Gheezus dude, dial it back a notch or three. You're not here to judge other people's tastes, level of fandom or degree of talent. Just agree to disagree.

Music is classic when you can hear it 20 years later and still feel like you did the first time you heard it. THAT is what makes great music great. It's timeless. Lovesexy is one of those albums. That's why people still listen to it over 20 years after its release. Because it was good music then and it is now. So if Prince released Lovesexy now? Yeah, people would still love it. It's also not nearly as preachy and segregational as TRC was, too.

When Prince starts hyping an unreleased album as "controversial", then you know it's already in desperate need of a shot of promotion. He knows he's already done something that isn't going to make people think, but rather react just how he wanted. That's a lame approach.

Lovesexy was Prince with a huge set of balls. He put stuff out and didn't need to act or react. His was butt ass naked on the cover (not the first time however), and he let it go out "as is".

TRC is Prince with a huge yellow pad, and a laundry list of things wrong with everyone else, including Jews, women, and any other non-JW person.

The guy that made Lovesexy would kick the guy's ass who made TRC, and laugh while doing it.

Every album between 1978 and 1989 are his best albums. He was still setting trends to that point, not following them. It's when he went head long into rap in 1990-1992 that his music suffered. However, the mid 90's had the holy trilogy of Come, Exodus, Gold. So the best since SOTT, after the 80's stuff? I'd say prince, Exodus and Gold are big contenders. Nothing has ever quite matched up to that. Although 20Ten is his best since he went all Jehovah's Witness in 2000.

Exactly. I never considered "Sign O The Times" to be the almighty basis to compare his work to since it was already after he changed his style after "Purple Rain" and started sounded more retro of the 1960s and 1970s. It's an absolute great album but it still ain't the "Old Prince" so I don't consider it his very best album of all time.

But since "Sign O The Times" is the album mentioned in this thread, I'd say my favorite album since then would be either "Lovesexy" which I thought was better than "Sign O The Times" or "Batman" which felt like a return of the Old Prince sounding like the modern era of the times (this was pre shit hop of course) instead of the newer Prince at the time who was apparently listening to a lot of music from his youth at the time which would have been the 1960s and 1970s and being influenced by it.

My favorite after the 1990s arrived? That's a hard one but it would probably be "Come" or the "Symbol" album.

The Rainbow Children

It's a good, dark, moody album. I actually compiled remixes from the album, in the same play list order, and it's still just as good.

Very bloody easily, if you are gay and Jewish (But not practicing) like myself, all this Mr Pearlman and Goldtsruck shit. I am assuming you are a fundamentalist Christian and straight no doubt. I also hate the Rainbow Children as the music lacks almost any form of melody, song writing is crap and the matter on it is very subjective. If you look, you will see fans are divided over that album, with a lot of the gay and less religious ones generally hating it. I hate this album as it portrays Prince as a shallow minded bigot who can't move beyond medieval dogma of an extremist hate cult.: -o

If Prince was to release Lovesexy today in 2010 ....... critics on Prince.org would kill him !lol

Lovesexy is a brilliant, mind trip, great melody, songwriting (Annastesia, When 2 R in love) and the general vibe you get out if it. Hes being a Christian here too, but its much more inclusive and fun, TRC is moody by comparison.

I've always liked the former... wink on the latter, it took me a moment to digest it (so to speak) but I think it's a great album to listen to form beginning to end.

Not agreeing that SOTT was the best, but since I would say Lovesexy. Leaving out Batman, I would consider anything released 1990-1996 a close call. I noticed a lot of people seem to disregard D&P and o(+> because of the rapping, but there are still plenty of good songs imo on both.
