I don't feel I'm ripping off Prince. Most of the times if I go to find torrents, it is because i want to know the album is worth buying. I simply like too much music to buy everything on a "try it and see" basis. These days too with the focus on singles it is so hard to know if a cd is a hit with a lot of padding or a true "album". My music collecting started in about '84 and Purple Rain was my first. In the 80s Prince was one of the many who made me appreciate the value of an album. I had the 45's first, but then you get the album and it had the long versions. To a giddy 8-year-old kid that's a big deal. "oooh it's longer than on the radio!".

But it seems to me in the 90s for every "Odelay", "Dookie", "Downward Spiral" or "My Life", there was handful of albums that didn't deserve to be one.

I still try to buy physical cds because I dont want the format to disappear. I want to support the artists. However, I need to know if I'm going to blindly buy your album that it's worth my time. While they all had some great tracks, I felt really ripped off by Planet Earth. He gave it away for free. That means he values it at *free*. But then if I wanted to be honest I'd wait and get it at Target for $10. When I then saw that $10 (on sale) was not hardly any different than the free version, with no liner notes to speak of.. not even song titles! I got mad. Ooooh Rob mad. Rob reeeeal mad!

In my opinion it was one of the least satisfying albums he'd made this decade. And I despise paying a large amount when it's in fall-apart digipack packaging. If you're gonna do that charge me what it costs to buy an elaborate greeting card, cuz that's what it is.

So add the bitter taste of seeing Prince make shady business decisions against his fans, starting back at Crystal Ball, when I felt ripped off that I paid way more than the store cost, and had to call several times and wait months after it was in the stores to get mine.

I watched how people paid $77 for virtually nothing of feasible value on the Lotusflow3r site. I didn't sign up. Good decision.. I almost did though. After crying that people are stealing from him, not making good on what he hyped his site to be, and a hearing about some of his recent alleged anti-gay stuff (yes - alleged.. but he did not make strains to say "I would never and I am sorry if it was taken that way..let me explain what I meant"). I had sworn off buying anything else from him.

Somewhere in the last few months I softened up. But then Prince goes shouting "The internet is dead". I'm thinking "if the internet was dead.. noone would be talking about you anymore. Noone would want to get your new cd because we wouldnt know about it. I was intrigued now to find it just to say "wow.. all over this?? another substandard album?". And then I saw someone from the UK was selling the cd for literally the cost of the paper and shipping.

Then I heard 20Ten. Wasnt hard to find at all online and it spread fast. But I was not prepared to like it this much. But at no time did I feel guilty for downloading. It was valued at *free*.

Now I have my physical copy and have since deleted the mp3 copy. As always I'd much rather prefer a physical cd. If he puts it out in a jewel case, or just makes the package worth the $10-18. I will buy it.. probably out of my OCD completist attitude toward cd collecting. But also out of respect that I feel this album is worth it. I do want to reward Prince and say "good job on the music.. here's the money and it was worth it". Not like Planet earth where like a bad meal I wanna say "It was undercooked and cold and tasted funny. I want my money back".

NOPE!

A stupid man’s report of what a clever man says can never be accurate, because he unconciously translates what he hears into something he can understand.

Eye for an eye...

Prince doesn't feel bad ripping me off, I don't feel bad ripping him off.
Old argument same answer.
