On a serious note, I, myself am somewhat shy. I have been in several bands with VERY limited amounts of success/popularity through the past 20 years. Combine the "success/popularity" with just a BIT of shyness, and well... I can imagine how difficult it would be for Prince to deal with people he doesn't know. Everybody wanting SOMETHING from the man, whether it's an autograph, picutre, or just a word or handshake, it gets tiring and alarming. As humans, we need and crave contact with others. For somebody with Prince's celebrity status, it must be TRULY hard to suss out who is sincere and who is not, hence his very limited circle of close relationships. Everybody wants to be liked for WHO THEY TRULY ARE, not just the public persona they project. I assume he is only close to those he TRULY knows, and who truly know him. All that being said, yes, I do believe he is shy. The shy ones are usually the ones who shine the most onstage, where they can be whoever they want to be for the time they are performing. Offstage is a different story, private time (as it were), private life, private relationships. Just my two cents.
