How come there aren't a lot of movies with Prince's music score I'm not talking about Prince's old songs used for movies. How come Prince didn't become a composer of movie music? Imagine a score that sounds simular to Godfather, Once upon a time in America,Ennio Morricone like scores. I know Prince can't be compared to the great Ennio but lot of rock composers supplied music scores for the movies, and some of them are very well known in that field like Dennny Elfman. Prince always looked like the guy who will outgrow his music make it very complex but instead he is reapiting himself. Do you think Prince lacks that kind of ambitions or the directors of the movies don't call Prince to comose music ?

I used to think there was a knack before the Revolution got disbanded.
Today, I think there's a really basic reason Wendy & Lisa still produce cinematic, broadly structured music that fits screen action really well while Prince seems less likely to produce something similar without Clare Fischer lending his considerable talents.
But, I'd love Prince to prove me wrong there.

I think Prince's ego would get in the way of doing something like this.
the music composer's job is to support the director's vision...

this part sums up my thinking:
“I was coming from a band that had sold millions of records, so I assumed that I’d get work quickly,” he explains. ”I learned that the band cachet gets you a little respect in your first interview, but it doesn’t guarantee work. And when you do get work, you have to put your ego aside. You have to get used to people saying, ’No, that’s not right,’ which you may not have ever heard in a band. My bands have built careers out of doing things on their own terms, but you certainly don’t build a career in film composing that way.”

being a composer is more like being a supporting/side musician... you're there to make someone else look good. may be a big reason wendy/lisa have been successful at it.
sure, eventually you can get acclaim like the john williams, elfmans etc... but for the most part people don't go to a movie because a specific composer is doing the score... [Edited 8/28/10 15:36pm]
