Here's what the future will be................

In the future....Prince will for example,,,distribute three different CD's in many different publications. Therefore, if you want the CD with the best songs....you'll gladly buy all 3 magazines before anyone else can download the files online. Prince gets his advance...you get all the music.

Here's what the future will be.........

Prince will have a hissy fit at some technicality he overlooked in a print deal (i.e. he realised too late he could've got more money for something), and will declare scagazines an old and dead medium.

I have been helping to line Prine's pockets since 1985, i have spent a small fortune on buying his music, concert tickets, whatever.

I am not saying he is owe me anything, but when the wee shite refuses to release a decent live cd or some unreleased songs, and i can download them for free, then that's what i am gonna do, and will continue to do.

So the simple answer to the question is no, i do not feel guilty at all.

Prince doesn't care because he already been paid in full and doesn't lose anything by gabby copies on line. 1 illegal copy or a million illegal copies it doesn't dent the Prince purse.

Hell yes!

Hell no!

Whatchoo talkin' about Willis?!

Amen. Shit, I have bought several of his records several times! Come to think of it, I bought the Batman album (as just one example), first on cassette, then on vinyl, then on CD several years later, all new from the store. I paid to be in the npgmusic club. I paid for concert tickets. I bought a goddamned 30 dollar t shirt. When 20ten is released I'll definitely buy it. To me though, a shitty copy of the mp3 on a computer is akin to being able to hear it on the radio. Just not the same as owning the album. I myself am a fan of vinyl. I love having nice artwork to look at, etc. A quality package. If I buy something, I expect to own something, dig? And I will buy when the album is released stateside, like I said. In the meantime, here's me playing the record for my friends and promoting his work for him on the street level, strictly out of love. Half my friends had no idea Prince had a new record being released and half of them are now all excited to go buy the thing when it's released. So do I feel bad? HELL NO!! I feel fucking great, and I feel like I'm taking an active part in helping promote Prince and his work.

lol I agree with both. I've promoted Prince to many people who didn't know he has a new cd out. I can listen to it all the way through. Lots of good songs. I'll buy the cd.

The only stuff I download without paying for is stuff that is not available for purchase. Personally I prefer owning physical copies of the music I love. If an album is out of print and the only ways of getting are A) Purchase a copy online @ eBay (or similar site) at a bloated price with no money going back to the artist, or B) find a copy for free to download, then who is really ripping off who? Would Prince prefer I pay some nobody a bloated price for an out of print CD without a cent going to him or would Prince prefer a fan never hear some of his greatest works because he is not offering them for purchase?

I believe Trent Reznor has figured out the right balance, giving away the music digitally and offering higher quality and special physical versions for the fans that want more and wish to support the artist. Prince had the right idea with the NPGMusicClub circa 2003-2006. Every album he offered in his store (that I had not previously owned) I purchased, even if the quality was lacking (damn low volume wma files). I am into Prince for the music, not the "experience". He can be pissed off at the internet all he wants, but the internet is not and will never be dead. If he refuses to issue his music digitally, all he is doing is keeping the current generation of youths from discovering him.

When 3121 came out, I purchased the singles before the album came out on both NGPMC & iTunes because I want to support Prince. When he released the demo version of Guitar for $2.99, I purchased it twice because the first time I did not receive my download, I wrote customer service a couple times but never heard back, so even though I had someone forward me a copy, I still paid the $2.99 again to get my legal download from the man himself.

Lotusflow3r.com is something I never understood, for a fan like me, he was charging $77 for 1 song (and a t-shirt for select few). I waited to find out if there was going to be more music available for free (or even purchase) but as we all know, that never happened. So with the failure of Lotusflow3r.com, Prince declared the internet dead because no one wants to pay him ahead of time for the promise of possible music from Prince.

Lol it seems the living dead is all the rage this year.. vampires razz and oh the internet according to Prince lol

Do I feel guilty for ever downloading anything of his?No, I usually go on to own hard copies of most legal things and I am sure half the boots floating about were a middle finger up to WB remember the skips that Prince used to stick outside PP where he'd have a member of the NPG turn up just for the fun of it?

When Prince aknowledges the poor service provided by his LotusFailur3 and that many dedicated fans/fams paid $77 for an album which cost $10 in hard copy plus a t-shirt that we could of made ourselves by ripping the artwork (if you were lucky to get one), then maybe I might feel less peed off by his business practises. mad

Yeah u do feel kinda guilty about stealing his music. But I make sure I get the hard copies of anything (20TEN shipped frm Europe 2 States) before I attempt a download. If I could buy the rarities and possibly-official releases, I would. But we're fans (most of us, anyway), and we wanna enjoy the music for the sake of us being Prince fans. No malace or theif-purpose included, at least 4 me

Yes, at 19, I finally saw the Revolution, a legendary band. And I talked to Wendy!!! biggrin In addition to seeing Prince, I have now lived life. Thank you Purple People!!

Hell no, I don't feel guilty. Actually, I'm glad he released it this way because now I have a way to boycott. I'm tired of him sneaking in shit hop tracks on the albums along with good tracks. In order to get the good tracks, you have to buy the album but when you do, then your money has gone towards the shit hop tracks on the albums also. It kinda makes it hard to boycott a genre that you want to go extinct that way. I'll gladly pay money for music that I like but I'm getting sick of my money also paying for tracks from a genre that I despise.

If it means getting the tracks I like on this album for free, I look at it this way, I deserve them for my money going towards rediculous tracks like "Ol Skool Crappery", "Incense and Candles", "Mr. Goodnight", "Incense and Candles", "Illusion, Coma, Pimp, and Circumstance" or any other tracks that sound like today's current mainstream that he may have slipped in between his good tracks.

I might be wrong, and I usually am on here (lol) but by releasing the new cd here, there and everywhere at different times is kind of asking for people to hunt for it on the internet? People aren't willing to wait if they can get it elsewhere. Is it fair? That is up to the individual that does it. It is not up to me or anyone else on the face of this planet to judge what another person is doing.

As far as when it is released here in the U.S., I believe it may sell... but that's the million dollar question. I know I will buy a copy or two as per my custom. smile

Eh, I think Prince does a very poor job of keeping his music in print so in many cases if fans are illegally downloading his music it is because there is no alternative. I'm not even talking about really old stuff, much of his recent output (1996-2010) is out of print. It seems like an artist of his stature should have a website where all of his post WB music can be bought and downloaded. Sure, there might not be a huge demand for a lot of that music but he could be making a little bit of cash off of it. Prince may want people to believe that WB is an evil corporation but if I want an album from that era it is usually pretty easy to buy it.

Oh, I'm not proud of myself, but, Prince has forced me to look else where to obtain his music. I don't like being this way, but I have no choice. I don't want to abuse Prince by not obtaining his music via a "Prince authorized website", but he has forced me to this current situation. Releasing 20Ten in Europe was a slap to his US fanbase. I had no choice..I had to do it....I just had to have the CD, so I, so I went to a place where I knew I could get the CD. I sent a message to a "friend" who I knew had the 20Ten CD.

Now, I too find myself getting Prince music from less than savory characters. The disdain that I have had in the past has been but a distant memory. These unsavory types have now become my cherished friends via the internet. Maybe, in the distant future, I will be able to make amends for my behavior, but until Prince's music is totally released to all (not just in Europe) beg; I will continue to seek Prince's music whereever possible. I will always download a leak of someone I like, but I ALWAYS buy the real thing, hell a lot of the time I will buy it multiple times (Cd,Vinyl)

I downloaded 21ten online, and ordered a copy from ebay, and as soon as a retail copy becomes available in the US I will buy it.

Guilty? Why?

The same as all that matters to Prince is the money, all that matters to me is the music.

If Prince is not releasing it and it's available somewhere I'll definitely get it. I would buy from 'official outlets' all the outtakes I have if they were available for purchase.

As for the 20Ten album, I grabbed it illegally. Then got a hard copy from the Belgium newspaper AND if a store edition appears (like Planet Earth) I will buy it. AND I DON'T like the album...

So, I can't feel guilty.

I count 6 sites with his whole album...for download.

I don't get how downloaders are ripping him off in this particular instance.

He doesn't get paid for every Daily Mirror sold it's an upfront advance and that's it. There was no opotunity for those international customers to buy the paper on the first day so The Mirror doesn't loose out.

Almost everyone has said if it's released where they live they would buy the copy so I don't see how Prince is loosing even a penny in this case.

Other situations where he was paid on sale yes but here, he can't get no extra pay so how can anybody be doing him out of money

I've been a fan 4 30 years. I have invested a lot of time and money - in cd's, concerts, merchandise etc. : -) so I wouldn't feel I'd be ripping him off. And I bought the Daily Mirror with 2010 anyway.
