I thought I was the only who didnt like Purple Rain. Probably my least favorite song on that record. I tried to like it, but it just isnt happening for me and I concur with the reason you stated.. There is no "song requirement" to be a fan. Not everyone likes the same things.

Prince's career spans 32 years and includes 100s of songs. People became fans at different points- people with different backgrounds, tastes and preferences.

That's just the way it is.

I agree. I don't come here very often either, but we can't dictate what a fan will like or dislike. There are hundreds of songs - Prince or otherwise - that I love, and others can't stand them. And vice versa. Think of some of the factors that go into enjoying a song: how we relate to it, association with a time or event in your life, how it makes you feel, the mood you're in when you first hear it. It's arbitrary. It's art.

Many times I'll go to an art museum with my best friend. He's studies art and relates to it very differently from me. I look at it and many times see a bunch of colors splattered on a canvass. Not to mention, I like primal invoking colors and deep strokes, while he seems to like more intellectual art.

The one thing that drives me insane are the so-called fans who dog him for a song they don't like, call him narrow minded, call him names, etc etc. He has created so many amazing songs and live shows that I could never call him a name or personally attack him. Even moreso, I've met him, but I don't know him personally. We all make mistakes and Prince has made his, but has never hurt me in any way, so I can't justify putting him down as a person.

To me,"Mountains" sounds like Prince trying to sound like the Bee Gees I think it's an okay song but it never should have been a single.

I looovvveeee It. Play in the sunshine is shit until you hear it live. I agree with Bree8016, the same with the Cross.

I never dug Purple Rain, Little Red Corvette, Sister, Future Soul, and Dolphin

I like Adore, but don't think it's anywhere near his best. Same with 7.

I think the Black Album is pretty dire all the way through, been a few years since I heard it though.

Housequake makes me cringe, but I doubt it's all that loved anyway.

In terms of singles those are the ones I don't really like:

1) Delirious: I usually skip this one. It sounds to me as a 50's rock 'n' roll song with a Prince production. Tried to like it but I really can't

2) Let's Go Crazy: I don't skip this one but I can't say I like it. I think it almost sounds as a bad version of 'Take Me With U' (which I love)

3) Purple Rain: I mentioned it before. The weird thing is that the only two songs from 'Purple Rain' I don't like were among Prince's biggest hits ever

4) Batdance: I get its appeal but I think it sounds horribly dated now

5) New Power Generation: Prince's first new-jack song was an epic fail.

6) Cream: I used to love this one, it bores me the past few years. Most of 'Diamonds And Pearls' bores me to be honest

7) Diamonds And Pearls: aaargh, never liked it never will (yes I skip it)

8) Gold: sounds like a children's programme TV jingle

9) Somebody's Somebody: I know that many people love it but I think it is under average

10) Guitar: this is wrong on so many levels. Prince trying to do a hard rock track, to me it sounds as a Roxette album track

11) Chocolate Box:Sorry but it is boring

from the songs other people mentioned I agree (don't like) the following:

It feels so bland. I think he could have done so much more with this track. He could have spiced up the drums, added a few more instruments.
