I have heard from a few youngsters that Baz Luhrmann's "Romeo + Juliet" has become a school staple. For a lot of school kids this is the first time they have been impacted by "When Doves Cry" as it plays a pivotal part in one of the most dramatic scenes in the film. For these kids, THIS is the definitive version of WDC. It's fine, every generation needs their own thing. Glee has become a hit and will likewise be a part of this generation for better or worse. There is no fighting the changing of the times. The Beatles have survived having the most covered music catalogs of all time and I am sure Prince will survive if Glee covered him too.

I think the show is a innocuous platform for his music, as it is a popular program that celebrates music.

HE DID NOT DO A SONG FOR PEPSI.

The Library of Congress lists Prince Rogers Nelson as the sole songwriter of the "Uh-Huh!" song.

Now how about you look up what the Pepsi song is called?

Oh, and there are plenty of Prince tunes that don't feature all the actual writers.

As I understand it.... Prince incorporated the existing jingle into his song. But why the hell would he bother, unless the idea was to submit it to Pepsi for them to use somewhere?

Ever heard of sampling? Sheesh...

Fun Lovin's Criminals' "Scooby Snacks" samples Tarantino movies -- ya think they were planning to submit it to the soundtrack?

You think he would just incorporate a jingle from a soda advert into one of his songs for no reason?

It was an extremely popular jingle. Perhaps he just felt inspired, perhaps he felt that he could ride that wave,...

The remarkably popular jingle "You've Got the Right One, Baby, Uh-Huh" was devised without much planning. BBDO creative director Alfred Merrin and jingie writer Peter Cofield tinkered with a potential slogan—"the right one"—to suit Charles's blues style of singing. After they added "baby," they were two syllables short. "It could have been 'doo-wop,'" Merrin confessed to Forbes. Instead the team chose "uh-huh," which, according to Merrin, "embodies affirmativeness."

Controversy, Dirty Mind, Head, Le Grind, Do Me Baby, Aut-o-matic, Gotta Stop Messing About, Little Red Corvette, Sex Me Sex Me Not, Rock Hard In A Funky Place, Electric Intercourse

Now that would be a proper Prince episode

Sorry, shows like that are highly dubious. They are profitting off someone else's established body of work & success. Covers of songs are always highly dubious.

Good luck with that...

Why? He did do American Idol, after all.

Oh, his arm was twisted on that one by his label at the time. When he did it, he walked on, performed and walked off....it wasn't something he WANTED to do..trust me. Hell Simon was mad that NO one knew he was going to actually do it until he pulled up in a limo, walked on stage and performed. Prince, respectfully, does not like American Idol, neither do I. Let ppl success on their own, this pre-packaged Pop era has to end for music to grow again.

Pre-marital sex, homosexuals, rock n roll, a strong lesbian character..... Hmmm not sure Larry would approve even if Prince did pluck up the courage to ask him if it was ok.

lol, but that is EXACTLY who Prince & The Revolution was!

...which is something he apologized for not more than 3 months ago too! The Prince of 2010 is not the same as Prince of 1984.

LOL. Perhaps he did this. Perhaps he did that. You don't know any better than I do.

Show me another instance of Prince incorporating a product commercial jingles as the chorus of his song rather than a random vocal sample here and there and maybe your point would have some validity.

You don't definitively know that Pepsi did not at some point approach Prince for a version of the track. I'm saying it seems like it was definitely a possibility. Perhaps even Prince wrote it for them with the idea of pitching it and then decided against it.

Unless you have any further evidence that Pepsi definitely did not approach Prince, or have spoken to Prince to confirm that he definitely did not write it with the idea of pitching it to Pepsi to use, then there is nothing further you can add.

Hell, I've written specific songs with the idea of pitching them to manufacturers of specific products and some of those songs went on to be hits, and I never told anyone that that was my intention.

And I sure as hell wasn't using an actual existing jingle for that product for the song either.

And furthermore, you don't know that the Fun Lovin' Criminals never thought about pitching "Scooby Snacks" for use in one of QT's movies either. Since I know Huey, I could ask him for you though. lol

Hilarious. He's sampled others on pelnty of occasions. According to your logic, that's because he planned to submit those songs to those artists?

Hey, he mentions "Dynasty" in "Kiss". Perhaps he intended that song to be the theme tune for that show?

That is so NOT gonna happen. Prince doesn't even let people put his music on Youtube,Movies or other bands cover his songs. So why would he let this idiot do an entire show using his stuff.

I see no facts anywhere in your post.

Hey, he mentions "Dynasty" in "Kiss". Perhaps he intended that song to be the theme tune for that show?

I asked you to show me an example of a specific occasion where he has SAMPLED A COMMERCIAL JINGLE FOR A PRODUCT.

You have failed to do so, so you know what? You can go drink a nice big cup of SHUT THE FUCK UP.

Once again, talking out of your arse like you always do.

Hilarious. YOU make up shit and then I have to disprove it? How about YOU come up with proof.

I made up nothing. My hypothesis stands to reason and logic. You claim it's wrong, but without providing any substantial evidence as to why.

Oh look, more crap you made up.

Nope. Once again you offered an example you cannot prove. Unless you KNOW FOR A FACT FLC never intended to play their song for Quentin, you can't say shit. And you DON'T know. So once again, you can shut the fuck up with your bullshit.

It's a great idea....which is exactly why Prince WON'T do it lol He doesn't always take advantage of opportunities that could be beneficial to his career.
