The Best CD since Warner Brothers?

I think it's unfair to call an album the best since "Sign," "Lovesexy," etc. etc.

But focusing ONLY on Prince's "free" stage of his career.

So, you got "Emancipation," "Rave," etc. etc.

I'd say "20Ten" is DEFINITELY his best since WB.

Y'all???

N.E.W.S was the worst.

Emancipation was his best since WB.

Double-nod

I'd go with TRC, but Lotusflow3r was the strongest since that.

For me probably 3121...Musicology saw him almost 100% back on track for the first time since WB but 3121 went a step further to recapturing almost all of the feel his albums had when there was some quality control/outside perspective.

Certain tracks from NPGMC exceed this (High, My Medallion, Supercute, Underneath The Cream etc) but it's not really an album and, as they say, fling enough shit and some will stick

i think planet earth is highly under-rated here @ the org.

after re-visiting it 2day, i respect and dig it that much more.

the title track itself is one of Prince's best songs ever. remember

when some ppl used 2 try & crit him for his venture in2 jazz...well,

those same ppl must acknowledge that he has mastered this genre.

man, i respect Prince more and more as I listen to his music...he is

simply getting better & better beyond the notion of time

I'd say Planet Earth.

Perhaps if he had stuck to Warner Brothers he would still get radioplay.

I have to agree with the original thread - this is the best album. I think 3121 is pretty close and will always be dear to me after i saw him twice at 21 nights at the o2. Wish the album had a common theme - something to tie it all together but still very strong.

Not really sure about the whole Emancipation thought as disc 2 was awful aprt from Holy river.

ps - I know that planet earth was the album at the time but he was still hot on that album at the time - what ever the album kicks ass

Disc two of Emancipation was awful? It's probably my least favourite of the three but for me the high points are still better than most of what came after. I think that "Sex In The Summer," "One Kiss At A Time," "Joint 2 Joint," "The Holy River," "Let's Have A Baby," "Saviour" and "Friend, Lover, Sister, Mother/Wife" all compare favourably to anything he released from 1997-2010.

ok - so i missed a couple out. Still - like everything in this site it proves differnt songs appeal to different people - I would would much rather ahve a conversation with someone wh loves prince then one qho can not name a p track from the last 10 years - I am afraid there are quite a fwe of these. Joint to joint is pretty good I admit. The rest just feels wierd after the whole Mayte thing.

Fair enough but you could say the same thing about any of Prince's "romantic" songs. He's got plenty of songs that pledge his love and devotion but he sure seems to swing from vine to vine.

I actually really like most of his music circa 2004-2010 but for me Emancipation is just a little bit better.

The Rainbow Children, The Vault, Lotus Flow3r (yes, I love the "live band sounding" Prince)
