the first thing he should do: give the album a better sound, more dynamic, more power....like most of his 80's albums...

20Ten sounds older than Purple Rain!(thank God 4 the Loudness-filter Nero offers when U wanna burn your own cd's)

BUT...this album sure has some great songs, good music and 4 those who complain that he

sounds nothing like today's music: when hair-metal and heavenly produced synth-funk

were in the charts, he released Parade and SOTT....he has always been different.

(There were times I was a bit dissapointed that Jesse's album made me dance more that Prince's wink)

I think the main complain about 20Ten is because it sounds very retro, and fans are used to Prince being adventurous and genius. But some songs are cool.

Bit of an inslut to compare a classic like ATWIAD to 20Ten.........Unlike say Chaos and Disorder which if it fell from the sky and fell on the floor from an un named artist......people would rave bout it......while 20ten would go down as average at the very best........so sad that wheneer he chhoses to release an album free he gives so many people cack.........both albums predecessors(lotus and 3121) were far superior and would have gone down loads better with the general public....................both albums (planet earth and 20Ten) have been a massive wasted opportunity to get recognised by potentially so many new fans and old ones that think he ha completelty lost his touch......which he so hasnt but those albums dont show this

He gave away planet earth for free in england. After releasing planet earth he announced he was playing 7 nights at the O2. All 140,000 tickets sold out in 20 minutes, he ended up playing 21 sold out nights which turned out the be the highest grossing concert stop of 2007, generating $22 million in revenue.

I'd say planet earth was very well received by the people he gave it away to.

[Edited 8/31/10 11:05am]

He sold 21 nights out coz of his reputation as a live performer nothing to do with the drivel bar 2 tracks that is Planet Earth

If this were released circa '96 nevermind '86 it wouldn't have sounded as dated as it does now.

This album is years too late IMHO and for a self-proclaimed trendsetter ("I don't follow trends... they just follow me"), I found it rather flacid.

As For Planet Earth, it's only saving grace is "Chelsea Rodgers" and maybe S.H.O.E at gunpoint.

Im sure he played 17 nights at wemble areana on the nude tour................plus this time he was bound to sell out 21 nights as this was the only place to see him in the whole of europe therefore that was his encatchment area...............im sure if he done the same thing on the diamonds and pearls tour or any tour he would have repeated it if not surpasssed it at the height of his popularity..................think about it if madonna said the only place to see her live this year was the o2 how many dates would she sell????

Does anyone agree that on each cd there is at least one song that U like? Is it truly possible for a Prince fan to say that an entire album sucks? I've been a fan for a long, long time and there are albums from the past that have songs that I can't click "next" fast enough. 20Ten is a let down in some ways to me because I play music, and there's not much to play along to with my guitars. With that being said, I think that I like to hear some of it while driving or relaxing.

Walmart has been selling Prince's older cd's for $5.00 each. I was able to get copies of cd's I lost or just disappeared. razz

I think being a true fan means you can also be honest about someone you like. Okay, because you really like them you will try hard to even like their weaker material and find some good, but just like anything else in life, you have to know when to say when - or 20Ten!

I wonder how Prince fans would react to this cd if it had been released back in the 80's, perhaps in '85 instead of the album ARTWIAD. Do you think it would have fit in, with the exception of "Laydown"? Put yourself in the frame of mind you were in back then and ask if you would have thought it was incredible or not. If Prince and a record company promoted it like they used to. Prince making videos like he used to with some of these songs. I think some of the songs would have made cool videos, like Lavaux; Compassion; Future Soul Song and Sticky Like Glue. smile Seeing Prince being woken up on a plane in the early morning would be funny! What do you think?

Interesting ... I ran across a 'Dirty Mind' performance on Facebook yesturday that was posted on Daily Motion and if we're talking about around that era for 20Ten to be released I do not think it would have the same effect. The Linn Drum is HOT (sounding). The lyrical content of the album is not as RAW as Controversy, Dirty Mind or 1999, that's the only difference.

Peace ... & Stay Funky ...

I'm starting to wonder if the problem is not so much the music but the lyrical content. Am I wrong in this? I didn't care too much for the cursing, but I did like his sexual, sensual songs. Some of the things that he is saying today is more for himself than what other people may relate to. That's just me, though... not all of us can travel to Lavaux, lol.. but picturing it in my mind is pretty cool.

I don't know if he is trying to push his message about spirituality or just writing some generic sounding songs. Don't get me wrong, I love much of 20Ten, but I can see where some fans might not like it at all. I just wish that he made videos, and not just performance videos. I did like Somewhere Here on Earth because it told a story. Hmmmm.. I'm thinking too much on this.

If anyone would like to see a recent lyric I wrote, check it out here... I have over ten thousand written.

Hey, instead of writing shit-talking, personally offensive, libelous posts about someone and their personal life off of Prince.org, you could take your shit somewhere else. If you were half as good at the search function as you were mining Ernest's life for facts to put on blast here on Prince.org then maybe you would post worthwhile shit.

In addition to that, you shouldn't take your own personal life out on others. It's no one on Prince.org's fault that your life took a sad turn. Get a therapist and move on.

Actually, I will take the advice of some of these folks on here who dislike me for taking up for myself. This is my last post, have a wonderful life and try to find love for yourselves. The continued bitching and complaining about everything anyone does here is just too ridiculous. I would have expected much better from Prince fans, but none of you have learned anything. You spend many hours on here, looking for fights, looking to show your supremacy, and to show your ignorance. Have a nice life and U will never see me again because I do have a life. Goodbye.

Aw. that sucks. bye.

(psst...or you could just ignore the people you don't like. because, you know, it's an annonymous forum, right? so, you know, you don't actually have to pay attention. i mean we're talking about prince here, this isn't exactly high stakes poker am i right or am i right?)

I think 20Ten is just fine where it is. It represents the man Prince is today and I love it!! If this had came out in the 80s, people would NOT have liked it!! It wasn't him back then. Or I don't know, maybe people would have still loved it since it came from him. But for me, it's perfect where it is! smile

Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol

You mean, the way they turned Planet Earth into something interesting and good? Hah

They had nothing to do with Planet Earth. He sent them a track or 2 and asked them to add something.

Compared to PR ATWIAD PARADE DR/SOTT where they actually hung out in a studio, drove around, played instruments at Prince's home studio etc etc

No, he means the way they turned Parade into something interesting and good. They were given strict instructions on Planet Earth to only add the parts they did and no other input was welcome.

20TEN was released in the 80's. you had to purchase a tabloid to get it. soo 80's.

then, as the trick of time so kindly allows, it was transported into the future onto the net.

You thought the title "Future Soul Song" was just clever wordplay?

He knew, back in 1986, that it would take 24 years for the music to travel to us.
