B A D Prince song?!

On my Facebook today, someone posted a pic of them wearing a 1999:The New Master t-shirt. I then started thinking about what is your list of HORRIBLE Prince songs.

PLEASE DON'T MAKE THIS A BAD THREAD! JUST POST UR OPINIONS.

For me:

1999: The New Master

Purple and Gold

Three Chains O' Gold

Wedding Feast (even though I love the album)

If I had to pick my least favorite Prince song ever, it would have to be Dead On It. I love TBA but this song just never did anything for me at all.

^Agree about "3 Chains O' Gold". It was the black man's "Bohemian Rhapsody" in a lot of ways. There are huge similarities in the two songs.

There's almost always a stinker on an album that I feel like skipping past. Overall, most of the 1978-1989 stuff I can take full on, even if I don't care for one much over the other. It's the later stuff where the list gets big.

Here's some random ones that come to mind.

Sex In My Bones

Sex Me Sex Me Not

Golden Parachute

My Medallion

Northside

Silicon

Pretty much anything from The Rainbow Children

Life Can Be So Nice

Graffiti Bridge (song, not album)

Jughead

Arrogance

Shy

Supercute

Props and Pounds

1999: The New Master

Cause And Effect

This is sad, but I actually enjoy a lot of the songs that are being listed..whenever I hear wedding feast, it always brightens my day. smile
3 chains o gold is also a masterpiece..it's very beautifully arranged, but maybe only good musicians can appreciate that..and 1999: the new master is a genius album..there is something new with every song..it's just like a bunch of remixes..and I love Doug e fresh's rap, rosarios track, and just the lovely sounds that prince, Larry, and Chaka make..especially on the accapella track..the only songs that I don't enjoy are the ones with explicit lyrics or just stupid songs like purple and gold but a lot of his songs that people don't like are deeper than just singing along in your car or humming while going for a walk. I learn new things everyday from songs that I've known for a decade. He is an experience for sure.
What is your main problem?
To whom it may concern: I love you!
Humankind..be both.

I thought "Sex In My Bones" was the Funky Baldheads?

I too like the Rave album over all. What annoys me about it is the lost potential for radio play, poor lead single, lazy video releases, and utter loss of interest in the project. When he played Rave songs on the Rave PPV special, it's almost like he was doing it because he had to, not because he wanted to, in some cases.

And when you edit Larry Graham's chant out of "everyday is a winding road", well...it's even better.

There are only a few songs I would say are BAD. I usually find something wonderful in nearly everything the man touches.(I'm talking to those of you whose Chaos And Disorder album has no marks or scuffs on it, due to only being played once, but verbally trashed a thousand times.) (And maybe I'm talking to Bart Van Halen, who seems to be lurking forever on a site with an artist that he can't stand, but can't stay away from this site....but to make a point, I do not like much of what Bruce Springsteen has done since about 1987, and I don't waste hours and hours on his fan sites complaining about it like Mr Van Halen does.)

Jughead #1 hands down. The "Mister Money Minder" speech at the end seals the deal for the worst Prince track ever. I had just hit my 20's back then, and it sounds as lame in my old age as it did back then. Tony M poisoned Prince's sound at the time. Not to mention the Star Trek uniforms Tony, Damon, and Kirk Johnson were wearing onstage!

#2...1999: The New Mistake....wow, some things should just be left alone. When Prince was talking about re-recording his entire output of albums, I was afraid of him bringing Tony M back to rap on Purple Rain, or maybe get Yoko Ono to sing on Diamonds And Pearls. Good Thing Prince got bored with the re-recording idea.

#3, but probably just as deserving to be #1...Wedding Feast: If I have to explain why, you simply have not heard it.

There are very few 'bad' ones, but there are a lot of songs that I dislike regardless of the craftsmanship used in them.

For example, we can all agree that Jughead is a bad song. But there are songs like Diamonds & Pearls which others may love, but I can't even listen to the first few chords.

Likewise, I dislike songs from SOTT like "Slow Love" and "It's gonna b a beautiful night".

But I wouldn't rank those songs as 'bad' so much as I just don't like them all that much. The number of songs I dislike has steadily increased since 2000 though, so there may be some correlation, but I won't go that far and say that there is.

"I Like Funky Music" may be his worst "song". I wouldn't classify "Wedding Feast" as a song, it's more of a segue... that said, all of the Exodus segues are terrible.

For me, and this is just me, the worst ones would be:

Positivity

Around the World in a Day

New Position

Most of Diamonds and Pearls (the album)

Graffiti Bridge (the song)

It

The Human Body (all-time least favourite ever)

And there are one or two tracks from "1999" which I am honestly petrified of saying I dislike :/

I know I'm "supposed" to like some of those, but I just really cannot.

Seeing "My Name is Prince," on some posts here is a little odd. The song itself is pretty good. Once Tony M starts rapping about "Manure," it takes a big fall. I can't recall anyone rapping the word "Manure," before or since. Hmm... Tony M...is it Mosley or Manure? Having Tony M in the band at all would be like George Lucas casting Danny Devito to play Luke Skywalker in the original Star Wars.

Something else to consider: Songs that at first listen didn't really hit you, but you later got:

Life Can Be So Nice: As a teenager, I just didn't get all the songs at first. This one took until around 1990 or so. The reason I was able to open my mind? I always give Prince songs extra chances I would not give songs by other artists.

Positivity: This is a really different song. It will likely never be in my top 5 on Lovesexy, but it is not the weak song I thought it was. There's some great music, and yes, it is repetitive in spots.

Dance On: Very funky, but it took awhile to sink in. It's a good song, and Lovesexy is so amazing, that it is still in the bottom 3 of tracks on that Cd for me.

It's Gonna Be a Beautiful Night: Just kidding. I still don't really like it...but... It's not a bad song, but on SOTT it sticks out like Pee Wee Herman on the cover of "Pumping Iron" Magazine. What really makes "Night," such a low moment for me is its length. Imagine getting "Old Friends 4 Sale," "Witness," and "In A Large Room With No Light," instead? Or "Crystal Ball," if it has to be a long song....I could write for hours about SOTT..so I will stop now.

That's why I edited that MFer out of all those D&P and prince tracks. I even edited all the 12" versions of MNIP and Sexy MF and took him out. Believe me, much better albums without him.
