Everybody Loves Me Is FUNKY

I'll admit, I used to hate this song, but I gave it a good listen today. That bass is FUNKY! The guitars were nice, and that Linn Drum is fantastic! It's a fun, playful song, and I love it!

Thoughts on the song?

No, it isn't.

If this song was some long lost Vanity 6 outtake (which is what it sounds like), everyone would be praising it as gold!

I think its fantastic, though it does kinda overstay its welcome. What is it, 4 minutes plus? Make it 3 minutes by cutting out the "shake it like u dont know better" stuff and its perfect.

blunt music She has robes and she has monkeys, lazy diamond studded flunkies.... music blunt

For me, it is the most horrible thing Prince has attepmted.

Cringeworthy to put it mildly.

I removed the track from my player after first listen and even if I gave 20Ten a few more spins (SANS this turd), it's been a good while since I'm definitely finished with the album so I don't even remember what ELM sounded like.

So I feel I'm lucky!!!

i think its funky...it's his way of telling non-musicians or music critics who diss him for being unique to fuck off lol in a musical kind of way...

...it can also be a self-help, self-motivating song for people with low self-esteem

cool

it's beyond the music, but intention also

biggrin

No More Candy 4 U found the perfect balance between being quirky and silly but still managing to be musically pleasing.

Everybody Loves Me is going for the same thing, but failing on almost every front. It just sounds fucking lame.

i HATED it upon first listen, now i kinda like it. its cheesy as hell, but intentionally so, its like a self-deprecating musical satire of sorts. kinda Gnarls Barkley-esque to me. its NOT Jughead like ppl are making it out to be

It's a fun pop ditty, just like the rest album. It's hard to get through without a goofy, slightly embaressed smile.

Artistically it's the strongest track conceptually on the album. No kidding. All the other tracks are retreads of normal Prince agenda.

The sitcom retro 70' sing along nonsense song's closest cousin is "Ronnie Talk to Russia", but this one manages to go lyrically in concept to a self referential mockery while still retaining the mass church revival hippy theme of the opening track.

And it is meant to "bug". Just listen to the buzz effect on the vocals. Like a taunt.

It's very cool. He is in total creative control of himself. I love it when he doesn't try to pander to ANYONE, like in this case.

I think it's very true that Prince likes to musically slap his audience.

Nah, "Laydown" was...just lacked a longer version lol

This one it does bring back the Dirty Mind/Controversy mind set musically (like "No More Candy" did on MPLSound).

I still think it'll fit a Sesame Street theme lol I don't even think Prince takes the track seriously. It's a carefree track. I still don't like it but it's not as ingrating as it was on initial listens.

I think Laydown is the worst song on the album from a creative viewpoint, because it's just derivative of some kind of lil wayne vibe. As a matter of fact, I know I've heard a song from a young rap/rocker that sounds just like that melody and pace. It's like Prince just made up a conformist song on a dare. The whole vibe of the songs like the part where he shouts "Get up" just seems like him acting like a younger mainstream artist to me.

I do like listening to the song, but it's nothing I would really look at closely to figure out any artistic concept from. It's just an obvious pop song done in a current pop style.
