etc. That's all.

There are things that I like about 20Ten, there are things I dislike, but that is with most cd's of anyone's music.

To borrow a phrase from Prince himself... Why should I do that when I can do this? Freedom to start a new thread is a wonderful thing, even if it is similar to another thread. The button says "Start Thread"... not "don't repeat another thread"... but thanks anyway... You would make a really good police officer. wink

He gave away planet earth for free in england. After releasing planet earth he announced he was playing 7 nights at the O2. All 140,000 tickets sold out in 20 minutes, he ended up playing 21 sold out nights which turned out the be the highest grossing concert stop of 2007, generating $22 million in revenue.

I'd say planet earth was very well received by the people he gave it away to.
