Somebody who actually knew what they were talking about answered this once. I think it was Eric Leeds. The answer then was no. But he probably could if he decided to learn and practice. Gotta practice those instruments a lot.

Wasn't the sax the only instrument that he actually had formal lessons on as a child?

i was hanging out with a pal of mine about ten years ago, and he put on a LP with prince playing Pop Life on a penny whistle. from what i remember prince was giggling here and there through out it and sounded like he was on helium! so i guess a penny whistle counts as a wind instrument right?

Remember this picture?

Being a perfectionist, I don't think he'll be open about playing a sax untill he masters the instrument.

Australian singer Jenny Morris who was his support act during some of the shows on the 1990 Nude Tour once stated in an interview that during performances of one of her songs Prince would be behind the stage curtain backing her on saxophone. I can't remember any more details as 20 years have passed since I read the article in a magazine.

as someone who plays a few instruments I think that once you know the basic placement of where to put ur fingers, all instruments (apart from drums which I cannot play) are more or less generic or at the least similar

If P can play guitar & piano, he can probably play almost anything...except the digeridoo

neutral

Ridiculous. In my youth, I played clarinet, piano and guitar. There is absolutely no similarity in terms of "where you put your fingers" with instruments across classifications (ie, wind, percussion, string).

A pianist could play organ or harpsichord. A clarinetist might be able to play sax. A guitarist could play mandolin. But to think a sax player could automatically play piano because both instruments are played with the fingers is silly.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

You honesty... er... fails.

And I would expect from someone who 'kicks ass on a 6 string' to record with his guitar perfectly tuned...

Wouldn't an electronic tuner work? I think your playing is good (not as concise and dramatically effective as Prince's guitar solos, plus he made up that solo... after hearing the Journey song lol) but I did think I was hearing a few off key notes or points. Was that the guitar tuning problem?

Not so much a problem as a preference. I find for my syle of playing often enough, i will have trouble tuning the guitar properly, Im self taught and cant read music.. many tutorials on tuning offer little help. They often describe the method of tuning, which helps very little if the musician is having trouble comparing the tones and determining if the string is sharp, flat, or in tune.

Like I said though, it comes down to preference, but mostly I choose either the low E or the high E strings (strings 1 and 6, the highest and lowest). I've found that classical guitarists seem to more commonly use the high E, while electric players tend to more often use the low E. For now, I use whatever is easiest for me to tune properly (or half properly) confused

My Dad is a musician (pianist)..He can tune his piano by ear and tune my guitar via his piano. But I hate 2 bug him every time I need a tune. The electronic ones are not always acurate neutral

Not bragging but I can do anything Prince can on a lead guitar or bass and would totally take him out on keyboards.. I am a better musician than Prince however I accept that he is a better poet/businessman than me.

I think you are a pro musician (would you want to record tracks as part of a song?) but Prince also made up his guitar parts (often live or in rehearsals)! I think that qualitfies him as a genius musician.
