Every once in a while P will release a song that people say it coulda been on an album for children (take a wild guess at the last song he's released that has drawn these comments). If you could make an album with at least 9 tracks of the songs he's released so far, what would they be? And not songs just based on the fact that they don't have swearing. I mean kiddy pop-ish, catchy hooks and/or lyrics that aren't too deep or preaching about the truth and being free and uploading and downloading.

2) Happy Feet

3) Willing & Able

4) Paisley Park (some lyrics might be too deep for kids since it talks about politics and taxes but the rest of the elements are there)

5) We Gets Up

6) Everybody Loves Me

7) The Most Beautiful Girl

8) Starfish & Coffee

9) Baby I'm A Star

10) Wherever U Go, Whatever U Do

11) Graffiti Bridge

Depends on what kind of kid you're trying to raise. IMO, bring the funk to a young kid and he is better equipped to deal with the world. Let's remember that absolving a child of adult themes only proves to set them back in life. I've got nieces and nephews that range from like 4-18. If I were to make a mixtape that I would share with them, it'd be:

2) The One You Wanna See

3) The Work

4) Crimson and Clover

5) The Same December

6) Dolphin

7) Ripopgodzippa

8) Days of Wild

9) Billy Jack Bitch

10) Disco Jellyfish

Edit to say: There are themes in the playlist I presented that are not specifically kid-friendly themes (read: "The Work", "Ripop", "Days of Wild", "BJB"). I don't think attempting to shield kids from swear words or adult themes (barring pornography and explicit violence) is prudent given they find it out about the age of 8.

Interesting that you mention this now, as I've just done exactly that - last week in fact!

My twin nieces are only 18mths old, but they love to dance. Their parents are both musicians (predominantly jazz, but love all types), so I made a CD that I thought the whole family could enjoy.

It's got (very few) mild adult themes, but I mainly wanted fun, uplifting tracks that have a good energy about them.

I agree that it's not very helpful to shield kids from everything (I have a 5yo God-daughter who sings along to Eminem), but I like that there's good funky music with positive themes out there that I can introduce to kids - even as toddlers - to get a head start on whatever they're yet to be exposed to.

In any case, when I played the CD, Niece A was dancing around everywhere, having a great time. Niece B sat quietly until it was finished, after which she pushed one of her toys that played nursery rhymes and started bopping to the little midi player inside.

Good points. I agree that sheltering kids from adult themes doesn't help as they get more in to the real world. I should've clarified it better. I was asking in the sense of if you were putting together a tracklist for an album that was going to be sold to the public to show that the one time Rude Boy also has a family friendly side.

Days Of Wild is awesome but a parent shopping for a light hearted dance cd to play at little Billy's birthday party isn't gonna think so. And she's going to have a lot of explaining to do when the other kids parents come to pick them up and lil Sally is singing "I can tear shit up, mom, cuz that's my style. These are the Days Of Wild...now hit me!"
